I don't watch much T.V. but I would say Mobile Suit Gundam, I'm hooked on that show. Futurerama is pretty good also, and Simpsons seems to running out of ideas right now.

well, its hard for me to count animation and live action sitcoms together, soo.... if we're talking animation, definately "batman: the animated series". that show was the best and always will be the best in my book. its perfect. I can remember watching it for the first time.....anyway, in the live action catagory, i'd definately say "Married with childern", that was the first sitcom i watched regularly (not counting old show reruns), actually, it was almost like a cartoon at some points. I even watched it when it got bad (most of the last 2 seasons were almost unbarable for me) but i never missed an ep, thats how much i liked it. peace.

My favourite comedy of all time is "Married...with Children." It's bottom-feeder humour, but hey, I like it.

I don't have a favourite drama show. Every time I see dramatic shows in reruns, I see more and more flaws in the storytelling.

Okay, it really is hard because I have animation AND live action stuff, but here goes:

Animation:

The REAL Ghostbusters
Batman: The Animated Series

Now those are the shows we animation fans are fighting for.

Live Action:
ANGEL (for comedy the genre it would be Fraiser)

Chalk me up for the Simpsons as well for being my number 1 show. As for what Jowy said, well they seem to be making a comeback, but they HAVE gone on to become the longest running prime time cartoon....

....Futurama and Seinfeld I like, it's just that I never seem to catch them. And of course, Histeria!

Twin Peaks. Hands down, love it or hate it, that was the best television out there. I know people who only watched an episode or two and gave up on the show, but they didn't realize those episodes were part of a larger narrative and you HAVE to watch the entire narrative to piece it all together. Without it, there would have been no road paved for shows like Northern Exposure and the X Files. And look at the shows they paved ways for. Twin Peaks is by far my favorite TV series...EVER. I would watch that show any time, any where, and can't wait for it on DVD.

A series I felt was head and shoulders above many, many other shows was Nothing Sacred. But Catholics didn't like it, and some other religious folk didn't like it, so it didn't last long. And I can just say damn. It was a great show, underrated, and barely noticed cuz it aired on ABC on Thursday nights.

...never heard of Nothing Sacred (which may be a testament to the lousy time slot it got) but as Catholics kept me from seeing a sketch on the Inquisistion on Histeria!, I must say I know how you feel, Calhoun07.

Another cancelled show that was wonderful was Mathatten AZ. If you've seen it, I'm sure you'd love it too....but the Sunday time slot against the Futurama (on WB or UPN MAZ was on; I forget since it's been about two years) killed the show....dang....

Yes, Twin Peaks was an amazing bit of television - even it's more slow second year. It's a real pity that Lynch didn't commision a TV movie follow up movie rather than the prequel. I think that was a blunder and the cost of the mistake lost him the chance to continue on the franchise. Real pity.

Calhoun07
08-09-2001, 12:07 PM
I am sure if David Lynch wanted to, he would have made the sequel rather than the prequel, but from all I have read in interviews, he's quite satisfied with where Twin Peaks left off and how things were tied up in Fire Walk With Me.

As for Nothing Sacred...somebody mentioned they never heard of the show. It was basically a St Elsewhere or Boston Public style prime time drama but set in an inner city church. One of the topics tackled early on in the series was about abortion, and the Catholic Church just lobbied against the show so horribly. I wish it would see a second life on DVD.

I'm not so sure the production team was as happy. In fact, I seem to remember even Lynch himself planned a second TV movie on the assumption the first did well.

I've read several reviews of various members of the creative team which imply that the ideas were far from over and that wasn't the end.

Lynch may be - in retropect - happy with the series, but there was certainly more to come if FWWM hadn't failed.

Of course BTAS is on my list. I also like Jeopardy.
One of my favorite shows is Real World. I know most people here hate it, but I can't get enough of it. I think I might even try out for it in the future. I'd probably have a good chance, since they need their token gay for every season. :O)
Road Rules is also pretty good, but I'd never audition for it. Actually, I like reality shows in general, but these two are my favorites.
Another series I liked (which, of course has been cancelled) is Rude Awakening. It was on Showtime, and had Sherilyn Fenn and Lynn Redgrave. It was about an alcoholic woman struggling with her recovery, her lovelife, and her boozing mother--a comedy!
Another show I loved, also on Showtime, was Sherman Oaks. It's been cancelled for several years..I really loved this show. It was about a filmmaker who tapes the lives of a disfunctional family in Sherman Oaks, California. The family consisted of a plastic surgeon who cheats on his wife, the wife, who is a burned out hippie/slash new age "crystal lady" type, their ditzy, buxom daughter, their son, who believed he was black (this was at the height of the "white kids emulate black rappers" phase of the mid-ninties.), and their oriental maid who hated them all. It was made to look like a documentary. Funny stuff. Jason Behr played the son. He's on Roswell now.

Yeah, he was excellent. He really did the part justice. He would have been able to do a good Doctor. Perhaps a similar one to Colin Baker - lofty and aloof, without being irritating. That would have been quite a dramtic change to the quirky eccentric we always get.....

Oooo, watch it, you bitter genius you... ;) I'm a big fan of McCoy. While I agree is early stuff stunk (Paradise Towers being one of the better tasting dregs at the bottom of the barrel), I think 'The Happiness Patrol' is a fantastic episode and one of the best of the whole series. 'Ghost Light' (a latter McCoy for unintiated) is one of the best stories in the whole series of Doctor Who.
I think the whole feel of the series could have moved to a different level if the BBC would have extended it's life - and if they had decided if the programme was meant to be for kids or adults. It just didn't suit trying to cater for both.

Frozen

Yeah - the best source for potential adult Doctor material is the Virgin range (now discontinued). I know it was unpopular with hardcore fans, but I felt the range gave, IMO, a new lease of life to the series and once again began to push the boundaries in a way the series hadn't done since the early eighties.

Histeria was truly a great show. Some outstanding bits, action, satire on level with Animaniacs, and music to boot..If anyone hasn't heard the "Invasion Song" from an Histeria episode where Napolean moderates, has missed some great animation and music work that won emmies for the Animaniacs composer, whose name I cannot recall at this moment.. Some of those shows are absolute classics.

Homicide: Life On The Street. The scripts, the acting, the music and THE direction. Refreshing and stimulating. How could so many people miss such a great series????

Although I feel compelled to make a mention to BTAS and BB. I certainly wouldn't say they are the best but they are very good. For them to be the best, they'd have to remove the element aimed at children as both programmes (especially the latter) suffer from being neutered occasionally.

Simpsons.... hmm, once. It still manages at least one funny line per episode but I think Futurama is the new king on the funny side of town turf.

Farscape is the one current programme (since my choice of Homicide has already finished) I will never miss. So I think my final and rather convoluted answer is: Farscape - my favourite current programme, Homicide - THE all time great!!
