It's here! The review of the next two tapes follows shortly.

(Note- if you haven't read my earlier review about Volumes 1 and 2, I strongly advise you do now at http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31608 )

Together, both tapes cover Tom and Jerry cartoons from 1946-1950. I was very nervous when I bought these for £7.97 each yesterday. Volumes 1 and 2 contained all uncut cartoons and all but one had undubbed voices. The adverts promoting 3 and 4 showed very high quality clips from the cartoons- if they were from the video, they must be from the CN restored, edited and dubbed prints. And would 'The Little Orphan' be without those two annoying splices on, to cover up something the people at Cartoon Network and Cartoon Network UK don't want you to see?
Yes. And, well, no.
You see Volume 3 didn't live up to Volumes 1 and 2 in the sense that all offensive material was edited, except for 'Mouse Cleaning' and 'Kitty Foiled', which are already uncut on Cartoon Network UK. :( The maid's voice wasn't dubbed in any of the Volume 3 cartoons, but the jokes in two cartoons were. I'm talking about the scenes in 'A Mouse In The House' and 'The Truce Hurts' which are the ones that I have never seen a picture of the genuine article. Although I could have sworn I remember seeing a clip of that 'The Truce Hurts' scene before many years ago, but that's beside the point.
There were, however, a few good surprises. The print of 'Solid Serenade' removes a sound error that is present in the new CN print (Just reply and ask if you want to know what it is), and 'Old Rocking Chair Tom' has the original 'Take good care of old uncle Tom' line.
Volume 4 (1948-1950) was better.
A lot better.
The first cartoon on the tape was 'Polka Dot Puss' which had the original voice of the maid.
Or did it?
Because the CN print in the UK also has the original voice. But this print has a completely different voice on it, a more Stereotypical one. But I'm 100% sure that none of them are redubbed. Strange.
The next cartoon was 'The Little Orphan' and it had the Gene Deitch MGM lion card at the start! Why?
Because it was uncut! Well, it was actually the 1970s redraw where Tom still has his headdress on after the candle burns him, but it was great to finally see it in the flesh.
More surprises came along the way. 'Saturday Evening Puss' was the 1960s teenager version with the original voice. And 'Texas Tom' started at the Tom and Jerry logo for some reason..
I'm giving these tapes 4 out of 5 Bosko's again, but for completely different reasons. :bosko: :bosko: :bosko: :bosko:
If they are planning to do Volumes 5 and 6 and beyond, I say good luck to them. Many, many Tom and Jerry's would be made in the next 4 years. They would have to do a lot do get up to 1958!

And that's it for now. The press release is at this site- http://www.noblepr.co.uk/Press_Releases/warner/tom_jerry_3_4.htm. Note- since this page was made the cartoons on the video changed slightly. Volume 3 should have 'Mouse Cleaning' as the last cartoon, and Volume 4 now has 'Jerry and The Lion' and 'Safety Second' on the end.

Comments, please!

"Since the first compilation videos were released in February this year, the sales of the classic Tom & Jerry volumes have gone from strength to strength with the tapes literally flying off store shelves. Tom & Jerry: Volumes 3 & 4 continued on the path of sales success selling 25,000 units in the first month alone."

I'm resurrecting this thread to tell you that Tom and Jerry Volumes 5 and 6 will be here in the UK in 5 DAYS!

Here is the press release. You will be pleasantly surprised..

Wow, even though I have all of the Tom and Jerry cartoons (all are uncut, 90% are logo free), it seems like you guys in the UK are getting quite a deal! Those covers look really nice too... :D
