I very much enjoy the show. More now than ever. Series 1-3 were great, but then it went stinky on series 4. Ever since it has picked up and got better.
It's receiving a lot of criticisim at the moment from the press - mainly those who hyped it in the first place. Unfortunately rule one of media journalism is that if you help make a programme what it is, you have the right to try and destroy it. People watched the programme because the magazines told them so, they now stop liking it because the magazines tell them to. Grr. Journalism and the lazy people who can't think for themselves. What a combo.
This gripes comes along as SFX, a popular UK SciFi mag seems suddenly hell bent on criticising Buffy and promoting Angel - amazing - especially when the latter has had a frankly washy series.
I think it's excellent. Some say the move in interest to comedy and 'girly' characters (SFX whining that there are no blokes in the show and the nerds are, well, nerds) has made it worse. I say it's brought a new slant and thus more life to the show.
Anyone agree?

And what's wrong with a more feminine approach? Oh yeah - girls=weak and bad  Besides let's not forget the vampire-in-residence the bad--- himself Spike, and frankly Xander has never been more tough than the past couple of seasons since he started woking at the construction site. That magazine doesn't know what it's talking about. :p
I love this show. I love all the characters (even the wishy-washy Riley, but yeah I'm glad he's gone). I love that somethings are not always just good or just evil, which creates lots of questions. What are they going to do with Anya in the next season?? Consequences for Willow's 'tantrum'? Will Buffy forgive Spike?
I love it and I'm going to be sad to see it go.

Ah well SFX would bleat that Spike has been castrated as has Xander in a relationship sort of way (I kid you not, these were their words...!). This is what annoys me about media journalists - ones who don't report but try and influence people with their fews. This mag is full of them, and while the reports are interesting, the personal side to the mag is pitiful. They have a 'coach potato' session which mimics MST3K except it's done by some really unfunny journalists who insist on big photos of themeselves on a couch, drinking beer (they look like nerds - but they drink beer so the can't be!) making gags which consist of toilet humour and scifi puns. They believe they know it all and thus infect the magazine with their tripe and ignorant views.
They boost the show up and as soon as it's not offering their superficial little palettes a 'monster of the week' or big bad evil god/demon they start snivelling that it's gone girly. Yikes, it's offends their overtly masculinity. It's not a boy show anymore. Shut up SFX.
Why don't they like it? I reckon it's the nerds. I think it hit's a little too close to home with these scifi journalists!
I'm very much looking forward to the next series - shame its the last but at least it will go out on a high!

I totally disagrree with what they are sayin...i think as this show has progressed ( and quite well IMO) it just gets better and better with sweet character development. Espescialy that of Spike and Willow. Willow started off as this nerdy side kick who was always helpful but constantly in the way. Now she is the most powerful person in the world and one of the greateset threats the buffy has faced. Its great. You cant just keep a show in the same place like some reviewers want it. Sure its nice to have that same chemistry all the time but it will just get stale and stagnent over time. If this show keeps goin at the pace it already is, who knows whats possible for the next season and hopefully more after that.

I've loved Buffy since the pilot in '97 and havent ever stopped. Season 2 and 3 were the best, but the rest were still quite good (even though season 4 was a lil 'egh').
Great cast, great stories, great everything.
GO SMG!!!!
Angel shouldnt have gotten spun off, he and Buff should be together :(

I don't know, on the face of the last two Angel episodes I'd agree, but Angel's character has progressed so much since Buffy I can hardly imagine the character liking the girl! :)
