This is my first time on this forum, but ive been reading threads fr about a month. I noticed no one has opinions on the MIB series. I liked the series. It makes me mad its gone. what do u guys think about the series & it being canned?

Personally, I enjoyed some of the later seasons episodes alot more due to the better animation. I do hope that the show is brought back after MIB2 is released. Hopefully, we'll be able to see MIB: The series on CN soon!

You apparently missed some threads; MIB is an honored member of the KWB toon fraternity. Not too long ago, a couple of experts on the subject made their presence known; their names are Avran & Delia. And I thot I knew something about the series. Next to them, tho, well, let's just say that I'm J & they're K & L.

It's a great series and I'm really hoping that CN will put it into reruns. The later seasons were good, season 2 beinbg the best. Season 4, while good, I thought was too bright and mediocre at best.

Oh, yeah. MIB on CN. Was there such speculation 4 years ago re. Earthworm Jim? I hope it doesn't disappear like EwJ, but until I see it...

...and I'm the optimist among us. I'm glad I taped all the eps, well, almost all of them.

Hi Printo! ^_^ I'm always glad to meet another fan of MiB. I really enjoyed the series, and am disappointed to find out that there will be no more episodes. But I am happy that it was successful as it was - cartoon adapations of movies generally don't do very well, and MiB lasted for four seasons!

It looks like MiB won't be shown on Kids' WB next season, so I would like to see it picked up by another station. It would be cool to see it on Cartoon Network (which I don't get :() and Teletoon (a Canadian station).

I'll just see if anyone here hasn't been to our pages, lol.

I've noticed a lot of switcheroo going on in the first X episode.... if you watch X's hands and mask, wait till they get to the garage.

X has alien face... but human shaped hands that are green. His hands then go to human flesh colored and i think back to green again before settling. Of course he started out with alien and green hands when he made the remark about fingerprints on crystal....

hehe

i know too much

DR. BELCH
08-10-2001, 12:39 PM
As I recall, his hands are normally larger than a human's, green, and have two huge fingers and a thumb. So he has to wear human skin-like gloves in the field--which must be painful, humiliating, and make it impossible to hold things or do delicate work with his fingers. Not to mention how much that mask must pinch his ears....

Delia97: ...and I look like L too!
Lucky girl! [wolf whistle] I resemble Wolverine from X-Men myself. The character L is the spitting image of the actress from the movie, except she's inexplicably gone blonde (the movie L was a brunette).

They've got to get the show on at a better time. In some areas it's on at six a.m., in others, it airs around one in the afternoon or so, during my online time. So I haven't actually watched the show since the two-part finale weeks ago....now that's just sad. :(

Zebi
08-10-2001, 02:12 PM
Actually, if you look at the picture of X on the official site's profile for him, he has three fingers (not two) and a thumb. Either way, those gloves must hurt.

However, I don't think his ears would hurt too much. It looks like the hair style was designed to cover them, so maybe it's not too unpleasant?

http://www.meninblack.com/theseries/agents/agent_x.html

I agree with you on MiB needing to be on at a better time, though. I'm lucky that WPIX and KTLA, the stations that I watch MiB on, air them in the afternoon. 2 pm and 5:30 pm aren't too bad as times for them, since I usually work midnight shift, and can watch them when I get up in the afternoon. Perhaps you could program your VCR so that you can tape MiB? I wish my VCR was working properly, or I'd have a ton of episodes by now. Luckily, I found someone who sent me most of first season and a few from second season.

DR. BELCH
08-10-2001, 03:42 PM
--it begs the question of how he moves the other one or two digits. Though I've seen a six-foot alien stuff himself into a rat suit on the show as well, so....eh.

Avran:
...I don't think his ears would hurt too much. It looks like the hair style was designed to cover them, so maybe it's not too unpleasant?
The way he grouses constantly, one must wonder. If he folded his lobes flat against his skull, maybe they wouldn't pinch too much, although if his race sweats I'd worry about chafing under that hot mask. Note his favorite insult for humans is "little ears", so obviously he doesn't think much of Earth people.
I figured the Alien Rights Comission head deserved a good swift kick in whatever aliens have for butts for saddling MIB with a guy like X...though I was pleased to note he took a more heroic role in "Engame Syndrome". Plus he complimented Madame President Generic on her hairstyle, which shows his mother taught him manners. :)
IMO, the fourth season of MIB was a shade under the first three. There was a lot of emphasis on the worms, for better or worse, and I got the feeling the writers were getting sloppy and thinking, "How can we make J look like a horse's butt this week?" If it wasn't Zeeltor being a thorn in his side with some invention that blew up on him, zapped him, or dyed his hair a funny color, it was some rookie blunder, like eating that sauce in "Hots for J Syndrome". (Though honestly, I'd have made the same error, with my love for spicy food--in my review I blamed the caterer for not labeling the bowl.)
As for WPIX (NY) and KTLA (CA), I get them too, though I frequently forget they moved MIB to a new slot, nixed some things, and moved others. With the finale having aired and the show in reruns, they lost the plum Saturday slot to Zeta.

