View Full Version : Where did your name come from... part II!!!

Hey all. I posted this at the old boards but it was pretty close to the switch (plus we've got some new faces around here) so i'll ask it again, to get a larger reaction. Here's what i posted:

I know this has nothing to do w/ anything, but i think some of the screen names we have floating around here are pretty different. So my question is : Why did you choose that screename? Mine comes from Optimal Optimus, in the last season of Beast Wars. I'm not the biggest transformer fan or anything, but Optimus was my fav and i didn't just want to go by "optimus" (Plus, optimal can mean more things than just a character on a cartoon show, if ya catch my drift:)) And besides, coming to a Batman website, i would have only wanted to be called "Batman" and not anything else. But, i figured that would be either taken or have some special meaning (kinda like walking into Buckingham Palace and calling yourself the queen). That's mine, what's yours?

But, since there are new features, i'll include the question to ask the explainations behind avatars and titles. These change more readily than handles, but what the heck?

My avatar's pretty obvious, it's Optimal Optimus. My title is Wayne Warrior because that's my school's team name. Also, Wayne H.S. and Bruce Wayne were both named after the same guy. I saw on some Batman thing that Bob Kane got the name from Mad Anthony Wayne, the famous Indian killer (or something). So that holds a special place in my school spirit, because my school is kinda sorta named after Batman!

So, that's me!

My user name comes from "Calvin and Hobbes". You know how Calvin makes snow sculptures? Well, his greatest, in my opinion, was this....thing... called "Bourgeois Buffoon". When I signed up on the Encyclopedia Histeria Message board (my first board), I needed a unique name....and that popped up into my mind.:) I use it for ANY board (including this) I sign up for.

DerekPowers

well my name is pretty self explainatory. I really like Derek Powers when bb first started. I sort of like the corrupt corprate shark, especially when they run multinational conglomorates. and i always loved the batman villians, and old powers was terry's biggest one, so thats why i chose to be him. ofcourse it crushed me when they killed him off, but what are you going to do? atleast it was a good episode and a cool way to end the waynepowers story arc, i just wish they'd have continued it. oh well.

anyway, as for ruler of gotham city 2049, i put that cause, well, he is. and i choose to think of bb as taking place 50 years into the future, from when the series started in 1999. That was the official # of years into the future according to the first season (see meltdown) and all the promos and stuff from before the series started. Then for some reason they started to say it was 40 years, which i dont understand (see rotj). oh well, i like 50 years. peace.

Here's wot I posted:I don't have any recollection of how I got redDragon besides I liked dragons at the time....red I guess was just some miscellanous color ^^'

Now if you wanted a batman related one: red 'cause of red claw and dragon 'cause of the kryptonite dragon. And then it's all happy!

Okay, no laughing. I work at Food Lion, a grocery store, so there's the "fl". A group of us have dubbed ourselves "FLHeroes", just to joke around and make the job a little more fun. As mentioned before, 311 is one of my favorite bands, so put it all together= flhero311...

Inque
08-14-2001, 02:38 AM
Mine's also obvious. Inque is my favorite villian

And I'm a guy! And I am not gay! So you can stop asking!!! You know who you are!!!!!!!

Excuse me. Just venting. My avatar is from the end of Inqueling, when you know that Inque is alive and watching Deanna.

And while I'm on this subject, I'll tell you all a nice story. Back in the days of the original toonzone boards, I came along. I wanted to have Inque has my username, but it was already taken. I did a little looking around and found out that the person who had already taken the name hadn't posted in more than a year. So I emailed dg asking him to do me a favor and delete the username so that I could take it. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here today!

The person who had already registered hasn't complained about it, so I'm guessing that person has just DISAPPEARED! :D

I may never know who registered that name before I did.....

Calhoun07
08-14-2001, 03:05 AM
When I first got on the computer, I really was into Star Trek at the time and spent time in the Star Trek newsgroups and such and ALOT of people there had Star Trek related names. My original AOL name was Jstonek and some odd number. I hated it. I marvelled at these cool Star Trek names, but the best ones were already taken. But nobody had taken Captain Calhoun's name since that was brand spankin' new. So I got it. After my thirty day trial on AOL, I re signed on as Calhoun07 and the name has stuck ever since. I'd like to say that Daniel Amos' album KALHOUN was also an influence, but the fact I love that band and they have a record with the same name was pure chance.

