Before "CATS AND DOGS", Before BABE THE TALKING PIG there was...

THE DOGVILLE COMEDIES !!!!!

All this month during "Turner Classic Movies" regular showcase for short subjects, "Festival Of Shorts", will be airing the famous two reel MGM comedies "The Dogville Comedies".

If you have never see this very strange comedy shorts, then you're missing out on something really weird but very funny comedy. The two "Dogville"shorts that will be shown starting morning at 5:30am est are.

College Hounds (1930)

Hot Dog (1930)

These are just the funniest shorts that I have ever seen, the stars of the films are, dogs dressed up in costumes and they actually talk through out the 20 minute film, it's very outrageous
and politically incorrect.
Please watch and tape these rare two reel comedies and add this to your video library.

Were these some of the early Jules White work for MGM??? Before he got Buster Keaton, and then took off for Columbia and Three Stooge-dom...

Yes...Jules White directed many of the "Dogville" shorts from 1930 to 1932 at MGM.
Some of White's best "Dogville" shorts were:
Trader Hound (1932)
The Dogway Melody (1930)
All Quiet On The Canine Front (1931)
College Hounds (1930)

In all, there were 12 "Dogville" shorts made between 1930 thru 1932.The classic series has had some problems during the past years, it is to believed (Just Rumors) that Animal Rights activists tried to have the series banned from being seen to the public, the group felt that seeing these films with the dogs walking and wearing the heavy costumes was animal abuse towards the dogs, but no such storys have popped since then.

Some people when they see "The Dogville Comedies" for the first time, two things will ether happen...You may get offended on what you'll be seeing, or you may laugh out loud when you see the shorts. These films are so bad, that they are really excellent comedy shorts when you watch them.

So enjoy the show folks, and tell me what you think!!!Give us a review of the films

I've seen several of them on TV, I think. So believe Nelson when he says they are funny, these are some of the funniest shorts ever made! I've also seen similar shprts with monkeys too.

Woof! SO THAT's what Turner Classic movies showed a few months back with dogs in the cast! Kinda like Spekaing of ANimals. I wonder who did the voices. Jules White would go on to Coumbia to direct the classiest or most classless* Three Stoogees films.

*Depends on one's own personal opinion, of course.

One of the most famous voice over artists, Billy Bletcher did many of the voices in the "Dogville" shorts including the one they showed this morning, "College Hounds".
TCM host ROBERT OSBORNE even said that they could not make the films today even if they wanted to, because the Animal Rights Actvists would never allow it to be filmed.
Did anyone catch this mornings shorts? I sure did and I thought they were so funny, that I tears coming out of my eyes.My favorite scene in "Hot Dog" is where three drunken dogs are singing out of tune, and one of the dogs falls off his chair and passes out.

You else saw the comedy shorts today?
