View Full Version : My crazy theory! Everybody read!

I had a crazy theory recently. Everyone tell me what you think about it.

Okay, as we all know Paul Dini and Alan Burnett (is it Alan Burnett?) are writing the live action Batman Beyond feature film. As we also know, Dini and Burnett are two guys behind the animated series who catered to Batman fans around the world giving them everything they wanted, which was just about everything a live action batman film could never do.

The live action films weren't that great. All Bat fans (most) can admit to that. But here now we have Dini and Burnett, two guys from the animated series, writing a live action film.

Now here's my CRAZY theory: Dini and Burnett know what Bat fans want. WB studios is made up of a group of monkeys so they don't. But Dini and Burnett DO KNOW what Bat fans want to see.

So, since Batman Beyond the cartoon series and comic were both cancelled, and since there is of yet no plans to make another animated movie and since there is quite an outrage in the hardcore Bat fan community to know what happened to Dick Grayson in the Batman Beyond universe, DO YOU THINK IT'S POSSIBLE WE WILL HAVE THOSE ANSWERS IN THE LIVE ACTION FILM??????????????????????????

I just had this crazy theory since I trust Dini and Burnett. They probably both know that Bat fans want to know the fate of Nightwing/Robin/Dick Grayson. Since they most likely know all that, do you think it's possible that the live action BB film will provide us with more answers? Do you think Dini and Burnett will sneak that into the movie to draw Bat fans to the theaters like a pack of drooling dogs?

I doubt there would be a flashback sequence, because the live action BB film could NOT focus on the fate of Dick Grayson alone, but in order to create TOTAL SUCCESS with the Bat fan community, I think it would be wise of Dini and Burnett to answer questions about the BB universe that no cartoon or comic can answer since they're both bye bye now!

And because I think Dini and Burnett are wise, I think it's possible, although a crazy theory, to think that we might see the fate of Grayson in the live action movie as opposed to another cartoon BB movie that will probably never get made.

So what do you think?

If ANYBODY here has been keeping a big secret from the rest of us and actually has the ABILITY to contact Dini or Burnett or whoever is working on the live action BB screenplay, if you want to pass my idea along to them or somebody else you know that might have connections.

I think if the live action BB movie was both the start of a new Bat franchise (for non-bat fans) and also an answer to Bat fans prays (to know the fate of Grayson) then the BB movie could be amazing. Bat fans would go to see what happened to a character the animated series never emphasized on, and non-Bat fans would go to just see an action movie.

I think it's a great pitch to draw Bat fans who already know everything about the BB universe to the theaters.

I would definitely see BB the movie if I could find out what happened to Grayson.

So that's my idea,

Well, while that would be cool, it's a big possibility the BB movie may be shelved. It seems that the movie has been hitting rocky times and the director already has one foot out the door. WB has since put this movie beind the other Batman and Superman movies, putting it in 5th place behind SUPERMAN 5, BATMAN 5, BATMAN/SUPERMAN, and CATWOMAN. With the script in constant rewrites, who's to know if it';ll even be made.

Also, I can't see Grayson's future being revealed. First off, the movie is supposed to introduce the movie going public to the world of Batman Beyond, and the movie will be based on REBIRTH. I think throwing in the fate of characters that many of the movie going public wouldn't know could cause some confusion. Plus, if the film is supposed to be a "sequel" to the current franchise, then they won't say what happened to Nightwing becuase there was no Nightwing in the movies. BTW - This should be on the BB Board.

And behold, the two versions of the thread were indeed merged! --Maxie.

Personally, I doubt it. True, Burnett and Dini want to great as great a bat-movie as they can, but they need to do so while being as accessable to as wide an audience as possible. If they tried to delve into the "unanswered questions," they risk confusing the heck out of people who have never heard of Batman Beyond. And let's face it, there are legions more people who aren't familiar with BB than people who are.

So my (semi-educated) guess is that they'll create an entirely new continuity so they can gently introduce all the non-believers out there to BB.

I've already said now and again how I trust our heros behind the good parts of BB and how they'll make the movie work, WB jerks or not. But I think we're still missing the point of BB here.

Batman Beyond had it's problems, almost falling victim to the stupid teen drama thing that WB really wanted out of this show and all. And it's because of that we seem to forget something a lot. Batman Beyond is supposed to be Terry's time for development and exploring his character. I personally think it's supposed to be for ALL Batfans, no catagories. The Batman name is on there, so the Batman persona should flow from Bruce to Terry. It's easier said than done though, of course. Batman (Bruce) is truly THE loner of loners, so I'm sure his stories are difficult to duplicate in someone other than himself.

A small integrated side story about Dick would be cool, but I could understand if it's not there. Either way, I trust Burnett and Dini, and I'm sure we'll get a great movie.

I agree. If we ever get the chance to see a BB movie then I think Dick's fate will be the last thing on both the writer's mind and the audiences. I think you'll find the majority of the audience won't give two figs what Dick is doing - or who he is.

It will be the writer's job to bring BB to the dumb masses (if WB's record is anything to go by) and that will probably involve a whole rewrite to the BB origin. I don't think there will be room for Dick there. On films as complicated in premise (to an outsider) as this, it's best to keep it simple - just like Burton's Batman. One villian, one hero. No real flashbacks, simple story. Compare that to the over crammed sequels......
