OK with the upcomming release of Apocalypse Now Redux (BTW I really loved Sam&Max and A!'s Parody of Apocalypse Now) I was wondering what everyones favorite war TV series is (since there are too many war flics for me to remeber)
Anyway here is mine
#1) Tour of Duty.... They did a great job showing military incometance like the ep where they captured the hill only to abondon it, only to have to go up and recapture it again, only to anondon it again, only to recapture it again and so on and the soilder that had enough and wasn't going to go up the hill again since he didn't want to die for nothing, he evenully did go up and got wounded since he realized that his buddies were risking their lives and they were worth dieing for. And discimination in many forms, drugs and other things like showing the humanside of the enemy like the EP where one of them gets temorarly blinded and need to use a caputred enemy (female) to get him back to the his lines Best part was the wounded VC they came arross and to the suprise of his guide the blinded american gave his rations to him. Oh then there is the ep where they are taking a prisoner back and he gets tortured and killed by the south Vietnamese and the hippie says he was an ok guy they are suppose to be better then that with the treating of prisoners and there was a line somewhere in that conversation which I forget the exact words but it goes like "That is what war is about killing people that you would get along with fine if you met them in the streets". Oh then there was the scene where the sarge was totaly happy about guarding the orphanage "Not every day I get to guard a bunch of kids and a nun" Then there was in my opinon the best ep where they saw what was left after the team before them slaughtered everyone in the vill. Oh when the hippy held his belif of not killing anybody (like Hawkeye in MASH) but by doing so one of his buds gets killed making him question his own ideology.
#2 MASH it touches most of what Tour of Duty does but actully has comic relief and more lighter.
#3 Gundam Hey what can I say, it does a good jod of being a war series with backstabing and mass distruction thrown in (ie the station drop) but it still seems a bit weak compared to the other 2 I mentioned IMHO and I'm talking about the old ones not Gundam Wing
