For the first time ever I sat in a seat for a concert last night. It was horrible. Hearing the music and not being able to thrash around and cause some damage. It was nice because the first band Deadsy was horrible. No one moved in the crowd. Everyone was just dead. They sucked. Almost as much as Mindless System of Indulgence but at least I had fun throwing things at them.

The second act was alright watching in a seat. They put on a good show. When you come after Deadsy anyone is going to sound great.

Then finally the headliners took the stage and I had to suffer watching people have fun down on the floor. **WEAPS CRIES SOBS**

We had killer seats. Don't get me wong. We were right where we needed to be to see the entire stage. We were close. We had good view of the vid screens. That's all great.

So to the heart of the question.

Is it better to watch from the stands or take part in the pitt?

Would you rather sit with your hands in your lap and watch a show or be down on the floor getting dirty?

I miss the heat. I miss the physical conflit. There was so much energy on the floor. I couldn't take it.

On the bright side there was plenty of hot and hardly dressed females sitting all around me. I also got to see some underage drinkers get busted. That was funny. I saw some retard hit his head on the rail in the first song, get knocked out, wake up and then start crying. He was crying during "Trash" I laughed at him. I laughed at these other guys that looked funny. I made fun of two girls that didn't move.

What fun is watching a concert from a seat? I could get the same effect looking at poster and listening to the cd at home.

I want to be down in the pitt knocking people into the ground :(

At least the ticket was free. Got to love silly little girls

Depends on the gig.

I went to see PJ Harvey at the London Hammersmith and had seats. It was just want I needed. I only like standing if I have to and this meant I could watch and listen in comfort without having morons trying to fly over my head..

Yet at Frank Black, I was very keen to get to the front (which with some pushing and shoving I did) I love getting up close and seeing them. Mr Bungle was great for the same reason - the crowd and the energy and seeing the guys up close.

So it does depend. Oh, and if I'm sitting down, I wear earplugs. Been at and doing too many gigs not to be aware of the damage so if I can, I'll wear them, if I'm on the floor - there is no way they will stay in...! Plus, the sound does actually sound better as you lose all the high and low frequencies which distort the music. Recommended!

Some concerts are actually better sitting down than standing. Some of smaller more intimate venues, for example. I went to a concert about six weeks ago and sat and enjoyed it. A great concert. And not too long ago I went to this loud, trashing, amazing concert where I trashed around for the whole 90 minutes.

I don't like ear plugs. They cheat you of the pure raw sound. I don't really go to easy listening music so I can see where something more calm would be alright sitting in a seat. It's just not for me. I think I would have had a lot more fun on the floor. I am factoring in the person I went with. She would have probably complained if I left her on the floor.

I don't enjoy the idea of earplugs, but I have been pleasantly surprised how they can affect the sound. Again, it depends on the type of band you go and see, if you are seated or not, and if you worry about your ears. I'm sure I've taken ear damage from gigs on and off stage so I'm inclined to use them if the gig is suitable - I won't ruin a good 'floor' gig for the sake of them - you have to live, but it is a sensible option and as I said, they can actually improve the sound in some cases..!
