View Full Version : Who will ultimately prevail?
You've seen the trailers, you've heard the hype. Take a look at demographics, and the history of summer blockbusters. Who Will prevail with July 3rd coming up? Who will be the heroes? The powerpuff girls or the MIB Men In Black?

This one's easy. Men in Black II. I know there's a lot of fans of the Powerpuff Girls, but there are still more people who have been waiting for over four years for a Men in Black sequel!

You have a valid point. I know powerpuff girls is a driving force alright. Theyre everywhere.
One thing i think of though is the fact that 5 years ago I went to and fell in love with MIB. 5 years ago, i was 14. Im now 19 and nearly 20.
Kids who were barely old enough to see it, or missed it and picked it up on video, will be old enough to see it this time around. The age groups have vastly expanded in 5 years, and with younger kids going to 'bigger' movies, it would really increase the audience.
This is PPG's first run though. We may be suprised, or if there is a sequel, we may get a larger fanbase to it.
For quite some time, though... I had doubts as to what i felt would be better. It stemmed from my own disbelief at what had been done to MIB.
I do not see nearly as many PPG trailers as I do MIB. I found that odd seeing how we now have PPG on the WB channel. It makes it far more accessable to everyone up here, and not just those who can afford cable.
I think it will be interesting to see the opening numbers for these two mid-week openers. Opening midweek is a strange ploy, but it does catch the 4th of july weekend crowd, as well as tack on a few extra days to tally in earnings for the first weekend totals.
I found it strange that PPG opens on the same day the big MIB does. PPG felt like a late June movie to me. Maybe they did July to nab the holiday earnings as well as deflect any damage from lilo and Stitch viewers.

Its pretty clear that MIIB will beat the Powerpuff Girls. Personally, I'm going to see both, but most people who go to movies are too interested in the Men in Black and Will Smith to consider spend 8 bucks to sit in a theatre with mothers and screaming children for a movie that may or may not live up to the kind of stuff we expect from the show.
You do have a point about screaming kids (or just kids in general).
I went to see Shrek but because it was a movie for kids as well as targeted towards adults, I enjoyed the kid's reactions. Kids are okay with me... sometimes.
I saw MIB 1 in a theater when some people brought in a kid they obviously shouldnt have broughten. Last time I heard a kid scream that loud was in Disney World's "Alien Encounters" ride with Skippy the alien and the big buggish alien transported into the room.
I waited until it got completely quiet (i had been on the ride 7 times) and I screamed "AHHHHH!!!!!! IT'S GOT MEEEE!!!!!" and some 5 year old who didnt even meet the height requirement--- screamed louder than I did... hehe... im so bad!
The original MIB movie (mib 1) nearly got an R rating for the bug scene at the end of a film.
I dont know how long PPG will be but for a short movie kids wont get bored through (i dont think) it would be MIB that comes in as short!
we'll have to see how PPG goes.

No doubt Mib2. PPG will probly be a good movie but not better than MIB2. i HOPE to go see Mib2 but i can wait to see PPG on video or TV.When it boils down to it its all about genres. And MIIB should be able to appeal to teenagers, adults and children whereas PPG will mainly appeal to just Children.

lol!! Don't get me started. I've been to Disney enough times to know what that's like. I sympathise.
But wait a minute!!! Yeah MIB is better than Power Puff Girls, but we're saying that on the basis of MIB ONE.
The way it's always happened routinly is:
(1) sequals always dissapoint SOMEONE, and that hurts the sequal itself and the franchise (whether some fans like it or not, unfortunately)
(2) the movie/franchise I don't particularly like that much always beats out what I'm loyal too. :p That's not cynicism exactly, it's just that PPG seems like that kind of franchise to me. Lots a followers....

I think Men In Black II will previal.
Hey, sometimes sequels are just as good (if not, better) than the first movie.

LOL (pulles 3-year-olds out of thin air and seats them next to nightwing)
Sequel for MIB will NEVER be as good as MIB 1. Theyre trying way too hard and they sold out big time.
Im hurt deeply by this sequel despite the fact it IS MIB.
Too bad they dissappointed me--- owner and operator of www.mibhq.com
the poll is a prediction. Not based on MIB 1. I mentioned "you've heard the hype, seen the trailers" and all that. this is what we predict and the poll will end on the 3rd of July. hehe

Depends one where your talking about. If these both come out in Japan, PPG would probably do better. Here in the US MIB2 will do better even thou it won't be as good as the original...
MIB2, duh. :p I don't know anyone that isn't going to see MIB2. When I ask people if they want to see the Powerpuff Girl movie I get some confused looks. ^_^' Another reason is because adults would rather see MIB2. Most adults could care less about the Powerpuff Girls movie.

I voted for "Men In Black," because no one knows how pointless a sequel is until they see it. "The Powerpuff Girls" are overrated and seemingly overpopular. I don't know which one I want to do better.

Powerpuff Girls is the film I'd like to see do better and I think there is a small chance... although my MONEY would rest on MIB2 - reluctantly.
Will Smith doesn't do anything for me and the first film was patchy.
PPG is clever concept. It has an adult edge to it which appeals to, er, me and the nods and tributes to the anime genre are plenty. I would hope that would be a worthy winner...

There is no compitetion- we're talking about a major blockbuster film, and a movie based off of a kids cartoon. MIIB will blow PPG (and Like Mike, thankfully) out of the water.

Oh! Don't remind me!! Everytime I see the commercial I wish for NOTHING more than to see "Like Mike" go down in flames. My wishfull prediction is that it will make three dollars in it's opening weekend. :D
And I'm not saying I'm taking the stance of how MIB2 won't make as much cuz it won't be as good as the first, I'm just saying how that's what happens with sequals 99% of the time, whether I like it or not. But I hope MIB2 does better, for the reason that the movie WILL be better.

i was thinking the same thing. I mean hes annoying but hes no britney.
I saw MIB 2. I have got to say, besides the slew of complaints you've all heard from me before--- the film was SOOOO RUSHED. Ugh! It was a nightmare. 87 minutes and all that stuff. So rushed.
Also... a lot of the sets were indeed sets. I felt it looked terrible. I know 9/11/01 may have caused them to film NYC scenes on soundstages, but you lose the effect. NYC is NYC and you cant copy it in all of it's beauty. It looked really cheezy this time around.
I love Frank the Pug!!
Get the Album--- they have him singing the full I will survive, complete with tribute to New York at the end!
I gotta love the pug!
