Did you notice in today's premiere of the PPG there was a really really inappropriate joke in there. While the girls were argueing about the squirrel's gendor Bubbles shouts "Squirrels eat nuts, stupid!".

I know there was a thread about a risky joke in Dexter's Lab but, that was just wrong.

When I first heard that line, I was like "Oh my God!" But, they've done risky stuff in episodes before. I can think of two episodes where they made allusions to prison rape.

They were allowed to show that Superfriends short with the PPG (multiple times), so I see no problem with the line in that episode.

I think they can do those jokes because its not something blantly obvious. The "nuts" thing in The Powerpuff Girls was pushing it, but many jokes work on CCF shows simply because they can be take literally (which kids usually take them) and a more subverse manner (which most adults catch on to).

One that was risque, in my opinion: In the Courage episode in the museum, they show a sculpture's exposed breasts for a few seconds. But maybe they can get away with it just because it's considered high art for some reason.(Come to think of it, why do people stare at nude sculptures like Michelangelo's David and say "Marvelous!" and object nudity in the media?)

They actually can get away with that because that sculpture actually does exist in the Luve (please tell me if my spelling is wrong).

In the Courage episode in the museum, they show a sculpture's exposed breasts for a few seconds.

In an I am Weasel cartoon, I.R. Baboon is talking to a talent agent and his desk has legs with naked women holding it up and it was shown for about 25 seconds.

Which PPG episode was this, anyway? Must have missed it...

But it's nothing like the episode title "Forced Kin"... I mean, c'mon!

While we're pointing out risque visuals etc. In one of the Minerva Mink cartoons in Animaniacs, a frog sees Minerva, and swallows his eyes into his throat while sticking his tongue straight out. The visual effect, for about one second, is thus: Something long and straight sticking up above a sack with two round things inside... get the picture?

Well, to folks in the Religious Wrong, transvestites are the spawns of Satan too, so it's just appropriate that Him has that trait!

As for "Forced Kin"... Most PPG titles are puns, and this one is a pun on the word "foreskin". I leave you to look the word up for yourself in a dictionary or a book on human anatomy.

(This reminds me of Red Dwarf fans who ask where the expletive "smeg" comes from...)

On a non-risque note, did you notice the Professor's spot on impersonation of the Narrator? (yes, I know they both know Tom Kane--sheesh!) Scary. Almost as scary as Frank Welker chatting with himself in an episode of G1 Transformers.

I can't believe everybody missed this one.

In the Johnny Bravo episode where he meets Farrah Fawcett, there is a scene where Fawcett is playing pin-the-tail on the donkey. She then says "This is fun! I can't remember the last time I was blindfolded! Oh, wait. Yes I can. Oops." (giggles)

I'm sure if you all thought about this for a second you'd get the joke.

I've seen this example of innuendo in a lot of cartoons (Sheep in the big city, Animaniacs, and Pinky and the Brain for example)
Sometimes, especially when in a showbiz environment, a character will use the word "dreck" (which means sh** in yiddish). I'm jewish and I know some yiddish, so I find it really amusing when they do this:D.
I guess its OK to curse on TV as long as its not english profanity :)

There's tons of innuendo jokes in these shows, and I love every one.

There's one not-so-subtle Johnny Bravo where a group of Amazons need him to sacrifice a virgin to a volcano. He, of course, denies this charge.

Ah! And I just remembered one of my favorites..

In the "Ghost fish" episode of Dexter, the end has Dexter and Dee Dee in the bathroom in the middle of the night. Their dad walks in with *ahem* reading material under his arm saying "Kids! You should know by now that early morning is Dad's special bathroom privacy time!"

Ok ok. This isnt about cartoon cartoons, but you were talking about Disney earlier. Well, did you know Disney has their own porn page? Anyone who has ever been to a Disney theme park has no doubt heard about the log flume ride "Splash Mountian" It's a log flume based on the movie Song of the South and if you know anything about that story you should know that they throw Brer Rabbit down into the brair patch (big thorny pit) and of course since it's a log flume ride and all log flumes have big drops at some point during the ride, the big fall on this ride is the brair patch. And of course it takes your picture on it. So of course women flash the camera. And Disney takes all the pictures of the ladies flashing the camera (of course they dont sell them.) and they upload them on to their page titled "Flash Mountain". Now, I've never been there cuz I'm a girl and I don't go that way, so I don't know the URL, but I think they have it on that urban legends page posted earlier on this thread. (I remeber visting that page a long time ago looking for stuff on Disneyland, and that was one of the true urban legends.)