As for my avatar choices...I am on my Twin Peaks theme right now. Expect more. Special Agent Cooper is my current avatar, thus the Special Agent for my title.

The Mad Hatter
08-14-2001, 09:39 AM
When I came here lo those many years ago, I tried to be Clayface... I've got a minor fascination with shape-shifters. But somebody had already taken that name, so after a bit of thinking I chose the Mad Hatter. I like the way he was depicted in B:TAS... charming and romantic while crazy, and Roddy McDowell had the greatest voice for him. Plus, as an English major, I dug the semi-literary connotations to it as well.

As far as my current avatar... that's Mr. Patch from Banjo-Tooie. He's one of the largest video-game bosses of all time, he has a great voice (all of the Banjo-Kazooie/Banjo-Tooie characters have great voices... for each they take a voice sample or sound effect, then seemingly put it through a scratcher), and he has a ludicrous conversation with the protagonists as he attempts to sound threatening.

"Strange inflatable wobbly thing?" That's also from the game. A lot of Japanese games, especially Zelda, introduce boss characters by flashing their names on the screen along with a brief descriptor below it, such as "Volvagia--Infernal Dragon." Banjo-Tooie makes fun of this, with descriptors such as "Career-Questioning Minion" or "Self-Important Anglerfish." Mr. Patch's--"Strange Wobbly Inflatable Thing"--makes me laugh out loud to this day.

Psycho Fox
08-14-2001, 10:10 AM
Well my name comes from a old Sega game for the SMS that was released in the late 80's called Psycho Fox starting you guessed it Psycho Fox.

Here are the box scans

front (http://www.vgmuseum.com/scans/scans3/psychofox.jpg)

back (http://www.vgmuseum.com/scans/scans3/psychofox-back.jpg)

Now if you look at the front Psycho Fox is the Fox at the bottom and Mad Fox (the bad fox) is the one at the top. Now as for my avatar's that has nothing to do with Psycho Fox but it is a Fox and cute IMHO thus I though it would go well with my name.

Hey, that's what I thought. I love that name! And the comic strip it came from was hilarious!

I picked Failure cuz there was this band called Failure that used to be my favorite. Then they broke up, so I began to lose some interest, they're still one of my favs though. I've just kind of stuck with it, cuz I havent been able to come up with anything cooler.

As for the grub, it was the first word that popped in my head.

"Not that there's anything wrong with that!" :D

My first choice was "Clayface" but as The Mad Hatter points out that was taken. My second choice was "The Mad Hatter"--ahem, also taken. So when I first joined I just used my own name.

My first posts were really long and pompous (and many still are :p ), so I finally figured that a goofy deity like Maxie Zeus would be a good role model. I shifted to that screen name when we changed to the current board.

There's a real shortage of Maxie Zeus images on the web, so I've had to supplement them with classical images of the old Greek god. Don't remember who the artist is on this one, but it's a detail from a larger image of Zeus throwing around thunderbolts.

I like Sniffles the Mouse - check the avatar - and he tends to take a lot of flak for being boring. Since convincing people he's an interesting character is already kind of a lost cause and quixotic, I took the title of don Jaime del Resfriado - Sir James of the Sniffles.

So, Inque, you're a lesbian, right? Any chance you'll go back to the RPGs and help set up some new ones, since you like them?

Another (possibly) interesting local tie-in: isn't his voice used on 107.7's morning radio show? It's one of those deals where they mix a lot of samples together. He says "Good Morning." And, yeah, he is a boring character. Sorry.

Anyway, where my name came from is obvious. I took it cause "Sideshow" is one of my favorite eps. And I think he's a good villian. Tough so it's a good fight, and a jerk so you're glad when he get taken down. Now if I could just forget about "Love's a Croc."

I chose Mostly Harmless right after Douglas Adams died as a tribute. I was thinking about putting "I threw a rock at 'im."

