I just saw "Shriek" for the first time today (yes, as you can tell, I am a fairly new BB fan), and the fight scene where Shriek cancelled out the soundwaves and the only sound you could hear was Batman's footsteps had me sitting there virtually speechless. It was the most incredible thing I've ever seen in animation. I actually jumped when that truck came barrelling out of seemingly nowhere, and Ace saved Terry just in time.
And in Mind Games, that whole fight sequence with Batman and the fat, mystical guy in that other plane (or dimension or whatever it was) was one of the best fight scenes I've seen anywhere . . . ANYWHERE! I was sitting with my mouth open, especially when Terry was able to deflect the knife and send it back at the mystic guy.
Spellbound has wonderful special effects (the part where Batman's taking a nose dive and wakes up just in time sticks in my head), and there are several others. The animation, story lines and special effects in this show all seemed top-notch for the most part. And yet they're cancelling it? I hear that one of the driving reasons behind this decision was money . . .it costs lots of dough to put together sequences like the CG sequence in Final Cut. But, darnit, weren't the ratings through the roof? Wouldn't that justify the costs?
Ah, well. I guess I should get over it. But it's gonna take a while. With every ep I see, I fall deeper in love with this show, and I realize just how groundbreaking it was -- in every way.