08-14-2002, 08:53 PM
Actually I just went back to Snopes and there is something about it. Go down to Disney. Click on Disneyland and its the last one that says "Women bare their breasts for the camera on Splash Mountain"

Obi
08-14-2002, 09:45 PM
Thanks for pointing that out, I guess it is true that some women flash the camera. But what I was really saying that I think is an urban legend is that Disney themselves have a web page called "Flash Mountain". If there is a Flash Mountain, I highly doubt its actually run by Disney. It's probably jsut some prankster who was working on Splash Mountain and put the pics on the internet.

Some amuzing innuendoes I caught during Cartoon Cartoon Weekend:

From Time Squad:
A room is filled with colonial guys trying to write the Declaration of Independence.
Some Guy: We hold these truths to be self... self...
John Adams: Self-servicing? Self-satisfying?? Self-exploratory???

From Johnny Bravo
Johnny is in the supermarket, and sees a girl giving away free samples of food.
Johnny: Pick-up on aisle 5!
Girl: Free sample?

In that Cartoon Cartoon with the cavemen -- don't remember their names, but one is called Doubledome and is voiced by Jess Harnell -- after Doubledome starts a fire by scraping his butt on the ground, his companion tells him that Doubledome gave birth to the fire, which Doubledome takes to mean as him being the mother of the fire. So he treats it like a child.

His companion says, "There's a slight flaw in your assumption."
Doubledome replies, "Oh, sorry. This tunic keeps riding up."

Later, when the fire dies, Doubledome sobs as a mother who has lost a child. His companion says, "We can make a new fire."
Doubledome shoots back, "How can you TEASE me at a time like this??"

Thought those were pretty funny. Not really "slipped by" material -- they never actually used the rude word in the first one, and the second one is only implicit, which is perfectly fair game. Anyone who doesn't understand that there's a sexual implication simply doesn't get the joke. It's not explicitly making a reference to sex.

Not really naughty stuff but I got a kick out of the recent PPG exchange:

Buttercup: "Can't you abacus any faster?"
Blossom: "Aba-kiss my butt!"

Yet what left me hanging from that episode was when Dexter and DeDe ran into the room Dexter is smiling like he knew the joke all along while DeDe is in a panic. Was that an animation fluke?

I know of another Disney movie that's been accused of slipping the 's' word into the background art.

In 'The Lion King', there's a scene where Simba flops himself to the ground, sending up a poof of wildflower pollen. Supposably, the pollen wafts twist themselves into the letters S, E and X.

I've subjected that scene to a stop-motion exam, and concluded that it *might* stand that interpretation, but only to a viewer who's making a point of looking for it. In which case the viewer bears as much responsiblity for it as the animators, so has no honest cause for complaint.

Well, it's not a cartoon cartoon, but I caught this on 2 Stupid Dogs today.

The two dogs have just gotten into a drive-in theater for "free" (if you saw it, you know what I mean), and they start watching the movie (which, of course, they don't know is a movie). Little Dog starts pointing out how fake the alien on the screen looks and then proceeds to sate "This is kaka! Why do people even come here?" We then see a long shot of the drive-in and every car but the 2 dogs' car is rocking back and forth. Heh.

I noticed an innuendo on the episode of "Cow and Chicken" where Chicken plays with a pricing gun and accidentally labels himself and Cow and the Red Guy buys them and tries to figure out their uses.

Scene: The loud-mouthed Teacher buys the Red Guy (after getting caught leaving without paying for himself) and takes him home. After the short scene where the mom buys Cow and Chicken, the Teacher says to the Red Guy, and I quote, "Hey, I paid good money for you..." (you have to have a *really* perverted sense of humor to see that that was a reference to prostitution    :o :o :o :D :D :D ).