That's easy, Joker is my favorite villian(or comic book character for that matter)of all time! I was born in 1985 so that's where the 85 comes from. And my avatar's are just different pics of mister J that I like. My title is one of Joker's many nicknames.:D

Gpoliceman
08-14-2001, 03:48 PM
I have an original story to tell.

There was once a cool flight sim game called Gpolice for playstation and PC. I LOVED THE GAME and devoted all my time to beating it.

After beating the game and writing down all the passwords to every stage I went back and read online reviews of the game.

All the reviews I read said that the game was SUPER TOUGH to beat and just, basically, way too hard.

So when I found out that I had played and beaten a game that reviewers said was "too tough" I felt proud.

So when I finally got an internet conection I thought of the game and thought I was "the man" at it............

..............thus Gpoliceman.

My first name is Greg. So people might think I'm Gregpoliceman, but that's just not true.

Gpolice is a game and I'm the man at it.

I only use this name on these boards though. Everywhere else I go by other names.

Gpoliceman

DR. BELCH

--because I wanted something different, something I'm sure no one else would have already, and I first used it at the now-defunct Helpful Corn board (Daria) Nov 1, 1997. It reflects my great eructactional talent. I got it from my father, one of the late great after-dinner belchers.
I've posted elsewhere as "Nostradamus" and "The Iconoclast"...but by far this one is the one I like best.

BourgeoisBuffoon

So THAT'S how your name came too be, BELCH! It's one of the more odd user names I have seen in my net life. I had always wondered how it came...

SJJ is just my name. Simple. I started using it in a Lexx IRC chatroom I used to frequent. I then kept it for my Lexx website that occasionally gets an update (Squawker's Guide To Lexx (http://www.brunneng.co.uk) if you must know!)

Oh yeah, SJJ stands for Steve James Jones, although a variant was offered to me in the aforementioned Lexx chatroom. Sexy Jumpin' Junkie had a cool ring to it. However I never do any jumping... ;)

Bird Boy
08-14-2001, 11:01 PM
I thought I made up this name..but it turns out..that I must've read it in comics or somthing before, as Robin is called Bird_Boy alot...and I've only see the Tim Drake Robin called Bird_Boy.

The Boy Plunder is just the title I came up with..cuz I'm no wonder...lol.

The avatars are ever-changing but ALWAYS (cept for one time..and I changed it almost immediatly) have Robin in it. In fact..I believe it's time for a change in title, and avatar soon........:)

My username comes from a book by Andrew M. Greeley, Lord of the Dance. At the end of the book, there is a blessing entitled Avran, which evokes the spirit of the Catholic hymn "Lord of the Dance." I don't know what "avran" actually means, but I liked the spirit of the blessing - and I'm Wiccan, not Catholic!

My avatars have up to this point (I'm still pretty new here) been from Men in Black. My current one is a picture of Agent Jay from Lowell Cunningham's comics. Just in case you were wondering, I'm female. :p

RockItShipper

My current SN's a reference to the "Tracey Sketchit"/"James" pairing from Pokemon.

First story I put up on the web was with these two... I think they're real cute together.

Some other screen names I've used/am using elsewhere on the web... Boba Fett, Anarky, Pickit (my character: an Ewok in the bounty hunter biz), Kojiro, Freako, Mr Green, all the secret ids of the big 7 of the JLA, fanofboth, Weirdo, ioriyaoi, jangosboy (another Fett reference)... Um, it's been a couple of year since I started using the 'net, so I'm sure 1-2 names are missing but whatever...

Well, I got my name from playing way to much GensoSuikoden 2. I was playing GensoSuikoden2 from begining to end and geting all the 108 characters (Yes, I have THAT much time on my hands). So after I was done I came to this board the for the first time and chose this name.

And I just changed my avatar to show Nall from Lunar:EB. It's the game I've been playing alot of lately.

And that's the story of how I saved spring break.:D

Vigo Sprax
08-15-2001, 02:38 AM
My name comes from the Star Wars novel Shadows of the Empire, in which Sprax is one of Prince Xizor's Vigos (aka Lieutenants). Sprax is a large rat type creature. I chose it when I was playing Star Wars RPGs online.

I haven't changed my title...

My avatar is the smoking monkey from Clerks: Uncenosred, Episode 3, as many people know...

