View Full Version : Why does G&E use the three short format?

Ever notice that Grim & Evil has three shorts per episode ala Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo? While the other cartoons like Powerpuff Girls, Time Squad, Robot Jones, Courage, and Ed, Edd, and Eddy use the two-short format. Does this format work the best with plots used in the series?

It really depends. Sometimes for "Toon Extra" Cartoon Network might need a short to fill in some time. I don't think the 11 minute episode idea can work with Grim & Evil.

I'd like the Dexter format better
7 minute first slot
4 minute second slot
----Commercial Break----
11 minute third slot

Mainly because there is a variety in sizes and it is great for fill-ins.

Most of the newer episodes of Cartoon Cartoons are using the two slot formula because they are running out of ideas. Notice how the PPG are sticking to one 22 minute short per episode.

In Grim & Evil I don't think they can keep you interested in the same plot for 11 minutes.

Anyway, Grim & Evil just started ,they have a whole lot of ideas. Wait, towards the end of the series I bet you'll find the two slot format.

The logic is pretty simple, actually. Let's say you've started watching a Grim & Evil cartoon, and you really HATE it. I mean, it's just making your skin CRAWL.

The good news is it'll be over pretty quickly and there will be two other G&E cartoons following it soon enough that you just may like.

Personally, I think this is why Evil Con Carne is not as well liked as Billy and Mandy in some circles. There were probably one too many two part episodes ("Tiptoe Through the Tulips" anyone?) that simply overstayed their welcome.

Would a Grim two-parter work out?

I think it all comes down to story. Personally, I love "The Smell of Vengeance." I think that's an excellent two part episode. It's epic in scope and has plenty of story/action/gags to carry it through a full 14 minutes. (It helps that Cod Commando makes me laugh so hard that I have to pee. "What?! Two General Skarrs?!")

As long as you had an "epic" Grim story to tell, you could easily get away with a Grim two-parter.

The short story format works well for their ideas.

ROBBOT don't boot up old Topics then don't reboot them again when nobody posts in it. Plus the Show is cancelled, So it probably won't happen unless for a finale.

Hmm if you wanted to talk about this you should've made another topic. Please nothing more than at least one month old.

No harm done, but......Closed
