Well, Babylon 5 fans, the announcement you've been waiting for is finally here. Sort of. Warner has just issued a 12/4 street date for the first (and only?) Babylon 5 release to hit DVD. Though thematically in order, the episodes "The Gathering" and "In The Beginning" are the first season and fifth season pilots, respectively, with the former featuring a revamped cut as seen on TNT. No other information is yet available about the releases, including aspect ratio, sound formats or extras, though the retail price will be $19.95. A spokesperson for Warner stated there are no further details on the disc, and this is the only Babylon 5 release scheduled for 2001. Watch for further details to arrive soon..

I would love to buy this series on DVD, but the only way I would feel right in doing so is if they put it out on season box sets. Call me spoiled with the X Files sets, but hey, you gotta face it, they way they have been doing Star Trek and Twilight Zone and now Farscape is just too daunting, both in final number of discs that will come out, and in the pocket book. An entire X Files set runs me about ninety dollars if I shop right, and it takes up only the space of three DVDs on my shelf. Seven Babylon 5 DVDs at twenty bucks a pop, taking up more space than my three sets of X Files....? Forget it. I don't have the money or the space to keep them all.