And while I'm describing all this, I first heard the quote in my signature in Oliver Stone's JFK...I later tracked down on the internet the actual quote & who said it.

Well, it probably comes as no surprise to learn I love Mr Freeze (damn you Arnie! Double damn you Schumacher...), so the whole Frozen/Bitter Genius/avatar thing is tied up to that.

Here's a question, though. Can I completely change my ID/tag/avatar and still keep my 'posts' total, or do I start from scratch?

I just go by Nightflower because I like it :) It's the name I usually use on the net, and if it's taken, I just use it in another language: Fleur de Nuit, Nachtblume, Yeh mahn Fa (Guess what language that's in!). I've also been called Nocturnal Blossom Extraordinaire, Nightly Blooming Foliage, Nighty, and NF. Even my boyfriend calls me that sometimes ^_^

BourgeoisBuffoon

Crazy8s
08-15-2001, 06:24 PM
I actually came up with Crazy8s back when we first got the computer and my daughter (known to some of you as DizzieDumb) called herself 'aces&eights'. I've always been fairly crazy and I stuck the 8s in there to match her name. She's changed her name several times, but I've always stuck with Crazy8s and I use it everywhere I post. It's just so me!

I haven't even an idea of how to create one of these avatars everyone has. If I did, it would be my beloved Dr. Craven from Godzilla.

Nightwing
08-15-2001, 06:33 PM
There's not much mistery to my handle as there is a story. Not many know this but 3 or so years ago when DG's first message board went up I went by "Nightbat". I was and still am a HUGE Dick Grayson fan and so I wanted Nightwing, but I feared it would be too generic to not only accept by the server but to be able to place me from other 'Nightwings' as well. So I stuck with Nightbat for a while. A year or so later I changed it to Nightwing, what I wanted, and it's been that way ever since.

There have been other "Nightwing" type names to pop up (like NightWing2 and things like that), at the time (before either toonzone era started, this one or the previous one) but they were short lived. More than one at once even, to really cause some confusion! Things were weird with the handles in that respect back then. Not like now. :)

My current avatar is the Gotham Policeman from BB:ROTJ who we all love for saluting Terry after supplying the proof that he was allied with the Jokerz. The avatar is just a temporary fun thing I put up while I finish my third of my official Nightwing avatars. The next one will be done soon. Funny thing though, that guy is saluting with his LEFT hand. Oh well.

Well, I always loved Bruce Wayne /Batman, I used to have a tiny crush on the animation character. Selina Kyle is my favorite female villain of all time. She is also Ga-Ga over Batman... sorta like me. I took Selina's and Bruce's last name and added them together to create my nickname on this board. Althought my parents have nicknamed me Bat and my friends call me Catwoman :p. Well the pic I chose for now shows her assets and alot more. Isn't she a tease !:D Gotta love her!....Btw, this Cat is 24 and loving the single life until I find me a nice catch...well meow everyone ;)

Which brings us nicely onto the question of avatars. Mine is currently taken from Frank Miller's Sin City art work. Current favourites I have used has been Mark from Battle Of The Planets and Slaine the celtic comic character drawn by Preacher cover artist Glenn 'FAB' Fabry... having a name with no connection with Batman gives a great deal of versatility......

Mine's boring. I'm a fan of BTAS, and especially Harley, so I named myself after her hyenas (sorry, Maxie--no Abbott and Costello references..haven't seen enough of them to call myself a fan, really). My avatar, obviously, is a pic of the hyenas taken from the official TNBSA site, which my punkin pah, redDragon, kindly cropped and shrunk, etc for me.

Leaping Larry Jojo
08-16-2001, 09:13 PM
Well...

I started posting on boards a few years ago under the name "Jojo." It was good because it was ambiguous. It could be either male or female, which was ideal because I was still wary of this "internet" thing and wanted to keep myself safe for the time being. Very naive.

Somehow, the name stuck, but lately, people have been thinking I was a female. Being a regular poster by now (yes, it took me a few years to react), I used an old 1980s jobber wrestler's name--Leaping Lanny Poffo--for inspiration. So I just combined Leaping with Jojo, and made up "Larry" for originality.

