...in any event, thanks for correcting me on the title of the Popeye cartoon. In my now-deleted post, I had "Riot AND Rhythm" instead of the correct title, "Riot IN Rhythm".

LOVE AND CURSES – Pretty boring. RATING: 1.5 out of 5
DOGGONE TIRED - Damn that blasted bunny! Very good cartoon. My favorite parts was when the Dog choked the operator through the phone, and when he blew out a dynamite stick candle and it exploded on his mouth. The ending was hilarious, too. Was this a dubbed version, ‘cause it looked pretty dark (and I don’t mean just in the nighttime scenes). RATING: 4.5 out of 5
I’D LOVE TO TAKE ORDERS FROM YOU – Another boring one. Sorry, but I don’t really care much for these pre-40 one-shots. The idea of a scarecrow family had potential, though. RATING: 1 out of 5.
RIOT IN RHYTHM – I think this is a remake of ME MUSICAL NEPHEWS, but I like this one better. Maybe because I only saw the redrawn version of ME MUSICAL NEPHEWS, and the redrawn is pretty crappy. I just realized that when Popeye went crazy to the music at the end, he dribbled his lips. In the redrawn version of the original cartoon, it doesn’t look like he dribbled his lips, it just looked like he scratched his nose or something. Is it just me, or was something cut out at the end? It faded out pretty abruptly. RATING: 3.5 out of 5.
CABALLERO DROOPY – Strange to see a Droopy cartoon not directed by Tex Avery. Even without looking at the credits, I can tell Avery didn’t direct this, because the animation and style of the cartoon doesn’t seem Avery-like, but this is still good. With the Mexican theme, I’m surprised this was even shown. The second cartoon in a row today with a musical instruments theme. RATING: 3.5 out of 5.
THE WOODS ARE FULL OF CUCKOOS – Yet another one-shot, pre-40 cartoon, but I kinda liked this one. The celebrity caricatures were pretty funny, even though I didn’t know half of them. In the scene where Gracie Goose and Lily Swans were both singing, the goose’s beak wasn’t colored, then halfway through the scene, the animators must’ve realized their mistake, and they finally colored her beak yellow. I’m glad the Al Jolson caricature made it on the air. I really didn’t understand the cartoon’s ending, though. RATING: 2.5 out of 5.
I noticed lately that they air way too many one-shot pre-40 WB cartoons in these Acme Hours (I do like the Looney Tunes one-shots, though). Give me the later, zanier WB cartoons from the 40’s and 50’s, with some Tom & Jerry and Avery MGM’s, and maybe keep the pre-40 one-shots at a minimum to maybe one per day and I’ll be happy.
I felt a little wierd about deleting Hiphat's post when he didn't really instruct that it be deleted, so I copied most of what he posted...
Part One--One-shots
1. "Love And Curses" (WB, MM, dubbed)
2. "Doggone Tired" (MGM)
3. "I'd Love To Take Orders From You" (WB, MM, dubbed)
Part Two
4. "Riot And Rhythm" (Popeye, Paramount)
5. "Caballero Droopy" (Droopy, MGM)
6. "The Woods Are Full Of Cuckoos" (WB, MM, dubbed)
I found "Riot In Rythm" to be a really weak re-make, it just doesn't pack the punch of "Me Musical Nephews." The music wasn't as jumpy and loud.
I never cared for "Love and Curses," I've heard it compared to "The Dover Boys," but the quality of animation and comic timing of "Dover Boys" makes it more enjoyable. I found "Love and Curses" rather boreing. Also, it's design and animation were sort of sloppy compared to other Merrie Melodies of the same time and earlier too.

Feel weird? I thought the person who posted a show first got his post kept.
That was like someone posting The Looney Tunes Show at 9:59 AM, while someone else who posted it at 3:43 PM got their post kept.
It doesn't make sense!
The same thing happened another day, and it was dealt with properly.

Your post did get kept, but there have been times when (at least one I know of) where both posts were kept. I thought maybe Hiphats might have wanted what he typed, it isn't like I deleted your thread or devoted a whole post to that quote, I made comments about the Acme Hour too... I didn't have any second thoughts about deleting his thread when doing it, I usually copy a post before I delete it unless the author of the post requests that it be ignored or deleted (like the "books come to life" poll) It's just something I do...

"Love and Curses"
I knew it! CN has a Hardway/Dalton theme going on lately. Wonder which is next. Hare-um Scare em?
"Riot And Rhythm" is a huge improvement over the redrawn trash CN wants to air. They do show the original b/w "Me Musical Nephews" on some Toonheads episode. The original does seem to have better music and slicker animation. A true classic.
Best and Worst for the day:
Worst: "I'd Love To Take Orders From You" - Just unfunny, especially next to other Avery cartoons. At least it had original titles.
Best: "Doggone Tired" - For some reason, this is one of the only MGM Avery's I haven't seen. Note the huge contrast to the above cartoon. It's like there were 2 different Averys!

Actually, "Me Musical Nephews" has never aired on Toonheads (United States). The original B&W version of that cartoon has aired on LNB&W, though.

You can thank aap for the abrupt ending. I assume they cut it off because the Paramount logo appeared on the theater screen.

Sveven,
Actually, on the older (and better) Toonheads, they indeed did play the B&W version of "Me Musical Nephews" and "The Football Touchdowner", before being replaced with the redrawn version. Does anyone remember the Toonheads special, which honored the Academy Awards, with Oscar winning and nominated cartoons? I clearly remember it. I wish I still had it on tape. I remember the following aired on it:
"A Wild Hare"
"Yankee Doodle Mouse" (Tom & Jerry)
"The Dizzy Acrobat" (Woody Woodpecker, yes they did air this!)
"Walky Talky Hawky"
"The Poet and the Peasant" (Andy Panda, yes they did air this!)
"Tweetie Pie"
"For Scent-Imental Reasons"
"Little Johnny Jet"
"From A to Z-z-z-z-z"
"Speedy Gonzales"
"Bob's Birthday" (Canadian Cartoon)
"The Chicken from Outer Space" (Courage the Cowardly Dog)
Does anyone else remember it? It's the only time ever they played a Lantz, Canadian, and "Cartoon Cartoon" cartoon on Toonheads. The special was only played once, probably do to the Lantz shorts.

They also aired The Pink Phink, The Pink Blueprint (both DePatie-Freleng toons), La Salla (a Canadian short co-produced by John Lasseter), The Swooner Crooner, Greetings Bait...oh, a LOT of stuff.