lol i knew the day would come when we'd seriously try to figure out how X or any aliens fit into the disguises they had.... lol

Zebi
08-10-2001, 09:31 PM
Delia: I'm guessing that they made Elle blonde since her voice actor, Jennifer Lien, was also blonde. If you've I've noticed that some other cartoons do the same thing, making the character resemble the voice actor to a certain extent.

Also, if you've ever seen a picture of Charles Napier, Zed's voice actor, you'll notice quite a resemblance! That has to be the only reason why Zed's appearance changed so drastically in the transition from movie to cartoon.

Dr. Belch: You have to admit, X has it much better than that rat alien, since he only has a mask and gloves - I just sat there scratching my head wondering how the heck he shrunk himself down to fit into that rat suit.

I agree that Season 4 wasn't the greatest. I do like the Worms, but they shouldn't have based so many episodes around them. Actually, my favourite episodes from Season 4 were the ones involving X, particular faves being "The Musical Chairs Syndrome" and "The Bad Boys, Bad Boys Syndrome" (gotta love a Cops parody!).

BTW, I just had to change my avatar. I know how much Delia despises X. She hates anything to do with him, and esp. anyone who suggests that he & Elle would make a cute couple!

I thought this series was some of the best of the Kids WB line up in it's grand ol' days. I am sorry to see it gone. I am hoping they put out the episodes on DVD, of course. They already put out a VHS collection, so hopefully that isn't an unrealistic hop

Dee

and I did notice the characters look alikes to an extent. It took me a while. Most looked okay, it was just the blonde hair that suprised me.

DR. BELCH
08-11-2001, 10:36 PM
--to finally find some MIB fans, esp. with the show mothballed. I like to search out inaccuracies in the eps, and even in a good show like this, they can be seen by a perceptive eye. Like: in one episode K mentions sub-zero weather kills worms, yet in another the four coffee-guzzlers are frozen with no ill effects.
I've also wondered how the MIB would go about neuralizing a blind witness, or someone with only one good eye...or, noticing how often Frank eats things he oughtn't to, why K doesn't think to carry around a small bottle of ipecac along with all his fancy alien gear?
Little things I ponder from time to time.... :D

Dee
08-12-2001, 07:32 AM
well, neuralyzers emit the light energy that goes in through the eyes and reguardless (did I even spell THAT right?) of wether they're blind or not, alters their memory patterns. lol

and 1 eyed people can witness alien activity as well as anyone. lol Blind people can hear it too. LOL

i dunno about the worm thing. It's like star wars. Hoth will kill even tauntauns and nearly gets luke, but Han manages to survive the carbon freezing. Im guessing the icers (or whatever caused it... i have never had WB so i dont know what goes on) froze kinda like the carbon freezing would.... it would be suspended animation.

im guessing it's so fast that there's no time for damage.

Calhoun07
08-12-2001, 10:03 PM
Isn't that basically the same thing as doctors freezing sick people for hope they can eventually revive them and cure what's wrong with them? Yet people die of hypothermia. I guess it's not that you're frozen, it's HOW you are frozen that matters if you can be made to live again or not.

Dee

I think what Delia might be talking about is the stories that Chanda, one of the list members on my MiB mailing list, posts. Delia's not a big fan of romance between the characters, and that's what Chanda has written in a few of her stories.

If I'm guessing correctly, the particular story that has Delia going is part 16 of Chanda's "The California, Here We Come Syndrome" story, which picks up after the Endgame Syndrome episode. The agents move out to California while the NY headquarters are being rebuilt, and most of them end up having to live in tents on the beach. This chapter deals with an accident in a co-ed shower. :p

If you'd like to take a look at any of the stories, you can dig through the archives of the mailing list (they're accessible to the public):

Usually only human agents get quick-clones...I thought, in fact, only human DNA could be cloned this way, until J sent worm q.c.'s off into space in the ep the little javachuggers were deported for allegedly draining the water from the cooling tanks in the MIB nuclear reactor. I wonder if Zed's ever censured L for using them for personal use in the lab when she wants to sleep in?

