I might be mistaken here, but wasn't there supposed to be a new Earthbound game? I always liked the idea of a suburban RPG, and I was looking forward to it, but it seems to have completely dissapeared. Anybody know what happened? And if it was canned, might we hold out hope that we'll see one in the future for the Gamecube? I mean, it seems like Earthbound (or Mother, if you prefer), is pretty popular in Japan...

The last I heard about it was that they were working on a sequel for N64. This was a obviously long time ago and the game has since merely faded away, with no real reasons as to why it never made it. Still, I wouldn't give up the idea of one day seeing it on GC, but so far Nintendo hasn't said anything about the possibility.

Earthbound was one of my favourite RPGs on the SNES--I'm also wondering where the N64 one went. I guess things didn't pan out for some reason.

I did hear, though, that the new one was going to be more like a traditional RPG, though, where you walk around fields and countrysides instead of cities and shopping malls. Personally, I loved the suburban setting, so this didn't sound too exciting to me.

The N64 one was cancelled. There is a petition to bring it on to Gamecube at Starmen.net. I loved that game, best rpg.

That N64 one was supposed to be for the 64DD, but that never came out and neither did the game, which is a real shame! The SNES one was awesome and so was the Famicom (NES) version. I have both of them and they are so incredibly funny! I'd like to see either or both of them on the Game Boy Advance and a new one on Gamecube. Hopefully that will happen someday!
