Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me the current status of the Harley & Ivy comic book mini-series?

In case you don't know, this project has been in the works for the past 3 years now. It's being done by the all divine team of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm! The last I've heard is that it's already been penciled and is just waiting to be inked and colored.

Could anyone please tell me if this project is now dead or not?

I have hear the same.
That it is already penciled.

First the mini was drawn in BTAS style.
But then came TNBA and Bruce Timm has draw the comics complete new in the new style.

But I donīt know much more :(

Shane Glines was suposed to ink it, and Glen Murakami was going to color it, but they've been busy enough lately.

YEah, the funny thing is that I just don't understand why people don't get off their butts and finish it. I'm not totally eagerly anticipating it or anything, but come on, three years is more than enough time. It was my understanding that the series was sooo close to being complete over a year ago - maybe DC is shelving it because they feel it won't sell? Maybe the GOTHAM GIRLS mini is replacing it?

Hmmm.

It's kinda sad...especially in these days, lacking in new episodes and whatnot, we need this sorta thing to keep the animated world alive. *SNIFF* Why won't they bring it out?

If anyone from DC is reading this thread, do you have any answers? Hmmmmm? Inquiring minds want to know!

:D

I completely agree!!!! Oh, and I also hope they don't replace it with Gotham Girls, but just do them both. :)

Yeah, I'd been wondering about this project too- I saw it in the Batman: Animated book and was drawn in by the little bit that was there. It'd be nice if DC could get these guys to finish it up, but time's a valuable thing for those invovled, so I guess we'll have to wait...

Last I had heard, Bruce Timm's work on the comic was done. Dini wrote it, Timm drew it, and it was handed off to the inker and whoever comes after that. And then it just disappeared off the radar screen completely.

Time to nip THAT idea in the bud.

GOTHAM GIRLS is in no way, shape or form a "replacement" for Paul Dini and Bruce Timm's Harley & Ivy mini. I know. I pitched the series to DC. The two aren't connected at all, other than, obviously, the work of Dini and Timm is inspiration for all things Batman Animated.

I'm not "in the know" on why HARLEY & IVY isn't hitting the stands, but I can tell ya that it must not be complete. Otherwise, DC would put it out. I mean, c'mon -- this is Dini & Timm we're talking about here. In addition to being fans of those guys, don't you think the folks at DC would love to put that money in the bank?

Keep in mind that the fans don't see all that goes on behind the scenes. It's possible that the contracts call for certain people to do certain jobs and those people haven't had the time to do the work. There are any number of things that can bog down a project at almost any stage of the game. I don't know what they are in this case and I'm not going to speculate.

I did feel I had to weigh in on this simply to make sure that everyone is clear that GOTHAM GIRLS is GOTHAM GIRLS (hope everyone reading here picks it up and enjoys it) and it's not a substitute for HARLEY & IVY.

...however, I think this project has been in the works for over three years. The first time I heard about it was in the lettercol of The Batman Adventures, just around the time they announced the Holiday Special issue (with stories featuring Mr. Freeze, Clayface, Batgirl...you know the one!) If I recall correctly, it was announced that the series would debut in the summer of that year and possibly feature Harley and Ivy heading out to an exotic location of some kind. Why would they have announced it way back then if it wasn't even pencilled yet? My guess is that Timm pencilled it in B:TAS style close to eight years ago, but things got bogged down, and then TNBA came and the art had to be redone again. Why it hasn't hit the shelves is a mystery to me, but with any luck, Gotham Girls will stir up enough attention (as if it hasn't already ) and DC will do it's utmost to get Harley and Ivy out to the eager, rabid fans!!!

Why? Because the best laid plans of mice and men aft gang agly.

There is many a project announced before it's in the drawer. Many, too, that are put on the production schedule and don't come together as planned. As WB Yeats so eloquently put it, "Things fall apart."

Possibly, though the style of the Animated Series does not necessarily dictate the style of a project. For example, the recent Harley and Ivy tale by Judd Winick and Joe Chiodo.

Here's hoping!!

You should keep in mind, though, that it may not be DC that's the hold up. As mentioned up the thread, it's possible that someone in the creative team has just been too busy to work on it.

Exactly. Shane Glines (the inker) is one busy guy --- and you're the one responsible Paul! ;)

Salvor,

Hey, grateful as I am to have Shane doing covers, don't blame me! Joan Hilty is the one who tapped him for the gig.

Still, 5 illos over several months is a lot less time consuming than several issues. It may be that Shane wanted to do some Batman Animated stuff, just to keep his hand in, and the covers gave him an opportunity to do that while still meeting his other commitments (pure speculation on my part, you understand).
