[indent]Fox will be backing their Nov. 26th DVD and VHS release with an $85 million, yes $85 million, ad campaign. That is their biggest marketing campaign for a home video release ever. It looks like this studio is suddenly getting behind their animated property in a big way. Also this release of Ice Age will include even more Scrat! Everone's favorite prehistoric rodent will have his own never before seen short included with the movie called "Scrat's Missing Adventure". No word yet on whether Scrat's acorn will be involved. So they would have to sell at least 2.84 million copies just to make up for the ad campaign? Fox better hope that I'd buy one.

[indent]Actually, 2.84 million copies shouldn't be much of a problem. Before we get to that however it should be noted that this campaign also covers the rental market and thus the copies Fox needs to sell to cover their costs is substantially lower. That being said, we'll use another populat CG film for comparison, Shrek sold 2.5 million copies in it's first 3 days of release. Actually, this is just the DVD sales figure. If you add to that whatever the VHS sales figure you get even more money in the bank. For the full story on Shrek's home video debut check out this link:

Hmm. I wasn't planning on getting Ice Age, but Scrat's Missing Adventure sounds kinda cool. If the extra features are good enough, I might have to reconsider.

Well I guess your right about the other media formats covering the cost but spending $85 million on promotion? These are basically titles ported from a theater that later sell themselves without a whole lot of promotion. ;)
