Gosh, man! You beat me to it!!!!!

Anyway, worth noting...today's ACME started and ended with a Blue Ribbon without credits....I guess that was the specialty of the day.

And no particular theme, either!

I'm definately watching the repeat, I want to see "Quentin Quail" which I don't think I've ever seen.

Three or four of the cartoons had bird characters, did "Popeye Makes A Movie" and "Katnip Kolledge" have any birds in them? Also, why is a Blue Ribbon without credits at the end a "specialty?"

Something was decidedly fishy about the Acme Hour today.

No wonder they showed Popeye Makes a Movie (an almost 10-minute film) today. CN showed it so they could fill in extra time because of edits in The Little Wise Quacker and I Taw A Putty Tat (edited because of blackface gags).

Once again, power rules over popularity to the disgust amongst us cartoon fanatics.

We can still see the last of Barney's blackface in "Little Wise Quacker". After the fake fade out, put it in slow motion, and you'll see Barney's huge lips. Also, the blackfaces in both cartoons aren't long to begin with.

Does anyone have an unedited version of "The Little Wise Quacker"? I've never seen this one in its unedited version. Perhaps maybe some still shots. I'd love to see Barney Bear in blackface!!

CN would not air a long cartoon because of edits in a different cartoon. They could always air Groovies at the end. (or worse yet, an extra advertisement for Samurai Jack)

Boy they sure do show a lot of ads for that Samurai Jack, don't they? The last several times I've watched a show on CN that ended early, they've shown Samurai Jack ads. And it's always the exact same (incredibly long) ad! I believe my brother (who's actually an anime fan, which this show is, kinda; it's an American anime) said it best last night: "You know, I think I hate Samurai Jack and I haven't even seen it yet."

Finally able to access the TTTP again (and....loving it!),

Well, I just saw "Quenton Quail," and I found it funny in a sort of offbeat way. I'm pretty sure I've seen it at least once before because the characters seemed familiar, but it's kind of fun to forget all about a cartoon and see it like the first time again. It makes it that much funnier. I liked how the quails walked, no leg movements, just blurrs like the Road Runner. Jones cartoons from the mid 40s are strangely animated, I think. It's very fluid (?), but can look a little sloppy at times, it's hard to describe, but it's very different from the cute and realistic cartoons of the early 40s and the clean looking cartoons of the late 40s. I thought the father was funnier than Toots, eccept in the scene where she just goes off and grabs the worm.

Also, it was fun seeing "Katnip Kolledge" again, the first time I saw it was a few months ago. It's still as enjoyable as ever, lots of pep in that cartoon. The song, "It's Easy, as Rolling Off A Log," is so catchy too, and the cats sing it in such a great jumpy manner, it's so easy to see why this cartoon's score is going to be included in the new CDs to come out soon.

I am also growing tired of the Samarai Jack previews. I loved the preview when I first saw it, and I'm definately going to check the show out, but CN really has a way of running something into the ground to the point that one feels they've seen a show they never watch a millon times. I began to really hate Cartoon Cartoon fridays because they ran that "Cartoon Cartoon Summer" ad so much.

Anyone else see the can of FRIZ in "I Taw A Putty Tat?"

I taw it! I taw it! (There were some other names on other cupboard items too...)

And in "Katnip Kollege", I already knew about the Prof Dalton statue gag (http://gregbrian.tripod.com/hidden/hid02.html#katnip) but I just noticed another gag - during part of the classroom scene you can read "Hold the onions" on the chalkboard.

[Hey Tuco - if you're listening, you need to add this one to your list of "hold the onions" sightings). :)

I hope OSMOSIS JONES gets released (and bombs at the box office) pretty soon... I never want to hear "You're dealin' with a white blood cell here!" or "Why'd you hit so hard??" ever again. I'd rather hear Shirley Temple singing about those animal crackers in her soup again...

But Jon, everyone should love Osmosis Jones, "HE'S ONE CELL OF A GUY!"

Who also yearns (maybe that's not the right word) for that curly top kid...

Well, I know the ads are tiring, but I wouldn't want it to bomb. If it does, the suits at Warner Bros would just see it as a sign they have no future doing feature-length animated movies. Which would essentially mean no Looney Tunes movie. And while I don't exactly relish the idea of another Space Jam-type flick, it would definitely throw the classic cartoons back in the public eye, and maybe Warner's would finally release a DVD or two. Remember, the last really good Looney Tunes collection was the "Stars of Space Jam" series.......

For those who don't know, "San Quentin quail" is a slang term for an underaged girl one can be arrested for having relations with, so there's a hint of dodginess in the title. And I know this cartoon was made before her time, but darn if Toots doesn't sound a lot like Carol Kane (Taxi)!

I still think that girl cat is "Katnip Kolledge" is adorable! Sort of like a feline Betty Boop....

A blackface gag was also cut from "Puddy Tat", as Crazy Tom mentioned--Sylvester goes from a Swedish maid to a Mammy after the firecracker blows in his face....
