View Full Version : Coyote eating the Roadrunner...
For the life of me, I can't recall if this has been discussed here, so tell me it has been covered. Anyway, everyone knows the Coyote catches the RR in "Soup Or Sonic," but every so often I hear rumors of a cartoon in which the Coyote actually catches and eats the roadrunner on screen, in graphic detail. I know it's not true, but I still find it interesting. I've heard several different stories, one being that Warner Brothers made the cartoon for the army to boost morale in Vietnam, but never released it to the public. The other being that an animation student made the cartoon to show at college campus theaters. It plays out like an average Road Runner cartoon until the last trap actually works and the Coyote finally eats him. All stories involve the theater goers being shocked at first, but then cheering and clapping for the Coyote.
Anyway, if a student did make such a film, he'd have to be really quite good to trick a bunch of people into thinking it's a real WB short, to make the ending that much more shocking. Personally, I think the only way to pull it off would be to take an already made cartoon, then, just before the last trap backfires, reanimate it to go right. Not only would it seem convincing up until the end to people who may have never seen the cartoon (but knows what the series is like), it will shock those who knew how it originally ended. Otherwise, you'd have to be pretty ambitious, wealthy, and quick to make a whole short that looks like the genuine article, even if you tried to only immitate the later non-Jones efforts.
Anyway, like I said before, I know it doesn't exist, and the thought of seeing a bloody Road Runner is sort of gross...

Welllllll... There was a poster made showing Wile E. having caught Speedipus Maximus. He clutches his fowl body and says "Beep, beep your ___!!"

--I do recall seeing a a novelty T-shirt years ago with Wile E. holding the Roadrunner by the throat, saying, "Beep-beep, yer [butt]!" But an actual animated short? Sounds like something one'd read at www.snopes.com. Ask RockItShipper; she's an animation student at CalArts and might have heard something along that line. Actually it sounds rather like something she'd do (and I'd write the script for.... :p )

And it would undoubtedly show with the (very real) "Rabbit Habit" [which showed all the main Warner characters doing drugs].
The T-shirt was identical to the poster by the way.

That image is horrible! Who would draw such a thing? And who would actually APLUADE to the Coyote eating the Road Runner? Someone who has a sick mind? Besides, who would want to see something like that image? I'm erasing my history, so I'll never have to look at that again!

Sorry Thad but I thought the picture was quite funny, imagine if kids had seen that cartoon-LOL
Its just like something "South park" or "The simpsons"(Newer episodes) would do!

The image I was thinking of wasn't that graphic, just the Coyote holding the bird by his skinny neck and looking him in the eye. I think it was also a novelty bicycle license plate. I'm sorry I didn't have the money to buy it then, as that shop closed down years ago.... :(

Slug Signorino (the man who does the cartoons for the Straight Dope column) seems to be quite insane. ALL of his illustrations are in that vain.
I imagine legends like this go around because it's something some people want to see.

Yeah, Thad, that's actually pretty tame by Signorino's standards. Usually he can work in nudity and/or excrement, but in this one he slipped. Sorry I shocked you.

I have been asked that question many times from my site. I suppose there COULD be a fake Road Runner cartoon somewhere, like an underground bootleg someone did by reanimating the ending to an original cartoon. I seriously doubt that Chuck Jones or Rudy Larriva would ever animate a gruesome end to the Road Runner. It could be one of 3 things, the first is that it doesn't exist, the second is that it was someone creating new footage to be funny, and there's always the possibility that a "gag reel" was made that was thought to be lost, like that Porky Pig "S.O.B." clip. Whatever, I'm sure it's been tried, even I made an image with the coyote catching the Road Runner using clipart once, but I've never seen anything animated...hmmmm....;)

Even though I not the biggest fan of the Roadrunner/Wile E. Coyote Cartoon, that image is cold. Really cold.

That picture was really sickening! Just like the rhyming comics, it gives the Roadrunner a bad name. How that even got to be drawn is beyond me.
The thought of it happening to my favorite character team! That's like Sylvester eating Tweety, or Elmer Fudd eating Bugs Bunny. Let's hope that website doesn't get a lot of hits.

Yeah, the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote have always been my favorite. I've seen some comics that had crude drawings of the Road Runner and Coyote, but they weren't as graphic as that one. They were quite funny, however. They're at the end of Chuck Jones' CHUCK AMUCK.
Road Runner's Answering Machine:
"We are sorry, the Road Runner is out right now, but please leave your name and number after the beep. Beep!Beep!Beep!Beep!Beep!Beep!Beep!Beep!Beep!"
Wile E groans on the other line.

Also, I've been asked this many times through my website, along with the following most asked questions to my site:
1)-What was the name of that orange monster? (one guy wanted to know it, so he could get extra points on a test! :p )
2)-What was the name of that dopey eagle?
This rumor about Wile E. Coyote eating the Road Runner is becoming as big and phony as the rumors of Porky Pig and Daffy Duck being more than just friends in "Porky Pig's Feat" and as the shower scene in "The Wabbit Who Came to Supper". I guess the rumors got big because they're stuff people want to see, why I don't know. They're possibly sick, perverted people....
-Thad:D
I didn't like that illustration too much either. I guess none of you have seen the tatoo design with Taz holding Bugs' head, if you didn't like that coyote illustration, then the Taz one will give you nightmares. Yuck...

THIS IS A DISGRACE TO CLASSIC CARTOONS!
Sure it's funny to do something like that to them, but what about the newer cartoons? I'm sure if they showed characters off Nicktoons and Cartoon Cartoons doing these things, the artists would get fifty law suites against them. Besides, did this guy even get a licensed to do this? Hmmm, I'm sure somebody at WB would like to here about this.....
However, does anyone here remember how Popeye lost his copyright in the 70s? My dad says he saw pictures of Popeye doing LOTS of dirty things....

