View Full Version : Would you give Clooney another chance?

I feel that Clooney deserves another chance. He definitely didn't have a good director, or a good script, heck, nothing in the movie was really that good for a Batman movie. Clooney in my opinion is a great actor and can prove he can be serious (Batman) and charming (Bruce) if he really needs to. With the new Bats VS. Supes movie coming out, I think Clooney would be a great choice since Bat's should be around his late 30's-early 40's which is where Clooney is at right now. He also looks the part especially his lower-face area. Here's a pic of him in the bat-suit with the other 2 actors that played Bats in the previous bat-movies:

The only thing he need to work on appearance-wise is to look more serious under the mask. Clooney doesn't look as serious as he's suppose to be in that pic and should be like how Keaton is in the pic above.
So, those are my thoughts. Anyone have any opinions on why Clooney should be given another chance or not?

I think I'd actually have to say no. Not that I didn't like him in the part, or that he isn't a good actor, because I love him, but I just don't think Batman is for him. If he was given another chance, sure, he could take it, I just don't think he should. He made a good Bruce Wayne I think, but didn't really carry off the Batman feel too well. It was just Bruce Wayne under the mask, which is a big difference from being just plain Batman.

Clooney does not deserve Batman. I would have voted no, but that option distinctly says he had his chance with B & R. He didn't. Nobody had a chance with that disgrace of a movie. But just because he wasn't given a fair shot doesn't mean he should get one. He has clearly stated how boring he feels Batman's character is compared with the villains, and how Bruce needs to get over his parents already--he's got all that money and those toys. And this was after the movie, after he already acknowledged what an atrocity it was. Clooney is great at playing bad boys, as long as they have that shrewd grin. He doesn't understand a character who chooses to truly live in the dark.

I hate George Clooney as much as I hate Dean Cain. They were miserable choices to portray their characters.
Here's what endlessly annoyed me about both Dean Cain and George Clooney.
Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent are two very different people from Batman and Superman.
Clooney and Cain did not bother to alter their performance at all when portraying their secret identities.
Think about it: In the first three Batman movies, Kilmer and Keaton both made it a point to make their Batman more gruff and brooding than Bruce Wayne.
In the Superman movies, Christopher Reeves made sure everyone got the clue that Clark was simply a total dork. Superman was cool and calm, and Clark was anything but.
Clooney and Cain made no attempt at this, and therefore in my eyes were never fit and will never be fit to play these characters.
They are just plain horrible, and should never be able to wear a cape again.

Thanx guys for posting your thoughts. I do remember what Clooney said SilentBob173, and that did make me mad at him. I guess I forgot to point out that he should make his Bruce and Batman character as distinct as possible, so the public of Gotham wouldn't suspect Bruce being Bats. But in B&R his voice didn't change at all, and it sounded like he wasn't trying.
But, if Clooney should be given a chance, and Clooney would take it very seriously, I think he would pull off the part nicely. I think that's the only problem I have with Clooney being Bats, he doesn't take it too seriously. I always wondered what Clooney's Batman would be like if he had a director that truly appreciated the character of Batman, and everyone on the whole production took it very seriously. I think that would've made a great movie to watch. And now, batfans may have the chance to see a serious live-action Batman (and Superman) movie since a decade ago (2 decades for Superman fans)! (scary, isn't it?)
I have a few more questions for the people that said Clooney shouldn't come back. Is your opinion on Clooney based on his poor performance on B&R? And if so, what if the last 2 bat-films were never made, and a bat-movie was going to be made with Clooney in it, and with a crew that would take the whole movie seriously, and try to make it a good film to watch? Would you still not want Clooney to play Bats even if he tried to act the Bruce/Batman character to the best of his ability?

I dunno, maybe if Tim Burton were behind it, and there were better script writers. I'd rather get Keaton or Kilmer back behind the mask before Clooney though. Even if Clooney did do a good job, Batman & Robin would still be haunting it so if Clooney did Batman for the next film, well that could make them more uneasy about Batman films if people didn't want to see it because of Clooney.

