I never thought I'd see the day, but cruising through another message board I saw it. Two quotes following are from people who *gasp* didn't like LofR.

"Biggest disappointment:

The Fellowship of the Ring - choppy editing, frenetic camera work and too many over the top battle scenes ultimately bog down what should have been the movie of the year. "

"The movie, to me, was just one set action piece after another, with very little variation between the sequences. It was breutifully filmed, to be sure, but lacked heart."

Sad but true....

There is never going to be a movie that "everyone" will love, so these things happen...and more often than you will realize.

I enjoyed LOTR, but I didn't "love" it. Just my own prefrence.

Well, although I loved Fellowship, I didnt think it was perfect. I had more than a few problems with it. But then its my alltime fave book which I've read many times.

There were several scenes which I didn't like how Jackson recreated/adapted them to film (mainly the council of Rivendell, and the Gandalf/Saruman confrontation scenes). Also there were changes that I didnt like (mainly surrounding Sarumans early actions and his motivations, as well as Aragorns motivations/background). And then there was the characterisation of Gimli, which seemed a caricature of Dwarves rather than how Gimli appeared in the novel.

I also felt that, there could have been a bit less action. Jackson seemed to cut all the stuff in between each of the action set pieces from the book. Thus it felt like the fellowship were running all the time. Of course the extra half-hour might solve this problem for me.

Given how the dialog heavy scenes in Fellowship were treated, I'm guessing my fave TT scene (the Parley with Saruman will be similarly trimmed/rewritten totally).

Of course I still have the BBC radioplay I can listen too. Now THAT was a GOOD adaption.

Still, I cant wait till December...

I thought the frantic camera work was great - it added some dynamic to the movie when required. They made the fights became far more involving that they would have been...

Lacked heart? It wasn't perfect, but I think there was a great deal of heart. Visually and in the story itself. Each to their own..

Welcome Yurika !

Anyway, your NEVER going to please everyone when it comes to movies with big expectations. LoTR was one of thsoe films. Some peopel are just too picky and don't know when to shut up and enjoy something, thats made for entertainment.

Too picky? Those are both genuine complaints, and I completely understand why they have them. Plus not complaining about what you don't like would result in stuff like... oh, I dunno, a sequel to Battlefield: Earth.

Now complaining about reasonable complaints, *that's* silly. And complaining about complaining about reasonable complaints? Let's not go there! :)

One of Toonzone's own mods, Maxie Zeus, ripped LOTR a new one on its opening day.
