Well, I got Final Fantasy Tactics for my birthday and I couldn't be any happier. I have played every FF game except for Final Fantasy 3j and Tactics...and now I have Tactics.

Now Tactics isn't your typical Final Fantasy game. Its just like "Final Fantasy Mystic Quest" in that its a FF game, but its not a standard one.

Tactics is a strategy RPG in that you're in control of a small army and you have to participate in battles to obtain a specific goal and reveal more of the story.

I have played a few hours of Tactics and I already love the game. Its a refreshing play on the Final Fantasy franchise in that its so different from all the others...and its actually fun to battle in different ways instead of doing the same repetitive thing in the standard FFs.

I thought that I would hate this game because of its fighting style. You see, in most Final Fantasies, there is usually some kind of event where you would have to split up into groups or command a small army and fight in battles to protect someone. An example of this is the Fort Condor battle against ShinRa in FF7. I usually do VERY poorly in these events and I have to beat it by conventional means. But in Final Fantasy Tactics, I can fine-tune my abilities in commanding armies and plus it presents the battle in an easy to use interface so I can have an easy time playing the game.

Do you guys have any comments on Final Fantasy Tactics, or can you guys give me some random advice/tips on the game?

:D

I guess it could have been better if characters could use more than two class types at any give time.

Personally I love the turn-based Strategy RPGs. Tactics Ogre. FFT. Vanguard Bandits. Langrisser. Saiyuki. Arc the Lad. Bahamut Lagoon. Brigadine. Fallout Tactics. Eternal Eyes. Growlanser. Ogre Battle. Front Mission. Vandal Hearts. Hoshigami. Kartia. Shining Force.

or can you guys give me some random advice/tips on the game? Sure. Don't really bother with hired solders after you start getting the main characters. Except to take on the jobs you can get in bars. It's always nice to have the characters I don't really need running around earning gold and items and a bit of experience while I'm completing the main quest. :)

Only invest leveling characters in specific classes that you know will allow them to get the better, higher division classes. And don't bother learning more than two of the higher classes per character since each character can only have access to the abilities of two classes at any given time. I highly recommend finding a guide on-line that will give you the class break down so you can plan things out in advance.

And keep your eyes out for the Cloud sub-quest. He's not the best character in the game, but the sub-quest does give you access to some of the other good characters. Plus it's a fun little diversion. :)

How did you get to play FF1j and FF2j?

Or if DS has an imported NES that would work too...

I wish they would make a standard Final Fantasy game with this battle system.

2. Whenever someone joins your party make sure you take their powerful items and give them to your own characters (you can replace their stuff with something less expensive). You never know when they may suddenly decide to leave your party and take all that cool stuff with them.

It's a great game, I know you'll enjoy it DS. :)

1. Alright, make sure that your character's faith levels never get too high, or above 94. Otherwise they will leave your party at the end of a battle.
2. As for brave levels, don't let it get too low of the character will turn into a chicken and run around the field out of control.
3. This will be later in the game, but I'll just warn you now. Be careful when fighting assasin's, they have a move called "Shadow Sitch" that will stop character 100% of the time. If you try to get close and attack, but don't kill them, they have a move called "Stop Sitch" that will kill a character with one shot. They also have a charm move that works 100% of the time. This will be later in the game, but I'm just giving you a warning now.

Thanks for the heads up. The manual never told me what will happen with Faith levels, so I got suspicious. Now that I know, I keep an eye on it.

This one sounds challenging, I can't wait for this event.

Heh, heh, this is a standard RPG tip that I'll never forget. Thanks

Thanks alot, I'll print a guide from GameFAQs if I can. They have in depth guides on job classes that don't reveal the overall game, so I'm blessed.

I love Cloud...I won't miss this side quest for the world!

A great tactical game, and it's not on the computer! A really game that combines the RPG and tactic games like Command Conquer elements.

All this talk about the game is making me want to play it. It is only $15... :)

Too bad it's on the Greatest Hits and has the stupid green bar on there.

What's wrong with the green bar? It doesn't detract from the cover art...its just on the side of the jewel case. The green bar is a symbol of greatness you know.

To earn that green bar, a game has to have earned a high revenue in sales and have been out for 1 - 1 1/2 years. That's a sign of greatness, and Final Fantasy Tactics has certainly earned its bar. :D

I don't have a problem with the bar, just the color.

I'm not a big fan of the RPG/Strategy combo, but Final Fantasy Tactics is a fargin great game. If you're still on the lower levels I suggest switching most of your characters to the monk class/job and level them up until they learn Hamedo (I think that's the name of the skill). It's a low level skill that acts as a low cost cure spell. Having all your characters able to heal themselves is extremely handy in the first part of the game. However, in the later parts of the game it's all about the dragoons.
