Well, since it seems so rarely talked about (gasp! reading?), what books (other than graphic novels/comics) are you guys reading right now? And while we're on the subject, what kind of books are you interested in? What are some of your favorites? Any particular authors/playwrights?

I'm currently alternating between X-Files: Whirlwind & Communion by Whitley Strieber...
I generally lean toward the sci-fi and horror categories, but I'm not above buying something completely out of those two genres...

I'm re-reading the book "Spiritual Machines" by Ray Kurzweil for the fifth time. It gets better every time I read it.

Recently I've been reading every Batman novel I can get my hands on. Right now I'm reading "Batman: To Stalk A Specter." It's pretty good.

Right now I'm reading Patricia Cornwell's Black Notice and going to be starting on Tanith Lee's Silver Metal Lover.
I'm more of a mystery book kinda person and I like horror too. I like Cornwell, and Barbara Michaels and John Saul. Oh and ANne Rice. :)

The House of the Seven Gables and David Copperfield. However, the latter is more out of my own free will than the first one is. The first is a summer assignment, but that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying it! :D

Currently, I am happy to be not reading any books, although there is a chance of me reading two books about cartoons in the near future if I get bored. Other than that, I will have to read for school when it returns.

I'm currently reading the novelization of "Batman: No Man's Land"
When I finish it, I'm either gonna read Timeline (by Crichton) or Harry Potter & the Sorceror's Stone

I'm reading Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (again). I hope to get some more of his books for school. I might also get into Stephen King (yes I have not read any of his books yet).
I, amazingly enough, am not reading anything right now. Not really anyway, the past two days I've read two chapters of Jedi Apprentice: The Rising Force, two chapters of Emma, a page of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and glanced through my copy of Twelfth Night. But I'm not really reading anything right now.

I just finished re-reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets . I'm looking for another book to read, anybody have any suggestions?

Well the Arthurian novels by Mary Stewart are really awesome, i would certainly recommend reading those. As for, I'm reading Shakespeare...ALL of it, the ones I've read, and the ones I haven't. With that I'm getting through a handful of Star Wars novels, and there are two or three other books I have yet to dive into thatwere recommended reading for college. They looked interesting enough. Oh, and I finally tracked down the other Sherlock Holmes book I needed, so I'll be starting that as soon as possible...I've been Holmes deprived for like three weeks *sobs*.

Note: Cafe Mods, shouldn't this be moved to the Entertainment board?

Well, other than another Harry Potter book, you might try some of Diana Wynne Jones' books. Like Rowling, she specializes in children's fantasy. Except she's been doing it for more than 20 years, IIRC.
She's quite a respected writer, though she doesn't advertise herself as well as Rowling does. However, there is an animated film in the works that's going to be an adaptation of one of her books. The film will be produced by Studio Ghibli. Hayao Miyazaki will be involved, but in what capacity we do not know yet.

lol, pretty opposite storylines there Nightflower! But both incredible books. NML was so awesome. I read Memoirs a few years back, but boy did I love it. What did you think about either of them? And gtracer, obviously if you haven't read anything by Tolkien, I would really recommend starting!

I'm reading what I consider my first mainstream book... Timeline by Michael Crichton.
It's pretty good so far....
Just got done finishing the AMAZING War of Souls Saga from the latest Dragonlance books. Incredible! I thought they were just trying to cash in on more money, but I have to say they had a story to tell and did it damn well.
Next up is a Harry Potter book, but if I can't get my hands on that, the next in the Ender Saga.
Runner up, a book from my favorite author, Dan Simmons.

I'm reading The Bourne Identity, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Star Wars: Rebel Dawn. Interesting collection, isn't it?

Hey The Game, you're reading Star Wars: Rebel Dawn too? So am I, and I LOVE it!! Definitely one of the best Star Wars book cycles around, I'm so annoyed at myself for not picking it up sooner (I had Paradise Snare for nearly three years before reading it, LOVED it, ran out to buy the other two, but could only find Rebel Dawn. Nuts :( ).
And, unless I buy The Hutt Gambit anytime soon (the middle book in the trilogy for those unaware) I'll be moving on to Ian Flemming's Thunderball afterward.

Right now I'm in the middle of Dostoyevsky's "Crime & Punishment," and Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Also, I've been reading a few Spidey novels (they go by pretty quickly), and a book on Alfred Hitchcock.
By the way, Game--"Picture of Dorian Gray," IMO, is a great book. One of my favorites...

Since I have five assigned books for school, they pretty much take up all my time. I haven't had a chance to read for pleasure in a long time. Stupid school.
Right now, I'm reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X.
I finished The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. It's very good and very strange. I also finished Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Half of it is written in standard English, and the other half is in Southern dialect.
I also have Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich and The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro.

Reading "The Skies of Pern" by Anne McCaffrey, and just finished "The Horse Whisperer" by Nicholas Evans. I love all of Anne McCaffrey's Pern books, but they do have adult things in them, (plus being 500 pages long). I'd recommend all of Harry Potter series, and Ted L Nancy's "Letters from a Nut" and "More Letters from a Nut" for a laugh. Oh, and "Acorna: The Unicorn Girl"
series by Anne McCaffrey is great too. These other books sound good too. Now I want to go to the library...

I've been reading a lot in the past couple of weeks, but I'm currently on Dune: House Harkonnen after finishing all the the Bourne books written by Ludlum, Dune: House Atreidies, The Harry Potter Books and the Chronicles of Narnia. After House Harkonnen I'm planning on finally jumping into Lord of the Rings and Dune: House Corrino

The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum. A very good read and I hope to read the sequels. :)
All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It's an autobiography of a veterinarian. Wonderful stories about people and animals, and there's a lot of good insight about human beings from Herriot. Nothing new I suppose, but it's a good reminder to know how people can and will behave and how to deal with those situations. I've already started the sequel All Things Bright and Beautiful, and I have Herriot's next three books lining up after that. :D
Kiss the Girls by James Patterson. Started this a few nights ago and I think I should read it during the day. I'm not far into it enough to have an opinion about it except it creeps me out when I decide to go to sleep and turn out the lights.
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. I have never read the book as a child and after visiting P.E.I. about 2 weeks ago, I bought the box set from Amazon.com.

Oooooooooooooo... "Crime and Punishment" :( . I could never get through that. I started reading it a few weeks ago but just stopped because i didn't care anymore. I may give it another try later, but i'm really digging the "Hitchikers" books.
I also forgot to mention that i just finished "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" which was just an excellent book.

At the moment, I'm reading "The Cosmic Power Within You" by Dr. Joseph Murphy. Before that, I read his "Power of the Subconscious Mind".
In the past, I've been most interested in SW and ST books. The last SW book I read was AOTC. Right now, I'm more interested in reading something "meaningful" like Murphy's books.

Vector Prime from the New Jedi Order series. After that I have the rest of the NJO series to go through and the entire Nero Wolfe mystery series.