Cow and Chicken, period. How many references to rump, butt, hiney, etc. do they have to have? The "Red Guy" devil kind of got old with the disguises and butt names. Among other vulgar wink-wink jokes that I'm sure Ren and Stimpy had already done. That show had a few good moments, but I absolutely abhorred it. "I Am Weasel" was a lot funnier, but darnit, it was still vulgar. Why do some people think that a cartoon must have so many gross or vulgar jokes and gags to be funny? Both series could have been pretty good, the concepts for both are hilarious. However, even the drawings get gross sometimes...a waste of animation talent, and of Charlie Adler's great voices. Ren and Stimpy may have been a groundbreaking show, but that kind of vulgar-style animation is a plague. There. I said it. :D

1) The "Least Favorite Cartoon Cartoons Post" is next door

2) I'll thank you not to compare Cow and Chicken with Ren and Stimpy. Yeah, it may be a "rip-off", but you have to remember that John K's original episodes were edited by Nickelodeon for innuendo and grotesque imagery. Cow and Chicken's only bouts with censorship was the Buffalo Gals episode, the Dad yelling "Oh, damn it!" on "Comet!", and some of the episodes like "No Smoking" and "Beaver Safari" don't play in reruns.

1) That scene was from the RJ episode, "Electric Boogaloo"

2) Here's some more racy scenes/quotes from CN's newest series:

From "P.U. to P.E.":

After the pan across the kids struggling in gym class and Robot Jones commenting on how pathetic they were, the shot cuts to Robot Jones wearing the jockstrap on his face (I know that's lame, but what the hey, I found it a little shocking).

After RJ tries to explain to Mr. Rucoat that he can't take a shower, Mr. Rucoat says: "The faster you get it over with, the better you'll feel."

After RJ leaves for his next class, Mr. Rucoat says the following: "For your own good, I am going to get you wet, Jones, one way or another."

I know Mr. Rucoat was referring to Robot Jones taking a shower in both quotes, but that just sounded so wrong and if you take these lines out of context, you will never look at this episode the same way again. On top of that, my sister said she found something perverted about Mr. Rucoat's obsession with Robot Jones taking a shower. Can you believe that or what?

Yes, the writers might have OD'd on the butt jokes (especially the aliases of The Red Guy, like Ivan Panced, Ben Panced, C.D. Hinee, Butz Galore, Baron Von Neinleiderhosen, Larry Lackapants, Dr. Lax Slax, Lance Sackless, Mrs. Barederriere, Irving J. Slaxoff, Geraldo Rear-view-a, Rear Admiral Floyd of the Man Navy, etc.) on "Cow and Chicken" as Matthew Hunter says, but there's a lot of other risque material in "Cow and Chicken" that has nothing to do with rear ends and makes me wonder how a series like that (as much as I like it) can eschew the long arm of political correctness and decency in the media (TV or otherwise), especially if the media is aimed at children.

Examples include:

In "Which Came First" (the one where Chicken thinks he's a girl because The Red Guy put an egg in his bed), there were a lot of jokes that pertained to gender-bending (Mom: "Oh, look honey, there goes our little Chicken, all grown up and wearing my dress" Dad: "Just like me on our first date")

In "Dirty Laundry" (the one where The Red Guy is Geraldo Rear-view-a), the gym teacher's says, "I don't want any girly-men on my team. I want man-men" and there was a scene where Mom and Dad freaked out over a "pants-less" man (the Red Guy) in their room.

The scene in "Cow and Chicken Reclining" where Dad gets rescued from the Fem Chair with the Gums of Life and his pants get ripped off.

In "Part Time Job", the Rear Admiral Floyd jingle had these exact words: "Nobody flips a boid/Like Rear Admiral Floyd..." (Now that's messed up!)

The entire episode of "Buffalo Gals" because of distasteful lesbian allusions (Cow plays "Pitch and Catch" with the Buffalo Gals, the biker named "Munch Kelly" who has a crush on Cow, Mom saying that the Buffalo Gals come into people's houses and chew carpet, etc.)

In the episode, "Boneless Kite", there is a native tribe called the Azwi-pes (remove the hyphen and add two s's after the A and you'll see the light).

The numerous references to Dad's sexuality throughout the series.

The fact that the alternate title to "Comet!" is "Dad's Ball" (Think about that for a minute)

The scene in "Comet!" where Dad hollers, "Ohhhhh, damn it!" when playing golf (That got muted out when put in reruns)

The scene in "Duck, Duck, Chicken" where the Red Guy shows a centerfold to Mom and Dad when he shows them what a duck looks like.

