What's to stop Cable from playing what ever they want when they want.
MTV 2 had a special where they had cursing, drug use and naked females. (Uncensored videos Specials)
South park had that episode where they said The S word alot. I mean granted it was aired late at night, but I'm saying why not just put up Disclaimers at night and air Dogma Uncut. I know they can do it if they want so why not ?
MTV has had specials about Breast Surgery and have shown before and after shots, and had that Scared Straight Specail, which I don't have to explain.
You could say education purposes are special but what was special about what MTV 2 and South Park did ?
So again I ask, what's stopping cable from going nuts ? I mean the way I see it, Adult swim could really be Adult swim.
CN has a strict Bureau of Standards and Practices, the BS&P. They control what can and can't be shown on the network. So far, nothing over TV-14 has been shown, and even a lot of the stuff that's been edited to TV-14 seems a very "soft" TV-14. The first thing coming that's going to stretch the limits is Rejected.
Now, besides the BS&P, there's also a little issue of sponsorship. The kind of stuff you've mentioned turns away a lot of sponsors, and without commercials a cable network that is ad-supported will go bankrupt. So some of it is to keep the sponsors happy.
But as you say, all of the instances you mentioned were special events, and also carried TONS of disclaimers. A weekly program block is a bit of a tighter restriction in general, as if something that really offended people was playing every week, it would get a significantly larger amount of attention than a one-time special.

The only thing stopping Comedy Central/MTV from airing hardcore porno is the fact that advertisers would leave them. If they want to make money, they have to stay in a certain boundary of what their advertisers would allow.

Thenw hy not pull in Advertisers to fit that Demo, and I'm not saying do it all the time I'm just saying use it when it's needed.
Dogma kinda needed to be shown Uncensored and it would have drawn a crowd.

That's what the WWF thought, too. Ultimately, all of the big companies don't want the controversy. Yes, they still found advertisers, but I'm sure they had to lower their rates to get them.

Too bad that televission today is controlled by the advertisers. Television is supposed to sell something other than the actual show :( .

Wow, I totally didn't know that- I find that very interesting. So seriously- cable networks don't have to edit movies for content if they don't want to? How cool is that? I had no clue.
I can see what you're saying about advertisers, but it really suprises me that more cable stations don't take advantage of this- I mean, if they cut down the commercials they could practically compete with HBO (well, of course not really, but you catch my drift).
Wow, this is a stunning relevation. Oh well. Back to my normal, boring life.

Well uh, the point of televison really is the commercials. We watch the shows, the shows get us to stay for advertisements, we go buy what we saw during the commercial... repeat cycle.
The advertisers pay for everything. I say screw commercials and go right for huge obvious product placement.
Imagine it an actual 30 minute show, actors wear brand name clothes of sponsors, drink sponsored soda... etc. Yeah it'll eliminate alot of jobs, well really mine since that's one of the career paths I'm leaning torward but uh.. nevermind. I don't want to be poor.
Anyway, Game I only realized that fact when watching Cable Access TV, there was this lady talking and she said that really you can show anything you want on TV, If it wasn't for Advertisers, So because Cable Access is paid for by the people who make it can't be censored. Which is why people who support the KKK have forums, they show actual Hardcore porn in between segments of this talk show I saw once, unfiltered cursing, Devil Worship stuff and just about anything you can think of. All this is protected by the ammendment, and theys ay If you have a problem with it basicly, make your own show and complain about it.

Interesting to note: the young women in this documentary displayed their breasts frequently to the camera, but we (the viewers) were only allowed to see them when a doctor was present in the scene. At all other times, they were fogged over.

I'm not a regular Mtv viewer and never saw those shows so I can't say too much. I just know they show unedited stuff on Discovery channel, but that's more educational shows.
I agree though they should be able to run shows more uncensored late at night.
Speaking of uncensored, has anyone here caught The Shield on the Fox channel? The cable Fox, not regular Fox. That show has quite a bit of stuff for a regular show, and isn't half bad.