However, when the board changed, I couldn't fit in "Leaping Larry Jojo" anymore, so I had to slice the "ing."

Kind like when Milhouse tried to fit the name "Thrillhouse" in his video game and came up with "Thrillho."

Fish

Well my name comes from a small comic strip I once drew in 8th grade. It was about this underwater town with fish in it. I created this mayor called Mr Cod. That became my email when a later got on the Net. But people in chatrooms called me Fish for short, and I kinda liked it. I have RL friends that I hardly know their real names of. We all call eachother our screennames.
So sometimes in RL I'm just Fish :)

I have tried to find some funny pictures of cartoon fish and this big fat ugly fish just popped up on my screen one day. I like it!
I also have an avatar with the japanese kanji for Fish - "Ju"
But I don't think I want to use it.

Danish Dynamite is from 1985 when Denmark was in Mexico to play soccer...we did not win the worldchampionship but the fightsong was awesome!!

that's just me....

Maxie Zeus:
I didn't even notice you'd dropped the "ing."
I had...which to me made the name look off. I hadn't realized there was a letter limit on handles...but I've taken to just writing "L.L. Jojo" for short--makes him sound like either a "gangsta" rapper or a clothing store. ;)
Rocky also refers to her sister--which she's always grumbling about in our e-conversations--as "Jojo". So for a while I thought it was the same Jojo. I'm glad I didn't ask him any dumb queries about fashion or fellas and embarrass my darn self....

My name comes from the bond movie/game Goldeneye. When I was making my e-mail account, I tried everything (goldeneye, goldeneye1, goldeneye007, etc.) and they were all taken. So I followed my friend's lead. He wanted his e-mail to be "theoutlaw" but that was already taken. So he added a d at the end. I did the same thing. Then when I started visiting message boards, I was going to use Goldeneyed as my handle, but some other guy who has a Spider-Man site, had already been using it. So I just kept the "eye" part of my e-mail and added Mr. :)

We might also explain our titles. Mine, "Beachmaster," is the term for an alpha male seal. Also sounds like a party.

Hello my name is Peter Melnick. I was once a talk show host. Until....I WAS BITTEN BY A RADIOACTIVE GUEST!....wrong origin.....
:o
Actually I was a hugh bean bag toy collector. Onew day I needed a username for Yahoo. It was hard. But I remembered a great name! Got Lucky! Two years ago I saw on the Meanie Beanies website a rabbit with one foot called Lucky the rabbit. Later they released a Valentine's day version with kisses on his face and boxers with hearts on them. I needed somethine unique! I added a 64 it (Since I loved N64 games). Then I was born! Then shortly after I signed up I was bitten by a radioactive gerbil! NOW I'M GERBIL-MAN! *smack* nevermind

I find that "Jojo" is also a common name for monkeys. :D

As for fashion questions...you'd have been outta luck, fella. "Tommy Hilfigger" and all those other nonsense fashion-related names mean nothing to me.

So how do I buy clothes?

"Gee, this is cheap, and I like the colour. I'll take it!"

So I'm the last guy to talk to fashion about. Never did understand guys who go on and on about their clothes and what brand they are...

Girls who yap about clothes I can understand. It is a less admirable trait for guys.

Well, in 1997 I got the internet and decided I needed a handle to post on the Batman boards. So I wanted something that sounded lke a country hick villain. So I purely came up with the name Mr. Morris Mayhem! So on my first few posts (Back in 1997/1998) at The Bat-Toon Board, Brian's Batman Page, and Batman The Animated Homepage I typed in a real southern dialect. Actually it was some what annoying. So I kinda straightened it out and just acted normal. Last Christmas (2000) when I left WF to post on the DC Boards, I dropped the Morris part. So now I just go with Mr. Mayhem.

I remember Meanie Beanies! I collect bean bags toys too, and I always thought the Meanies were really funny.

Anyways, my cat's name is Tuffy, and he's the greatest cat in the world...so that's where my name comes from. Plus, I couldn't think of anything better. :D

Master of the Bagging Arts- My name relates my place of work, as does my title. I'm a bagger/cashier/stocker/janitor/cart retreaver/etc at my place of work. I basically do what everyone else doesn't want to do. Sucks, huh?...
