View Full Version : When is the best time of year on eBay?

I've got some old stuff that I'd like to sell on eBay. However, I've noticed that at this time of year -- late Summer, right before the school year and Fall college semesters start -- not a lot of stuff that's up for sale is being bid on. My question is, when is the best time of year to sell stuff on eBay? Right before Christmas? Right after Christmas? The middle of the Summer?
Can someone please give me advice on this subject? What time of year is the best time of year to sell stuff on eBay? I want to maximize my profits, after all. :) Thanks for the help!

I have always found the best results on ebay from Oct to Christmas. If I was you I would wait till Oct. I make a killing then

I think it really just sort of depends on what you're selling, and who's looking for that sort of item. I sell year round, and I've never really noticed one particular time of the year as being any better than any other time.

I always thought that eBay was pretty good for selling stuff year-round. Then again, as the others have pointed out, it all depends on the product - and Oct-Christmas is definately the best time to sell. What are you getting rid of, Squall?

Is it OK to list what I'm getting rid of here? Obviously, I'm not trying to sell anything here -- I don't want to break any rules! -- but if simply listing what I plan on selling here (it's a short list) can help people give me advice on when the best time to sell this stuff on eBay is, and I won't get in trouble for saying, then I'd be happy to list what I'm getting rid of. So... is it OK? :)

Hmmm...well how about this. Don't list the prices of what you're selling - that way this won't appear to be an advertisement. Then again, unless these items you're getting rid of are obviously seasonal items, like decorations of some type, then it ultimately doesn't matter what the items are. :)
Earlier, I was wondering the same thing - I didn't know if it was against the rules to make lists of this sort, too. I know we have a special place for that here.

Alright, I got some feedback from my modding cohorts and they agree with me and say that you can post your list. So...go for it!

OK then! Here's a list of the stuff I'm going to sell on eBay... the only question is, "When?"
-a collection of "Maxim" and "Stuff" magazines
-the reissues of Transformers Prowl and Jazz, plus a few tech specs and a collection of Transformers comic books thrown in for good measure
-a NES along with a nice collection of NES games (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, etc.)
-a Super NES along with a nice collection of Super NES games (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger, etc.), as well as an original Game Boy and Super Game Boy (no Game Boy games, though)
Now, obviously, I'm not trying to sell anything here at Toon Zone, so please, don't even PM me and ask. :) That's about it! So, when is the best time of year to sell the following sets of items on eBay? And thanks for the help!

Yeah, most of that stuff should sell fine now. Especially the Transformers stuff - with the big buzz around the TFs recently, and the new show starting up very soon, now is a hot time to be selling anything TF.

Yeah, and regarding your NES and SNES games, try selling them as a lot, and not individually - as a eBay-er myself, I can never resist a good cache of games like that, all up for bids in the same auction. :)
As for the magazines...I dunno. Do magazines sell well on eBay?

With magazines, its really hit or miss. I've managed to sell some of my old Wizard magazines, and I've easily sold various video game magazines. But there are otehrs I've had a hard time selling. Best bet is to stick them up in lots, and hope someone out there is looking for a bunch of the back-issues.

I recently checked on eBay for people currently selling back issue collections of "Maxim" and "Stuff", and it seems like people will only bother to bid on lots of back issues (like 20 or more). Good thing I've got every issue of "Maxim" from #5 to this month's issue (#56)!
It didn't look like anyone was bidding for "Nintendo Power" magazine, and my lot of those aren't very impressive (the back issues I have don't focus on any classic games, for example), so I'm just going to throw them in with the NES collection to sweeten the deal.
I'll just be happy to sell the lots of "Maxim" and "Stuff", and the Transformers as well (the Prowl & Jazz reissues don't seem to have a lot of bidders right now on eBay... why is this?), but I'm hoping I can really cash in on the NES and Super NES collections. :)
I don't want to sell any of this stuff -- but I really need the money! :(
Thanks a bunch, by the way! :) Any other advice you guys can offer?

Use the Buy it Now option when you can. Sometimes when you sell a collection lot you actually have someone willing to pay a lot more money than you thought you would win by just bids.
Later.

Probably because these are still readily available through stores like www.bigbadtoystore.com. Why bid on it at e-bay when you can get it new from a store for the same price or sometimes chearper?

Not trying to change the subject too much, but I wanted to say that I tend to pay attention to auctions with the BUY IT NOW logo next to the title. I love buy it now, I hate waiting til the end of the auction and having to sit at my computer and refresh the page every two minutes to make sure I am not being out bid near the end there. I would say of all the auctions I bid on recently, all of them have been with buy it now. And I plan on posting some stuff up there myself soon, and plan on selling it all with buy it now.
