Li's new voice is gay, i hate when they change voices in between seasons, some are better, like Agent K from MIB, or James of Pokemon. But some are dumb like Li's or Krillen of DBZ.

Printo, you are aware Li swings both ways in the original show, right? And by the way, nice avatar. M-O-O-N, that spells Patrick Star.

Not exactly.
Spoilers--highlight to read
Li only liked Yui. And Yui explains the reason why both card captors (Sakura and Li) are attracted to him. IIRC, people with magic powers are automatically attracted to Yui. Yui later told Li to search his true feelings, which ends up being with Sakura
I'm not sure if this is the same in the manga, however.

I always felt that, that was a bit weird.

Yukito, my friend, Yukito, not Yui. Still, Li didn't seem to mind his reaction to Yukito....

His door may swing both ways...but it'll take me a while to get used to the new voice. It's like some weird reverse puberty or something--going higher and not deeper. Did an actress (or different actress) take over the role? It sounds esp. weird in flashbacks, because those scenes apparently had to be partially redone to make them fit with the new scheme.
At least Madison, sweet Sapphic thing, still sounds the same....

Li didn't seem to mind whose reaction to Yukito?
Yukito still emits a sense of attraction even though he is not aware of it. It's Yui's power at work.

Yeah, what I was saying was Li wasn't disturbed by the fact that he was attracted to Yukito/Yue. A truly heterosexual person would have had a major freak out to be that drawn to a member of the same gender. Li wasn't, so I think he really is bisexual, or as bisexual as a ten-year-old comes.
Of course, once Yue and Tomoyo ram his interest for Sakura down his throat, his interests in others, whether male (Yukito) or female (Mei-lin) fade into the background.

The whole moon attraction issue may be explainable, but ultimately it's an excuse for shouen ai.
As for Li and Sakura....
A nymphette air aside, Sakura is really not far from the likes of "Ash Ketchum" or any of Digimon's goggle boys. Clueless, energetic, friendly, protective... I see Li's interest in her being no different than "Gary's" alleged interest in "Ash", or the resident pretty boy("Matt"/Ken/"Henry"????)'s towards the brunnette goggle boy of his respective season.

That's one thing that turned me off somewhat from the original (though I still like the show quite a bit). Sakura was so...ordinary. She was like your typical "good" Japanese schoolgirl, and frankly, I'm a bit bored with that kind of stereotype. I guess it's no wonder I'm more drawn to flawed characters like Meilin...or even Sailor Moon...

Sorry, I don't have a thought on Card Captors (still haven't seen it), but I wanted to mention I have some details on an upcoming soundtrack release for the show from Rhino Records. I haven't reported it yet on the news page because I figured either the big anime sites had already reported it or there wouldn't be enough interest on it here at TZ.
But if you fans posting in this thread here feel otherwise, I'll gladly oblige with a report.

I heard about it, but if you think this was top news on anime sites or newsboards...uh-uh! Cardcaptors is not exactly a popular subject among anime fans, so I'd be surprised if it even registers a blip on anime news pages.

you said (on a diff thread i think) that the story line of card captors is different from what KWB is showing b/c of editing. then what is the real story? why did they edit it? what did they edit?

Well, I don't want to go into detail, but they basically edit out "talking" scenes or basic interaction scenes to get to the action. This is to appeal to the WB's boy demographic.
They also have skipped about 20 episodes, considering that they are already up to episode 50 in the original Japanese numbering.

Just to add my two cents (and reaffirm my existence in the universe while I'm at it), the basic story structure's all the same. They just cut it down to the bare essentials. In the originals they spent a lot more time setting up stories and developing characters. Like Larry said, the talky stuff.
The cuts were made to remove objectionable content (drunken Kero), to meet time constraints (cutting at least two min. per ep.), to de-emphasize the Japanese setting (no more cultural festivals), to make it less girly (all the relationships are toned wa-a-a-y down), and to focus on action, action, and more action. And they changed the names and music.
By the by, anybody else seriously disturbed by the way "gay" has pretty much replaced "geek" and "dweeb" in the slang lately?

i know what you mean. i would never use "gay" to describe anything or anyone other than homosexual. some people don't think twice about using it to replace "geek" or "dweeb." it is also very similar when people use the term "retard" to describe someone who is stupid, and i think it is very a very insulting term. i don't always sound politically correct, but i know that there are certian terms that people find that type of language offensive so i won't use it. i do cuss (usually never the hardcore words), but i will never use the word "gay" that so many people use today do describe anything other than homosexual and i will never use the word "retard", ever.

ok. to be more politically correct Li's new voice no longers matches his persona of a cold, silent character. probably b/c he is not the clow card master he tried to live up to, & girl beat him. i still dont like it.

oh well. gay is no longer confined to being short for homosexual. things can now be gay. the same goes for retard. li's voice is gay and that makes him a retard.

--"gay" used to mean happy. It really bothers me how some people corrupt the English language and render certain words unusable. Same with "queer", which used to just mean unusual or strange. When did all these ignorant and hateful connotations get attached to words that you can still hear with their original meanings in old cartoons and storybooks?

i don't know, sir. the whole thing reeks of a retarded gayness. i know gay=happy. that's why i don't laugh when the last line of the flintstones theme is sung.

How about "fairies?" ;)
There's one slang term I could never figure out how it originated. How many slang terms for the word "homosexual" are there?

I dunno, but I can think of @ least one more, one which also applies to burning embers of wood, & I realize the redundancy there. I also can remember when gay meant happy & queer meant strange. I choose to think of gay as meaning happy, especially when reading the Chronicles of Narnia & other classic literature. And I think I'll let it go @ that, as people who've been paying attention to me (you poor thing, y'all) can pretty much figure out where I stand on the whole thing. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

> ... and i will never use the word "retard", ever. <
Disgracefully overlooked fact: 'Retard' is actually a verb, meaning "To slow the progress of; impede or delay." (Source: American Heritage Dictionary)
My Dad pointed this out to me, when I used to get called that in school. It gave me a psychological defense to know that kids who so misused the language were just showing off how stupid they were.
