as i have read through the posts, i have gathered that SP speed will have a crisper image and sound and will last longer than SLP. however, from what i have experienced, when i played my SP tapes, i can see that the magnetic tape will start to have vertical lines on it and to me it means that the tape is going bad. which leads me to believe that having stuff on SP will make the tape get worn out faster; thus, decreasing the quality of the image and sound when played a few more times. yet, having stuff on SLP will not have the sharpness of the image and sound but the tape does not seem to have the vertical lines that i was talking about eariler.
now am i way off or does recording stuff on SP have all the benefits (better picture, sound, tape will not go bad as quick).

Where are the lines if there are near the edges they are nothing to worry about it just means the track is the slightest bit off alignment. Now SP is better all arround for quility even though it put more ware on the tape since the tape goes faster it takes longer to go since the data is spread out more ie if you put a bend a part of the tape and put a krimp in it and it was recorded in SP you would see a second or so messed up in SLP is would be many seconds since alot more is held in the krimp.

I found all of my older Batman episodes (recorded in slp) in some box the other day and they still look and sound as good as they did in 1994. Same thing with all of the movies I've taped, so I'll continue to record on slp. It saves me money on tapes also.

Personally I'd record in EP if I could, the happy medium, but my VCR doesn't have that option and I think it's kinda hard to find a VCR with that speed option.

In case you didn't know, EP is the old term for SLP. They are the same thing.
