heck..........just stay right here and I'll post the whole story on this message board:

Here it is:

<<<<<<WORLD'S FINEST - Batman & Superman Film to be Directed By DAS BOOT fella - Wolfgang Petersen!!!
Hey Folks, Harry here... Well here we go with yet another BATMAN/SUPERMAN project at Warner Brothers. Lorenzo and crew are determined to figure out something for their superheroes to do. Just a brief recap...
We have the Darren Aronofsky/Frank Miller BATMAN YEAR ONE project, which is a seventies FRENCH CONNECTION-esque Batman movie that uses the YEAR ONE concept as a jumping off point. But we know that Aronofsky is still a bit away while he pounds out his science fiction story on film...
Then we have the Jon Peters SUPERMAN LIVES/DIES/WHO CARES IT'S JON PETERS project, which inevitably will suck ass like a colon cleaner... Although by bringing Paul Attanasio on to write, it might work so long as Jon leaves him alone...
There was the BATMAN BEYOND - Boaz Yakin directing, Paul Dini, Alan Burnett and Neal Stephenson adaptation of the animated series for live action, which apparently fell apart with Boaz, last I heard.
Then there was the SUPERMAN/LOBO story treatment that Keith Giffen brought up and that I heard John Woo was interested in being attached to, but with John doing that TMNT flick, I don't know where this is.
Then there is an unknown BATMAN script that is allegedly being worked on by Paul Dini and Alan Burnett, which rumors say gets Batman out of Gotham and on a world wide adventure. And this is live-action...
NOW... VARIETY is telling the world that Andrew Kevin Walker (screenwriter of SEVEN, THE GAME, 8MM, SLEEPY HOLLOW, etc) is writing a WORLD'S FINEST script that would pair up SUPERMAN and BATMAN on an adventure which is to be directed by WOLFGANG PETERSEN!!!!
Now this project could be the long rumored secret George Clooney development/idea that he had, especially given George's friendship with Wolfgang Petersen.
So which of these projects is going to be made? Who knows? I'd say the attachment of Wolfgang Petersen is very promising, as he is known for making projects that he is attached to, unlike many directors that you hear attached to dozens of things and then you never see those films coughspeilbergcough....
Well that's a lot for you to chew on my friends... We'll see in time which of these comes to pass... For my money though, just give me John Milius' Wachowski produced KING CONAN - CROWN OF IRON, that's what is good in life!>>>>>

Gpoliceman here again. I am ACTUALLY thrilled about this. I once heard of a rumored World Finest movie where it was Batman VERSUS Superman and Batman was the villain. I WAS UPHAULED with that idea because I felt portraying Batman as a villain would once again show Hollywood knows CRAP about the Batman character.

I'm happy this reports that Batman and Superman work together. That leads to some exciting speculation on who the VILLAINS will be? Maybe the Joker might return after all, huh?

Anyhow, Wolfgang Petersen's last film was THE PERFECT STORM for those of you that don't know.

I LOVE THE SCREENWRITER. THE SCREENWRITER OF THIS FILM IS PROBABLY THE BEST BET FOR A SOLID BATMAN (AND SUPERMAN) MOVIE!

WE SHOULD ALL PRAY THIS IS TRUTH

I for one would like to see Batman: year one get made as well.

Gpoliceman out.

Sounds like empty rumours. If indeed they are geninely planning a 'World's Finest' movie (which I personally doubt as they can't get the previous seperate projects of the ground let alone a combined one) than they are going to have several changes to the production crew by now and any tangable release date.

Lessee:
Batman Beyond
Batman: Year One
Superman Lives
World's Finest

This sounds like Warners is playing the percentages. They have a lot of choices and opportunities and are not sure which is the right way to go with their superhero franchises, and so are throwing a lot of possibilities around to see what works. With this much activity on so many fronts, there may be a chance of something good coming out but there's no way we're going to get all of these.

Surely not Neal Stephenson who wrote Snow Crash? Anyone know? As you can tell from my sig, I'm a fan!

I've heard that same rumor about the Supes vs. Bats movie. Do you think it could be a mixxed up rumor involving The Dark Knight Returns?

That's an interesting observation, but it scares me. If WB is that uncertain about which way to go, what are the chances of actually getting a good movie released? After B&R, I would think the best approach would be to pick one of those possibilities (the sooner the better) and put all the effort into making one hell of a movie. If they can't even single out the project, how can they put together a solid script?

Also, what about Catwoman? Nobody's mentioned that yet. Ashley Judd's was reported some months ago as having the part. That's still on, right?

That's the danger, of course. But in principle there is nothing wrong with the approach. "If I were running the studio" (as another thread has it) I'd probably try the same thing at this point in the franchise's history: Spread a lot of development money around on a lot of different Batman projects, see which one(s) showed the strongest initial potential, and then concentrate on building up on that foundation.

Really, running a studio is like playing the lottery (scriptwriter William Goldman: "The first rule of the movie business is, NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING!") and the idea is to spread your investments across a range of projects of differing types. That's why no studio will specialize in comedies, or historical epics, or superhero fantasies, etc. That's why I wonder if Warners is trying the same approach at the development stage with the Batman franchise.

I am just about to start a new thread about that based on what I read at Scifi.com. It doesn't sound good!