The pilot episode "No Smoking" where The Red Guy is referred to as "The Devil" and Chicken smokes cigarettes because he thinks they're cool.

That line "Manly, yes, but I like it too" in some episodes might be a little off-color, considering that it's been said by Dad on "Comet!" near the end of the episode, The Red Guy in a Scotsman's costume while playing Chicken like a bagpipe on "Chicken Lips", and Chicken during his coffee high on "Stay Awake".

I know this isn't considered a "swear word" (but CN does have a problem with airing this particular word for whatever reason I don't know) but on the Robot Jones episode, "Jealousy", when Shannon and that android were walking down the hall, look closely and you can see that someone wrote "I SUCK!" in green on a locker door.

Well, I LOVE it when a joke works on two levels...whether inuindo is present or not, it's just clever...but ONLY when it's subtle enough my kids never suspect they missed anything.
But I DISPISE the blatant vulgarity in shows like Ren and Stempy and Cow and Chicken...that's not clever, just juvinille.

Many of the things here I found riotus when I heard them, a few of them I STILL don't get  but the one I really have to go back and look for is the poster in Robot Jones. I missed that altogether.

Anyway, another thing:

In cow and chicken when chicken is photocopying parts of himself, he copies his wattle, and just his wattle, so you have a piece of paper with what looks exactly like a human's "kicking targets" (that's what I call them, anyway) on it. It's lying on the floor in the background for several other scenes, right next to one of cow's udder. They're both on a pile of other copies, but none of those are actually drawn out...just plain white squares.

A little blatant, yeah.

They probably only got by the censors initially because there was a slight leniency in standards afforded by WWII. (RED HOT RIDING HOOD, the first such entry, was released in 1943). But in 1947's UNCLE TOM'S CABANA- which has never been shown in syndication or on a Turner network due to the extremely 'Negro' title character- really goes overboard with symbolism. Simon Legree steals the cash register, which he hides under his coat. When Red starts her dance, it not only arouses Simon, but the cash register's drawer pops out of the coat right where his- awww, YOU know- would be. As a topper, some of the money flies out as well!!  The implications are plenty obvious. It's amazing that stuffed-shirt producer Fred Quimby, let alone MGM, let that one slip by! ;)

But I DISPISE the blatant vulgarity in shows like Ren and Stempy and Cow and Chicken...that's not clever, just juvinille.

Actually I only like cartoon innuendo if its meaning is completely clean to kids but not to adults.

I agree, the C&C innuendo and vulgarity does go too far, but I don't think R&S has that much sexual innuendo because Nickelodeon objected to it and John K. had it cut (of course this won't stop TNN from reinstating the scenes once R&S returns).

Examples:

-The scene in Big House Blues where Ren kisses Stimpy in his sleep and ends up cleaning his mouth out in the toilet.

-The episode "Dog Show" where a character by the name of George Liquor is shown as a dog with a tail that looked too much like an erection (Nick had this episode banned and MTV aired it with the erection tail digitally blurred out and the mention of George Liquor bleeped out)

-The real ending to "Robin Hoek" was supposed to have Stimpy (dressed as a woman) kiss Ren during the wedding scene, but that got cut. I don't know if this'll be brought back on TNN.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but in the Dexter's lab episode where Dex and Dee Dee are having their battle with the label makers, DD claims everything in the fridge except for the apple juice, which Dex promptly drinks, only to find DD had claimed the toilet.

We're left hanging as to how Dex found a bathroom until the end of the episode where Mom and Dad are walking on a rather squishy carpet.

Mom: Why is the carpet all wet here?

Not a cartoon cartoon but on House of Mouse today they had a Goofy cartoon and Goofy was at a baseball game and the narrarator said something to the effect of shouting your favorite four letters words at the ump then Goofy starts shouting Ump you... and while he's shouting he's blowing his blowhorn so you cant hear what the four letter words were.

In an episode of @ stupid dogs, they are trying to get in a stoor with automatic doors,so the are running around trying to find shoes to put in front of the door(they think they needed shoes to open the door).Anyway,Little dog goes in a dark room with flashy lights, and we see a silouette of a shapely woman, and we see her,TAKE OFF HER BRA!Little dog then goes "no no!the shoe, take off the shoe!" and she kicks her leg and her shoe flys off and little dogs catches it and goes "Ohhh Yeeeaaahh!!!"

