We have heard that Warner Bros. is remastering all LT/MM's for (hopefully) eventual DVD release. But does anyone know of any similar plans for the MGM cartoons? Or any other company for that matter?

I don't think any other company could, because of current copyright holdings. I have not heard of any plans.

Anyway, why would they need to remaster them? Unlike the "dubbed" and "A.A.P." versions of LT/MM cartoons, I have not seen any remaster notices. Of course they could find original title versions to the 1950s re-releases, but I don't see why. They still have proper credits.

I guess anything's possible, but I am of the thinking that every corporate buyout and merger that Warner Bros. was involved in before the AOL merger was done so that they can retain the rights to all of their Looney Tunes cartoons. Picking up the MGM cartoons in the Turner merger was just icing on the cake, so to speak.

Anyway, my point is that the Looney Tunes are the crowning jewels in the Warner Bros. animated crown, so it would be hard to say if they would give the same attention and treatment to other films they acquired that they didn't originally produce.

There was already a Tom & Jerry DVD released (and one of the cartoons on it was an edited-for-broadcast print), so it looks like Warner Bros. may not be really interested in doing anything special to the MGM shorts before releasing them.

I personally would love to see a nice Tex Avery DVD box set done, or *anything* involving Popeye, but I think I can speak for everyone in saying that the folks at Warner Bros. shouldn't rest until the Looney Tunes are ready for release. :)

I would love to see a MGM DVD set,but since even the "T&J" DVD had an edited cartoon on it I would get your hopes up.

Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies is what I'm crossing my fingers, toes, ears etc etc for.