I've noted this before, but with only 26 letters in the Earth alphabet, doesn't that limit the number of agents that can be active at a given time? Unless they use the Spanish alphabet (29 letters), cuneiform (over 600), or some alien system we don't know about. Also, if an agent dies or leaves MIB, is his letter retired as well or given to a future rookie?

Odd to note they don't dub "Pinky" in Spanish. In my latest FanFic, the mice travel to Mexico, and Brain addresses his friend at one point as Rosadito ("little pink").

The Princess Diaries is really just Pretty Woman meets My Fair Lady, from what I've seen in previews.

Dee

on the subject of agent names, I've found what theyve done in Dean Wesley Smith's books to be cute.

The two members of cleanup we come to know very well are Captain and Pro.

They have agent initial names, but are just known as and called Captain and pro.

Before life as a MIB, Pro was a Pro Golfer. The name Pro works.

Captain likes being called that because he's a trekkie. It works, and Ive found it to be halarious! I love those 2 characters because they are known to inhale burgers and fries from Burger King like it was the end of the world!

Im sure they go and name the agents offically by their initial and they have a MIB identification number (theres another word for it but my mind misplaced it) and im guessing of 2 agents of the same name are around they just call em something.

So far, I've noticed Agents A (Alpha), B, C, E, H(theoretical), J, K, L, P, Q, T, U, X, & Zed (British-Canadian, no doubt). What of the rest of the alphabet? Anyone I've missed? I don't think there's been an Agent N yet, which would be the handle I'd want if I ever had an odd fantasy about joining.

Are you thinking of the Carte Noire, from the MiB website? Those have an idenfication number on them, as well as the agent's letter. I noticed that you have one on your page.

If I use my real name, Jennifer, then I end up as an "Agent J" - I think I'll take the nickname route, like Captain and Pro.

C'mon! Do you think Al Gore would Beat Weird Al? Apparentally on MTV they root for loser political figures instead of muscisians.

of course, in the X files... when ever you hear about the MIB it's always the government-ish evil Urban Legend MIBs and not the ones we know. I find these more entertaining than ones that just go around killing people, threatening them or generally acting like robots. lol

My name is a pathetic name and im not happy...I feel pain for all the girls who have names like this. Aron.
Oh, that's a lovely name! It's a feminization of "Aaron", which is a Biblical name...and also Elvis' middle name (my brother's too, but my dad always said the one had nothing to do with the other, though his mom was a big fan of The King).

What was the nerd's name in that ghostbusters movie?
The nerd played by Rick Moranis was Louis (or Lewis, I'm not sure of the spelling). He became Janine Melnitz's new love interest and later turned up in the animated Saturday morning series. Must watch that one again; I'm blanking on the ending.

I wouldn't worry on the V thing. I figure for each letter there are two agents--male and female (though note that there are very few women field agents). So a lady V in wardrobe and a male V in the field would make sense. So now we can have 52 agents, twice as many as I originally calculated.
It seems to me J would be a pretty common letter at MIB, with any number of Jameses, Johns, Josephs, Jills, and Janes out there. My real name also begins with J, so I suppose I'd have to use the first letter of my middle name--thus, Agent M.
There was an agent mentioned in "Hots for J" that presumably died after eating at a Geeda'ang buffet, but his letter escapes me. K's response to J leads me to believe his letter never was reissued.

Agent Jay's weapon fired backwards? I doubt it.
Maybe not one he was familiar with--but in one ep he did nearly blow his own head off with some forbidden piece of tech he'd turned around the wrong way. Seems to me the manufacturers would've though to label it better.
Though I did like seeing Scully and Mulder share a smooch at the end of their Deathmatch....

If you want to talk about crossover chaos ... read ChandaK562's story, The Clow Card Syndrome - a crossover of MiB with CardCaptors! ^_^ It's actually a pretty good story, but is certainly an unusual idea to cross mahou shoujo (magical girl) anime with a sci-fi cartoon.

The idea came when some of us were discussing CardCaptors on the MiB list (I don't remember how that came up), and I pointed out how Madison's (er, Tomoyo's) female bodyguards looked like MiB agents.

If you'd like to read the story, you could either find it on FanFiction.net when it comes back online, or read it through my mailing list's page (the archives are public):

This is what I had thought, myself. This way, they wouldn't use up all of the letters of the alphabet so quickly. You don't see very many female field agents, but you do see them around MiB HQ, so I imagine they have roles within HQ.

