Anyone know what happened to Thomas "Timber" Wolf?

I was wondering, whatever happened to the series of 13 Chuck Jones online cartoons we were supposed to see beginning about one year ago?
Have they been cancelled? Delayed? Was there ever an announcement about why they hadn't happened?

Just wondering...

I don't know, but I came accross an article from August 2000 that said pre-production was just about to start, so they may still be working on it. Perhaps it will premier after "Toon Marooned" ends. I was sort of looking forward to it, even though I didn't have hight hopes after reading about it and seeing the character (very fluffy).

Well, wasn't it going to premiere on the now-defunct Entertaindom.com? Perhaps when it shut down they halted all productions for that site.

It would be really cool to see it turn up on looneytunes.com a la "Toon Maroon," but it would all depend on if Warner Bros. wants to lump Timber alongside with the classic characters.

They could say something like:

"Hey kids, meet the newest addition to the Looney Tunes family:
Thomas "Timber" Wolf!"

The press releases said it would appear on both entertaindom and the WB site (warnerbros.com). The first one was supposed to be shown in the fall of 2000.

New characters?!? That's worse than new cartoons (which are not so good)

<< New characters?!? That's worse than new cartoons (which are not so good) >>

That's kind of where my query of where they will put him stemmed from (although it really had nothing to do with how I personally felt about the new cartoons). The only new character that was created for the Chuck Jones Productions shorts was the little bird Cornbread in "Father of the Bird." And since that was a costly film to produce and pretty much just leave it in the can, Warner Bros. may be cautious about presenting a "new" Looney Tunes character when they have more than enough classic guys to make money off.

Also, with this new idealism at AOL Time Warner that every non-movie fictional character has to belong to some licensing "group" (either Looney Tunes, Cartoon Network--not Hanna-Barbera mind you, or DC Comics), I am very curious to see what they do with Timber if anything at all.

One thing's for sure, though, we won't be seeing him as a bean bag at a Studio Store. :(

What ever became of Jones' "Daffy Duck For President" cartoon? From my understanding, it was going to be a cartoon and Jones was also going to release a book with the same title. Was it finished and just didn't get a wide release (like "Little Go Beep")?

It says at Your very own website (http://www.megalink.net/~cooke/looney/WBchecklist.html) that it is unreleased. Outside of Toonzone, I've never even heard of it.

I am aware of what it says on the website. Geez...

I remember reading of it in a either news article or a press release about Chuck Jones awhile ago. This was back in 1999, I think. I haven't anything about it since. I was only checking to see if anyone had heard anything new. If I don't hear anything new... I will remove it from the filmography.

Jon, I would say it's safe to remove it. The only mention of a release date was in a Time Warner corporate newsletter. It said both the short and the book were to be out in November, 2000. I am about 99% sure I still have the newsletter, which I think included a tiny little image of Daffy next to the title. I can hopefully double check all of this info.

New characters?!? That's worse than new cartoons (which are not so good) I personally have no objection to new cartoons or to new characters, so long as they are entertaining. Sorry, I'm not somebody who feels all entertainment should have been shut down before 1970, and we can only watch stuff made before then :D

Think about it. Why should we feel privileged to deal with what are basically left-overs? I want to claim something as my own! Yes, the LT/MM cartoons are classics, but they're all over 35 years old at least. How come our generation isn't entitled to have a shot at enjoying new things simply because the previous generation(s) had great entertainment, too?

I love the LT/MM stuff, but I envy those kids of the 40's and 50's, sitting in a theater watching a Porky Pig or Bugs Bunny short for the first time, or watching Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote debut.

I'm all for the tried-and-true, but I don't think the world should stagnate in such cases. Let them try something new. Who knows...if they're bad, they're bad. But if not, 20 or 40 years from now, we'll be able to look back at this time and see that we watched history in the making. Just like those kids in the 40's.

IS he a new Looney Tune character? I thought he was just an entirely separate character coincidentally created by one of the classic directors for the same company. Let's face it, the Warner Bros. galaxy is HUGE. First there's the Looney Tunes universe (the "Looniverse" if you will) which includes all the classic shorts AND "Space Jam," "Blooper Bunny," "Taz-Mania," "Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries," etc. Then there's the TTA universe which was basically created from the Looniverse in which Looniverse inhabitants occasionally venture into. Then there's the Animaniacs universe. Then there's the DC universe. Sadly, there are even universes for Scooby Doo, The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Dexter, Ed, Edd, and Eddie. Anyway Timber Wolf as far as I'm concerned has nothing to do with Looney Tunes, unless he is some how connected to one of the classic characters (he looks like he could be Ralph Wolf's uncle.) IMHO he would be better as an entirely separate character.

You are correct. He was to be a new Chuck Jones character but not part of Looney Tunes.

FWIW, here's an article from about a year ago (http://www.usatoday.com/life/cyber/tech/cti393.htm) on the subject. According to it, the first cartoon was supposed to be online last November.