Hmm...I'm not sure about the Popeye copyrights (Poppyrights?) but "dirty" Popeye comics have been around about as long as Popeye himself, UNauthorized of course. Same with Betty Boop and other '20s/'30s cartoon/comic characters.
And I agree, that's a NASTY Road Runner image!
Same with Peanuts, people have been known to tape panels here and there to make a sick version of it... And has anyone seen the window sticker of Calvin relieving himself on a car symbol (usually ford)?

Actually, I do have a stuffed animal licensed by Warner Bros. through play-by-play and Ace Novelty Co. (yes, it exists, but is in Texas, not Walla Walla) that is Sylvester with bird feathers around his mouth like he's eaten Tweety. He has an expression on his face that suggests he has indigestion, either that or he's cringing because Granny is about to hit him. It's about a foot tall and I won it out of one of those "Claw" machines.

Back in the early days of the Bugs Bunny Burrow site, before it became primarily a store, I saw an animated GIF of the Coyote standing there, grabbing the Road Runner as he's running by, and chewing him. Not sure if it's still available on the net. It's pretty much equally gruesome, if not more. The characters were much better rendered, and the color made it more dramatic IMO.

Actually...
if anyone knows of a source for the Calvin 'Piss on it' decal, pls advise - been looking (kinda) for years
we won't mention the 'Calvin kneeling and praying before a cross' item I saw the other day - it gets the 'unclear on concept' award for at LEAST the year..

Perhaps he was trying to be good for Christmas, so Santa will give him stuff.
The only place I've ever seen the Calvin takes a whiz decal is at a huge outlet sale in Milwaukee a while back. It was held in the convention center. If I recall right, there were lots of varieties, he relieved himself on Chevy logos, Ford logos, ect. Other than that, I've never seen one for sale since they are illegally made. (the only legal Calvin and Hobbes merchandise are the books).

Is Calvin saying "Please Lord forgive me for peeing on everybody"? I saw one like that on the window of an old VW in the grocery store parking lot.

I've also seen ones of him peeing on the logos of college football teams, the White House, and Bill Clinton.
I think there was also a generic one, sort of an "insert symbol of choice" version.

There's also one of those truck decals that has Taz ripping a logo in half...I've seen a Ford, Chevy, and Texas A&M Aggies version. I have also seen one with Speedy Gonzales and one with Road Runner, but they don't do anything cool, just clipart poses. That Calvin peeing thing has been around a long time, almost as long as the bumper sticker that says "Keep honkin', I'm reloadin'", or "My son can beat up your honor student!" And what about those Tweety-head air-fresheners...it seems like every old beat up car or truck in Texas has to have that one on their car mirror.

I went into a NASCAR store a couple years back. They had dozens of variations of the Calvin decal covering part of one wall. Maybe you have one in the "Bay Area".
But what's so unclear about the praying before a cross decal? Not every car decal shows "attitude". Some try to convey positive messages and this person is showing a belief in the power of prayer. You may not agree with the concept, but it is not difficult to ascertain. Seems a bit odd that it was fine to laud the Darwin fish symbols the other day (which were a response to religious fish symbols), but when they turn the tables and make a positive parody of one you like, well the meaning is suddenly unclear...
FWIW, I think both types of Calvin decals are just fine (I actually saw a car the other day with one "good" Calvin AND one "bad" Calvin), but there are no fishes or decals on my cars. ;)

I used to have a T-shirt when I was younger with Taz coming out of my stomach(Like he'd span his way through my body)! It was offical and everything.
It was like my favourite T-shirt and I used to always wear it on school outings and stuff like that,I miss the shirt :(

In The Green Mile, Stephen King makes a ref to a 20's era "hot-comic" showing Popeye and company doing things I can't mention here...so it seems people didn't give a g.d. about copyrights long before the seventies....
Yes, I've seen the decals showing Calvin relieving himself on sports and car logos, as well as T-shirts. And of course who can forget the old redneck standard, the Yosemite Sam mudflap? :p

OK -
How many can imagine Calvin, of all people, being pious?
Susie, sure - but the only thing I can imagine Calvin 'praying' for would be something involving destruction and violence - not the sort of thing most christians associate with prayer.
Fly whatever flags you like, just get the image right...

Even the image itself is a bootleg, as Bill Watterson has never drawn Calvin in such a manner (and franky, the whole concept of the image goes completely against Calvin's character...but try telling that to rednecks who think he's Bart Simpson).
A quick addition to the list of official "Calvin and Hobbes" products, there were also two calendars made which simply featured the Sunday comics from the early books.
For comic strip fans, I cannot recommend enough the "Calvin and Hobbes Tenth Anniversary Book" which features a "running commentary" from Bill Watterson. He's very insightful and it's interesting to read about his battles over licensing and the size for Sunday strips.

I never saw the Pious Calvin, but I see whiz Calvin everywhere as well. As for illegal merchandise, I saw a C&H shirt that had an image of our two heros dancing (from the Sunday strip where Calvin plays orchestra like a rap, and has PJs and sunglasses on) but had a positive saying on it; I forget that saying, but it was a nice one....a change from the usually dirty quotes...
MORE offical merchandise: There were three tiny, little scholastic like books that divided up the first book's strips between them.
I do NOT want to see the Road Runner image. That, as Thad said, is an INSULT to the cartoons...
B.B., the biggest Calvin and Hobbes fan...