My real name also begins with J, so I suppose I'd have to use the first letter of my middle name--thus, Agent M.

If I were to go this route, with my first name, I'd end up being Agent J, and with my middle name, I'd end up being Agent L. But I think I like the nickname idea, like Captain and Pro from the MiB novel.

And I'll get back to y'all on the letter of that dead agent, tho I'm sure it was in the Hots For Jay Syndrome.

The agent who Kay said had died after eating at a Jee'Dangian buffet was Agent Q. The interesting thing is, in one of the first season episodes, Q was one of the first five MiB agents (the other four being Kay, T, D, & H). Kay never says if the Agent Q who dies is the same as the Q who died after eating at this buffet.

I see a discontinuity here. 'Cause K asked J if he'd ever heard of Q, while in The Head Trip Syndrome (hereafter I'll refer to these eps without "The" or "Syndrome"), he was quite familiar with all the involved agents, including Q.

Well, here's a puzzler. why weren't the first five named A, B, C, D, & E? A or Alpha was the original boss, & D was one of the first five, but the others? Well, B was K's original partner, C got sea-cabin fever in Atlantis, & E was agent to those who come from around other stars in Star System. So why weren't those letters used first, instead of H, K, Q, & T? Was it originally up to the individual agent what letter he or she chose? Or maybe it is all about the first (or middle) name.

Dee
08-21-2001, 02:39 PM
maybe they just used the first letters of their names LOL

maybe they didn't think the luduicrous odds of the first agents having alphabetical ordered names was too much.

If they were all a b c d e it would look stupid lol. "Gee whiz... they were creative for this one"

Oh, I definitely agree here! ^_^ For the most part, the show's writers were consistent with the continuity between episodes, but there have been a few slip ups here and there.

I think it was based on the first name. According to the Retribution comic (the one that followed the comic book adaptation of the movie), Kay's real name was Kevin Cunningham. And in the MiB trading cards based on the movie, D's real name was David Kleinman.

That leaves H, Q, and T unaccounted for. Perhaps they chose to use the first letter of their first name, or they just chose which letter they wanted to be.

Here's a little discontunuity thing (again!) for you, Nftnat: there appear to be two different stories of the origins of the MiB. In the Head Trip episode, there is no mention of Alpha being involved with the agents who were present to make first contact with the Baltians (this was the event that started the MiB). If I am not mistaken, in the movie, we see a picture depicting this meeting.

Then we have the Alpha story, which suggests that he started the Men in Black. But there is no mention of H, K, D, or Q, or of the "first contact" with the Baltians.

My assumption is that the meeting between the agents and the Baltians took place first, and then at some point shortly after, Alpha joined the agents, and organized them into the MiB that we know today.

I was on the IGN message boards earlier today, and someone had posted that October's Wizard (a magazine?) had published their list of top 100 animated shows. Men in Black: The Series was on the list at #73!

The full list can be seen here (I'm not sure if Wizard has an official site):

I totally had a feeling the Simpsons is Number 1. They TRULY ARE the best out there... though MIB should have been up closer. I never did like Josie and the Pussycats... and Im amazed MIB beat Sailor moon. It's one of those shows thats like "it's popular... must mean it's best, right?"

Jem... AWESOME! I grew up watching that show and man... you can never really forget em.

Im happy to see a seperate list for anime. Anime and, as I now call it (after seeing a signature on here), western cartoons are totally seperate and should always be consitdered seperate. Im okay with Anime, but when it's in my face and bothersome... I get defensive of our animation.

I don't know about batman as #2... is this the batman animated series from a few years back? (5 or 6---i have horrid memory as to chronological dates) and If it's the one i remember--- with harley Quinn and Poison Ivy and all those characters... it sounds about right.

I liked it... and watched it, and frankly don't know why it's not still on. Maybe... in the future, cartoons will be saved....

Im sitting and waiting for the day where they realize "HEY, MIB Was damn popular.... what the heck were we thinking when we pulled it?"

MIB always survives.... and will always remain popular. Of course... the sequel may break that statement.

I've posted that cute picture on the "Upcoing stories page"

see it here:

AND For those who would like to catch some 'new episodes' as I call em, until MIB comes back to us... you can check out my fan fictions (why they got me going on writing these at the yahoo board, I'll never know! hehe!) and anything you haven't read at FanFiction.net... and I've got links to each story (yes ff.net is currently working) and you can see the fiction page at:

http://members.tripod.com/delia97/id36.htm

and I'm currently working on my fiction data pages that highlight and give general info on the characters I've created, and how they came to be about. Enjoy those on my page and hopefully the stories will tide you over till MIB comes back to us.

