Catwoman not Selina in movie?

That's what it says at scifi.com, anyway. Straight from the directors mouth. Darn I can't find the link anymore. Anyway, he says he wants to get away from the way it's done in the comics and this is how. But then he goes on to say that she will be created the same way as in the comics and have the same struggle with becoming a criminal.

OK. Sounds pretty sucky to me. We had heard she wasn't going to be Selina and there was no Batman, this sounds like just another nail in the coffin of this movie.

there's a big report on this in the new page from a few days ago. if you ask me it sounds like crap. too bad, a selina kyle movie would rock, but oh well, what do you expect. with all the freeking superhero movie being made, chances are some will suck. oh well.

The character even has an idiotic name. Her name is, like, Patience Pride or something along those lines. Can you say "Ugh"? I bet we'll see this character introduced into the comics 6 months before the movie hits.

Perhaps. But then consider the portrayal of Selina in Batman Returns. It sucked. Michelle looked great in the suit, but that wasn't the Catwoman we know and love from the comics. Not even close. I think by using a different character, they're distancing themselves from the Batman Returns Catwoman, which is a good thing. Especially if they are going to keep her origin and struggles the same. We know Catwoman because of our familiarity with the Batman universe, but everybody else is going to be thinking of Batman Returns when they hear about the movie. In my opinion, that's bad and probably the reason for the switch in character.

I thougt she did a good job acting. She created alot of Oscar buzz wth her portrayel of Catwoman. But still, I can see the point of wanting to distance this Catwoman from the BR Catwoman.

I REPEAT: The Catwoman movie will be complete utter crap.

I don't care if Ashley Judd is staring in it.


It will suck worse than Batman and Robin.

You're right about her acting. She did a good job. But, I felt the character was not written well. Selina seemed out of it in the movie and I didn't care for the whole nine lives aspect. I would have preferred a more normal portrayal, like that of the comics.

Everytime a superhero movie is made, that will be a possibility. However, I don't see how that stance can be taken this soon, given that we really know nothing about the movie. I could be mistaken, but I think that Ashley Judd and the possibility of a new character are the only points we do know. That's not enough to praise or criticize the movie. We just don't have enough info.

I agree. It is a bit too early to think about how this film will play out. It could go down the road ofr B & R, or be a real cool crime/psycho drama.

She rules as the Queen of thieves of Gotham City:D I feel like scatching and mauling to death the man who came up with this idiotic idea of Selina not being Catwoman and making this movie sooooo boring (storyline wise).:mad:

Agreed, kylewayne. Selina IS and will always be Catwoman. I think this "new Catwoman" thing is a BAD idea... kinda like that draft of B:YO in another thread. I weep for the Batman franchise...

well, if i can play devil's advocate for a second, might i remind you that i'm sure we all felt Bruce Wayne IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE Batman, and look how much we've embraced terry as the new batman. soooooo, who knows about this new Catwoman.

on the other hand, bb is a series written by great writters who know the fans and the comics. the catwoman movie isnt. plus, bruce is in bb, and Selina probably wont be in the new movie. so while i still stand by my above post of this movie will suck, i felt the need to point out the parallels of the new catwoman and the new batman. but i still think the movie will rott, but hey thats just me. peace.

Again, I think it's much to soon to be saying that. We haven't heard any specifics on what the character is going to be like, so it wouldn't be right to condemn the movie. According to killercroc's post, which started this thread, even though the name is going to be different, the character's going to have the same origin and similar struggles. Don't we love characters based on the actual content, as opposed to simply a name, which is what 'Selina Kyle' is? The movie could use the name Selina Kyle, but still be a crappy movie. It's not the name of the character that determines how good a movie/story is, but the strength of the writing and the portrayal of the character or characters involved. Let's not be superficial in judging a movie. Let's wait until we have some actual content to judge.

You're right. But I suspect that part of the antipathy being expressed is due to familiarity with the story treatment killercroc alluded to. I don't have the link either, but I remember reading it and thinking that it was NOT a very good story.