As Alfred Pennyworth would say, Not a chance in the Batcave. >.<
If they make another Batman movie I would love for Michael Keaton to return to the role as "The Dark Knight". He was the first and the best, I don't know how they got past Movie Three without him.

I voted for flat-out "no"...mainly because he left such a bad taste in my mouth. Besides, no matter how much the man shaves, there's always stubble. Clooney was stunt-casting at it's best...actually Ah-nold was stunt casting...Clooney was just poor casting.

Hmmm...see, I didn't find him terribly revolting in BATMAN & ROBIN, except when he had to crack those stupid one-liners (not his fault) and the head-waggling (which was his fault). I thought his Bruce Wayne was OK, because he showed the softer, more sociable side of the character that we never saw with Keaton and Kilmer, raelly.
As for Batman though, he was just bad. Ultimately I'd say I don't want to see him back, though I did have to take into account the good movies he's done since B&R (THREE KINGS, the one with J.Lo whose title I forget, PERFECT STORM, OCEAN'S ELEVEN, etc) and the fact that the director and writer are more to blame.
Since we're starting the entire franchise over, however, I don't want ANY of the same actors coming back to reprise any roles...except for all the villains (besides Freeze), Alfred, and Keaton or Kilmer.
I say we get the guy from the Onstar commercials to have a shot; I know he didn't need to do anything fabulous in those commercials, but at the same time, he did nothing poorly. What's this guy's name, anyway? I hear his name is Bruce...really!
Sorry Clooney - I don't blame you for the quality of B&R, but I don't think I want to see you in the cape again, either.

Nothing about Batman & Robin was the fault of George Clooney. He was just the actor, and I'm sure he received as much instructor from the director of the film on how to be nicer and read those awful one-liners. George Clooney did not write the dialogue and he did not direct the movie, and the scenes with him as Bruce Wayne WERE pretty good. I think he's made the best Bruce Wayne yet.
Clooney deserves another shot with a new script and new direction. He has the making of the greatest Batman ever.

As much as I love Clooney as an actor, I'm going to have to go with no on this one. He made a pretty good Bruce Wayne, I'll give him that much, but he truly stunk as Batman. He just is not right for the part, he really doesn't portray Batman as he needs to be -- he comes off more as Bruce Wayne in a Batman costume than anything else.

Well...let's see. The man can flat ACT. He's got the look, the build. With a better cowl and costume, he could LOOK like Batman. We know he can be intimidating. With a decent script, he could ROCK.
Here's the thing...
According to a "good source" over at BATMAN ON FILM, BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN is a sequel, and Akiva Goldsman is adjusting Walker's script. And George just might be back in the cape and cowl for the last installment before the new BATMAN and SUPERMAN movies come out.

I'm a little dumbfounded by this "deserves" notion. Do you have any idea how many outstanding out-of-work actors there are? George Clooney is very far from the top of his trade. His charisma may put him in the A-lists, and he usually typecasts fairly well, but he is hardly what you would call an "actor's actor." Like I said, I wouldn't judge anyone harshly for their performance in B&R, considering what they had to work with. But, even setting my other objections aside, lets be real; what are the chances we can't find someone better?

There's one major flaw with Clooney--he's not Batman..he's a Bruce Wayne, but he's NOT a Batman. I wouldn't give him another chance, simply because he isn't Batman.

Well, given the right cosutume and script, he could possibly do a good job, but I would rather see someone else. I think my problem is, that I would always have flashbacks to B&R while watching it, no matter how good the new movie may be.

I don't really care. I didn't really like B&R so if he does good... well... he does good.

I am the only person to vote other so far. Overall I liked Clooney as Batman, but the movie as a whole was so corny in places that no one except for maybe Michael Gough could look good.
I went with 'other' because I personally wouldn't mind seeing him as Batman again, I'm not dying to see it happen, but I still care. If the entire rest of the movie (i.e. director and writer) were different he would probably do well, but with the stigma attached to Batman & Robin I don't think it has much of a chance of happening.