Of course,it was dark in the room,so we couldn't really see details, but it was still obvious where Little dog was and who he was watching.

I only turned to it for a few minutes as I don't watch Robot Jones, so it might be an old episode, but heres what I heard.

Actually it was:

"Hey, robot, maybe you caught that virus from Mr. Mitchell's computer"

"No way, Jose. We have never had interface"

Still I can't believe the CN censors are that oblivious.

They can edit out violence and guns and refs to sake from their anime and racial jokes from the classic cartoons, but their Cartoon Cartoons can get away with almost everything. It makes me a little mad because it's not fair, but I've learned to live with it. Besides, some of the Cartoon Cartoons are actually good.

What I find hilarious is the destruction and violence in PPG and now, Samurai Jack.

PPG: To my knowledge, they've never shown anyone die (other than Bunny), but when they blow up that town (which happens about every week), thousands of people get wasted. Fire, Bombings, Monsters, invasions, et cetera... it is my feeling that much of the wanton violence of this cartoon is done as a sort of in-joke, simply to be mischevious and see what they can get away with.

Samurai Jack: I love how Genndy got around the blood & guts issue, but having his victims, mechanized, robotic, et cetera... I don't think any one would argue that had Jacks sword cut through one (indisputable) human, the show would be pulled.

It's not a CC, but it kind of fits under this topic. There's an episode of Spongebob Squarepants that I'm kind of surprised that it hasn't been censored since 9/11.

In the ep where Spongebob and Patrick "steal" a balloon, Patick says something along the lines of "We stole a balloon! That isn't some silly crime like mail fraud or hi-jacking a plane!"

I remember watching an episode of Cow & Chicken a long time ago--so long ago, I can't remember the name of it--where Chicken had his wattle injured (I think it was stamped or something *shrugs*). When his parents were looking at it, Mom bawls, "Oh, no! They crushed his nads!"

I swear I heard that, but I must have misinterpreted it because... well... a wattle's just a wattle and nothing more. So can anyone tell me what was really said?

Actually, the mom was crying over Chicken's beak getting scratched up by a bully and she said, "I'll never have grandkids". The episode was called "The Karate Chick".

I haven't seen this one yet, so I'll get back to you the next time it aires. :D Uh oh! It mat not air at all! Last week's update stated that the 8am airing has vanished, and a look at the schedule (as of TONIGHT) indicated that the 5:30pm airing may be replaced by a 2nd episode of "G Gundam." However, my TV's 3-day schedule still shows "Knock It Off" at 5:30, so I'd set my VCR to record that half hour just in case. Good luck.

The new Cartoon Network schedule appears to show PPG is only on at 6:30pm on Sundays and 8:30pm Monday-Thursday. Let's hope that they don't lose 5:30pm Monday-Thursday or we'll have to file a protest.

Maybe Cartoon Network discovered that OTHER cartoons infact, contrary to popular belief, exist, and there are people out there who don't like the show. Sorry, but I think they've been spoiled a little too much...

Oh yeah, what about these jokes in Ed, Edd, 'n' Eddy?

(Eddy pulls out a bra from somewhere.)
Eddy: WHOOHOO!!! PG-13!
Ed: That is my mom's, Eddy.
Eddy: (Stares at it for a few seconds) EEWW!!!

The many butt jokes scattered around the Eds, for example, in "Pop Goes the Ed". I mean, Eddy undresses himself in front of both Double D and Ed, about halfway through the episode, the Eds are revealed when the swimsuits come off unsuspectedly. Remember when the swimsuits fly off? One lands in Kevin's hotdog bun and Kevin eats the "hotdog", and the other lands in Jimmy's teacup. Jimmy takes a sip of it and says something like "Mmm! -Describes the swimsuit's taste-!"

I'm tired of hearing people (not you, just in general) use that episode as an example of why EEnE is a gross-out show with butt jokes galore. That's the ONLY episode that was "gross" (except maybe the end of The Day the Ed Stood Still). The rest of the show is completely normal. Pop Goes the Ed was one of the very first episodes (the way it looks, you'd think it was a pilot). They made it into a very funny and somewhat "gross" episode. After that, the show was no worse than Dexter. I hate it when people see that one episode and deem the show a Cow & Chicken clone. It's just NOT.
