Does anybody know if this show is still on any channel in the US? I'd really like to get some episodes on tape, even if I heard they're god-awful.

I don't think the "New" Woody Woodpecker Show is on any longer, which is a great thing considering on how bad the show was.The problem with the new verison was, that Woody was no longer able to peck people in the heads anymore, he was toned down big time for the TV censors.
Walter Lantz must have been turing over in his grave if he saw what Universal was doing to his prized Woodpecker:eek:

I agree with you, Nelson! If Mr. Lantz were alive today, he would probably keel over if he was subjected to the new Woody Woodpecker show! Even the Chilly Willy cartoons had no charm!
I remember in the the late 1970's when NBC had the broadcast rights to thse cartoons. They were so edited, it was pathetic. One of those edited cartoons, "Swiss Miss-fit", was released on video on the "Man's Best Friend" tape. I couldn't tell you how relieved I was when they were syndicated again. I was able to watch Woody before and after school.
Those were the days...

lislebartman, give us some examples of how the cartoons were edited on NBC.

It looks like Woody will return to the FOX Kids line-up this fall:
Beginning this fall, The Woody Woodpecker Show will air on FOX Kids, Monday through Friday during their "FOX Kids Block" (2-4pm).
I found this at a rather interesting website about Woody and friends from Universal Consumer Products Group (http://www.universalstudios.com/cpg/prop/woody/). If anybody wants to license the classic Lantz stars for consumer products ... there's the website to visit.

Well, that's good news. The ones I saw (titles that come to mind "Weiner Wars" and "Fake Vacation") were pretty funny. Even if they're bad, you gotta give these guys credit for bringing back the characters. Remember how little merchandise the Lantz characters had outside of Universal Studios before the show? I like the new character designs too. The bring back the old forties style Woody, not Woody as the Road Runner.
It's too bad Andy Panda wasn't brought back. I can't beleive they wouldn't revive one of Lantz's biggest stars, while they'd revive someone lame like Ms. Meany. Even if they didn't want to make any new episodes with him, they could show something like "A Classic Andy Panda Cartoon", but they did that with Chilly Willy's "The Legend of Rock-a-Bye", and they used the God-awful DVNR.
Jon, are these BRAND NEW episodes, or repeats of the original nine episodes? Were there any more than nine? The only website I found was one with the listings of nine episodes.

I've only seen 1 and maybe the very end of another. The first episode, I cought only the end, it had Chilly Willy lounging in front of an ocean liner on the beach. The second, had Woody and Wally, Wally chased Woody all over his house and backyard. If anything, it looked impressive, and was somewhat funny with fuller animation and some nice backgrounds.
If these new episodes have the "Rock-abye Point" cartoon, then I'm taping it! Unless the DVNR is particularly bad in that episode...

If you do some digging around that Universal website, it reveals there are 40 episodes of the new Woody Woodpecker Show. We have only seen the first nine in the United States.

Do you mean like the following?:
Universal Cartoon Studios is the home of The Woody Woodpecker Show. The new television show, consisting of 40 new episodes, is quickly traveling around the globe where the show is already cleared to air in over 40 international markets.
Beginning this fall, The Woody Woodpecker Show will air on FOX Kids, Monday through Friday during their "FOX Kids Block" (2-4pm).
Fox Kids Latin America recently entered an exclusive multi-year cable-satellite licensing agreement with Universal International Television for 132 half-hour episodes of the animated series. The deal includes 40 new half-hour episodes of "The Woody Woodpecker Show" recently produced by Universal Cartoon Studios, as well as 92 classic half-hour episodes of "Woody Woodpecker and Friends."

This is in response to TServo2049's request earlier on in this thread:
When NBC aired the Walter Lantz cartoons in the late 1970s (I believe it came on in September 1977), they also aired film copies of the cartoons like CBS did with the Warner Bros. cartoons. No special intros were produced for the cartoons. Instead they would show the actual beginnings of the cartoons up to the cartoon's title, omitting the credits and go right into the cartoon. The end titles were also omitted.
I remember some of the cartoons like "Square Shooting Square" and "The Unbearable Salesman" being heavily edited, making some of them very short films. The editing itself was very sloppy too, just like the CBS edits of the WB toons. Most of the Woody cartoons were the ones with the 1950s/1960s Woody, but none of the 1970s Woody. A handful of the early 1940s Woody shorts were also aired. They did broadcast Andy Panda and Chilly Willy shorts but they didn't show any Beary Family cartoons. I didn't see any of those until later on when Woody and friends were resyndicated after the NBC run.