I'm slow at writing, but until MIB comes back to us, it will be what we have. Also check out Chanda's stories (on my Fanfiction author page I believe I have her listed as one of my fav authors so you can EASILY access her work by clicking the name. Also, check out some of the fictions I found to be halarious!)

We find it hard nowadays to even get the newer post film release comics. I own a graphic novel with the first 3 MIB comics by cunningham and theyre not even the originals.

I'm not sure how many MIB comics are out there... but you'd have a HECK of a time getting them all in one place.

Delia, I think that you can display pictures on the forum, as long as they are uploaded to your site or somewhere else on the web. You need to use the IMG button in the VB code section when you are posting, and then just add the URL of the picture. Is this the picture you wanted to show us?

I apologize for not posting replies to the thread any sooner, but I started a new job mid-August, and that has been keeping me pretty busy. Signed up for a temp agency, and got a job doing data entry. It's not too bad; the people I work for are nice.

Delia was teasing me about being a temp with that line Elle gave Zed about getting a temp (when she was trying to do one of the Twins' jobs) - which episode was that?

--that was "The Worm Guy-Guy Syndrome", in which a couple of alien bounty hunters start nabbing alien citizens over petty offenses. They grab the twins, and leave MIB short-handed. L is befuddled by the computer, and the temps, called The Triplets, have their thumbs up whatever passes for a butt on an alien. Also, J gets crossed with one of the coffee worms when they pass through each other in one of the hunters' boom tubes. One of the stranger episodes.

Odd thought I had while watching the Midnight Run on Cartoon Network--if J and K can fight Mulder and Scully on Celebrity Deathmatch, why not bring in other agents? I was thinking it'd be fun to see X vs. Asia Klann-Klann (Outlaw Star). For the first time ever, Geeda'ang takes on Kata'arl-Kata'arl in the squared circle. http://www.ukobservers.net/cwm/otn/laughing/icon_smile_lachuh.gif My money's on the cat-girl.

As in 9/11. As I've said before, terrorists have a deeply sick sense of humor and love symbolism.
I suppose, to paraphrase K's assertion in "The Neuralizer Syndrome", the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings are now the tallest buildings in Mahhattan. I have to wonder what other major cities Bin Laden considered--Chicago? L.A.? Houston? I shudder to think if, with more money and planes, how many metropolises would have suffered.
Alpha himself would be proud.

Hehe im gonna try to go as Elle for halloween!

It's gonna be hard finding a suit though... ive always had trouble (thus why ive never been elle for halloween)

hey.... i'd like to see someone make a cool X costume as a challenge--- How would they do the head (not that I like X... it would be one heck of a mask challenge!!)

Nftnat
09-18-2001, 12:17 PM
How hard can it be to make a human MIB costume? White shirt, everything else in black, get a pair of shades, you're there.

Dee
09-18-2001, 07:26 PM
I was talking about an ALIEN Agent X mask...

Now that would be SOMETHING! I wonder how youd make the yellow eyes for the alien mask and the ears would be interesting...

now i doubt youd be able to recreate the voice of the character agent x for the costume's effect... he he he.

If you were talking about the Elle costume... its still hard. There are no suits jackets or anything remotely related to that up here for less than a small fortune. I have a hard time finding anything up here and it's always hard to locate a component for any costume... theres someone up here doing a costume for sailor moon and only now has she been able to locate some green boots for the costume (it's some other sailor character) and shes got to get them through ebay and from some ways away... so far me and ebay dont work with clothing purchases....

It's really hard to locate anything like that for a costume. A suit... well, i may have to try the salvation army or a thrift store... hopefully I CAN locate something...

HEY what are you guys gonna do for halloween if you all still celebrate the sheer fun of making costumes and getting buzzed on candy... hehe.

Dee
09-18-2001, 11:13 PM

do people still read this thread? LOL

I got some new episodes in the mail and I saw something freaky! In the 'COPS' show parody episode 'Bad Boys Syndrome' the agents have to go to the top of the twin Towers to trade Kay for the hostage Agent X.

A lot of funny stuff happens but after it all, Jay made a remark about it being code named "9-11" which was really freaky.

The show came out long before the september incident and i thought it was REALLY WEIRD that "9-11" would be said on the episode centered around the twin towers. I dont think they'll ever show that episode again in repeats even if they ever did air the past season repeats!

Sharklady
