This is kind of a weird topic, but there's something that I never got about "Betty Boop and Little Jimmy". What's with that whole "laugh and you'll go fat" thing? I mean, you don't really get fat by laughing, so why did it end like that?? :confused:

It's a twist -- albeit a bizzare one -- on the old thing about fat people supposedly being jolly (Coca-Cola came up with the now-ingrained image of Santa as the jolly fat man in a red suit in 1934, just about the same time this cartoon was being made).

I'll admit when I used to see this as a kid, the ending image of a 750-pound Betty Boop who got that way just by laughing was a bit unnerving, but the Flescher Studio, and even to some extent Famous Studios after that, were the undisputed masters at conjuring up unsettling images over the years...

Boy, I'm a pretty big kid and I ain't jolly! I'm irritable! :p

And that BB cartoon sounds weird. A perfect one to see.

Yup, it's a skrewi one, alright!

Max and Dave were the Kepler and Einstein of applied cartoon physics. ;)
