I just saw the first episode,,and this would be perfect for AS,,, wacky sealab/SGC2C-type humor,,hilarious characters, lots of parodies,,and theres almost no sex to speak of, so it could get by more or less unedited .

Of all the concepts that I've laughed at from people that want anime on ASC, Excel Saga is the only one I've been silent to.

Excel Saga -IS- the kind of show that ASC fans would probably enjoy. While some of its parodies may only be understood by the Japanese culture, a larger portion of the jokes are spoofs of genres that CN viewers are all-too familiar with, as well as insulting the typical anime conventions that go with them.

I don't know if it's the greatest to air on TELEVISION though. There are some scenes in it that may prove TOO outlandish. Especially the treatment to that animal.. poor guy.

Also, like I said, a lot of the jokes may be lost on people, unless ADV were to allow CN to air the version that has Pop-Up Video type bubbles explaining some of the jokes.. but that might work against the show.. since people in America don't always necessarily WANT the jokes explained to them..

(addendum)

So, no, it wouldn't go uneditted, not by a longshot. It wouldn't really affect anything either way.. we know that AS editting isn't very obtrusive.

Also, some people may have a big problem with the voice of the lead character, because it can get very grating. THis is not unintentional. In fact, it's exactly how the Japanese voice sounds too. EXACTLY.

I think Excel Saga would be a great addition to the ASC line-up.

However, it's a pity that CN won't do subtitles; watching the English dub with the English subtitles on is really helpful! :D

Let me put things this way.

They couldn't get the final episode past Japanese Censors at 1am, what makes you think they can get it through American Censors?

There is far too much in Excel Saga that relies on know-how of Japan, Japanese Culture, Anime, and Manga.

Even though I'm probley the only person to say this, but here it goes, Excel's English voice cast sucks. Its better then Love Hina's but its still bad.

It won't play on ASC. It's a show for Otaku. Most otaku, even, can't watch it and get the vast majority of the jokes without using the "pop-up video" feature on the DVD. Hell, I was lost oftentimes watching some of the episodes of my fansubs. I just think, as great as it is, it's more for the hardcore fans than Sealab watchers.

simple, dont air it.

AH!!! i think so too!!! up to now, i thought i was the only one that didnt like the ES dub (i was lying whenever i said the dub was good)

and also, dont expect any anime on tv from ADV, the response i got from them a long time ago was "if we have to edit it, then no thanks" followed by "we do what the fans want and most of the fans does not want anime on tv" followed by "the only way we're going to have anime on tv is if it is uncut". there you go, but this was a long time ago, like 2 years ago, who knows, maybe they changed their minds. (this is one of the reasons why i absolutly hate ADV)

Right, and since they won't edit their shows, and CN won't edit for the Adult Swim blocks, nothing from ADV will get shown. Not Eva, not Excel Saga, NOTHING.

I think they could air the last one with censor blocks and beeps and stuff, hell, that'd make it funnier but I still think Ecel Saga is a pisspoor excuse for a comedy show

That's probably because you just don't get it.

I thought Jessica generally captured the *spirit* of Excel, but the director IMO told her to overdo it with her voice. While Jessica was sometimes directed to shout all her lines, the Japanese VA (Mitsuishi) sometimes just talked very fast, but not necessarily shouted *as* much (though she still shouts quite a lot). I think the pitch of Jessica's voice was overworked, and that's one reason why she may have injured it.

Well the final episode was also censored when it was orginally aired in Japan with censor blocks that basically said "If you wanna see this buy the video" and I believe that ADV said that they had the rights to both versions of the final ep, so it wouldn't be out of the question.

between the japanese culture jokes to the fact that the final episode would be edited (the opening would probably have to be cut as well) heavely i dont think it would be worth the time for them to put it on CN. i love this show with a passion and i really feel that it wouldnt be appreciated by a majority of the audience although i think it would go over well with the Sea Lab 2021 fans pretty well.

as for the dub of it...it is different...but it is accurate. the only person on the show that they took any liberties with was Nabenshin. Excel sounds exactly as she should, the dub voice for Hayatt is just to sweet and cute, and even though they did change up the dialogue for the afro man they made him sound like Samuel L Jackson, i believe they even had him qouting from Pulp Fiction in the second episode.

I personaly would love to see Excel Saga go up on ASA. It has plenty of action and wild comedy the average ASA fan would like. As for the Japanese culture jokes the "pop-up subtitiles" could help solve that problem. And even though I've only seen the first 5 episodes (since I'm not one of those people who download all their anime or spoilers off the net) and I wouldn't know anything about the content or plot in the last episode (yet I don't want anyone to post spoilers or anything like that) to be edited. Otherwise for my personal opinion, Excel Saga is one of my top 10 favorite animes it should be on ASA as much as Trigun or Eva deserves to be on. Unfortunally its true that ADV won't have any of their animation on ASA.

If nothing else, the Afro Song should be shown as a music video.

The last epsidoe could be edited but in a good way, with bleed and black censor blocks and stuff, that'd make it even funnier man.

It'd probably catch on since it has a very WS-ish feel to it,just fast paced random stuff.

Excel Saga won't be coming, Eva won't either. Go to Australia or Europe if you want edgy anime on TV. Or buy the DVDs. Or quit whining =)

ive been saying that for years now that people should just go out and buy the dvds or vhs for themselves to watch anime...i have been doing that for the past 10 years and it hasnt stunted my growth yet.

I absolutely LOVE Excel Saga...but I suspect you will never see it on TV. WAY to many Japanese pop culture references. Even the AD-Notes from the DVD release relies on a general knowlege of Anime/Japanese culture to some degree. This is a show for the dedicated anime lover, not the casual watcher, not without a HECK of a lot more notes.
