View Full Version : Could it be that there are still UNAIRED BTAS/TNBA episodes?
Did you ever get the thought that there might be still a few episodes they didn't air for some reason? I always wondered why ON LEATHER WINGS was the first episode. Isn't it a strange episode to lauch the series? I think it could be that there was an episode before that, I'm thinking of the an episode with the first encounter between the Batman and the Joker, and his origin. I always wanted to see that in the animated version. Wouldn't it be cool? :)
I image it could be like this:
Jack Napier (or whoever he used to be) broke in the Ace Chemical Plant, encountered Batman, fell into the tank and in the end was the first big fight between Batman and the Joker. The police witnessed the encounters and decide to chase Batman.
The ON LEATHER WINGS would be the perfect installment.

Here's what Timm had to say about "On Leather Wings:"
"To me, this is almost the quintissential episode of the show," said producer Bruce Timm. "It's got almost everything in it that you want, the mood, the mystery, and Batman's really cool. It's got this great villain, and it's scary, exciting, and funny."
I think it's a great start to the show, personally. Even the title sets a good mood for the series. Why do all shows have to start out with an origin? Why can't they throw you into the middle of the situation and let the rest of the episodes explain the past? Just my thoughts...
EDIT: Is it just me, or have I seen a picture somewhere of Jack Napier, before he became the Joker, drawn in the B:TAS style?

Yeah, In Mask of the Phantasm, they showed it. I think they also showed a pre-accident pic of Joker in "Beware the Creeper" too, but I'm not sure.

That's where it must have been! Thanks man. By the way, the Joker is really twisted in Mask of the Phantasm, eh?... I wish they had been able to do more episodes of the show in that vein.

i agree, i wish we had more joker eps where the joker was as good as he was in "motp". Is it just me, or were some of the joker eps alittle, i dont know, lacking, when help up against the really "great" episodes? I mean, the joker was definately made into the best, most evil villian on the show, but alot of his eps werent THAT great. They were good, but some werent, like for instance, "christmas with the joker" was good, but the animation wasnt very good. "be a clown" was also good, but i dont think it really highlighted the jokers insanity. "the laughing fish" was great, "Joker's wild" was just okay, and some parts were animated really awkward, like jokers nose seemed abnormally big in it. "Jokers favor" was great, imo. "Joker's millions" wasnt so great. I guess what i'm saying is out of the many joker eps, there arent many eps that are perfect, in the way that, for instance, "heart of ice" or "over the edge" were perfect. "the last laugh" was okay, but just okay. But overall joker is definately the best. Like, in " almost got em" Joker was awesome, and in "harley and ivy" and "world's finest" joker was great, but those werent really 'joker' eps. i dont know, i loved the joker episodes, but sometimes (just sometimes) i think they could have done more with the joker, given the number of episodes he was in. what do you guys think? peace.

Actually there is one episode, dubbed NOCTURNA. that was never done. It was storyboarded and designs were done for it, but the network put a halt to it. The episode invoilved Batman being bit by a female vampire and spending the episode hunting her down to get the cure, ending with a battle between the two, and Batman eventually being cured. It was deemed too dark and was shelved. It was supposed to run with the first 60 episodes.

that would be sweet to include on the B:TAS DVD's....I really wanna see it....REAL bad.. :)
They could animate it and all of that for a special DVD release..I mean..I'd pay $20 just to see that episode.

Jeeeezzz, that sucks! That could have made for a great episode. Where did you hear about that?
All this network control... Imagine what we could have got if Fox had held a "hands-off" approach to TAS. It's already my favorite cartoon ever, but I'm just saying it could have been even greater.

I'd also like to see more Joker episodes but the Joker was the most featured villain in the series. I really wish they were making an episode about his origin. I bet they didn't make it because they expected everyone to know it because of the 1989 movie.
BTW did you guys ever notice that in the 1st season only about 50% of the episodes featured the classical Arkham inmates? I guess they realised that this was not enough so in season 2 & 3 they barely had any episodes without the super villians.
I think it was a big mistake that they made so many Penguin episodes, I guess they made so many because he was the main villain in Batman Returns.
They should have made more Two-Face episodes, he appeared in about 10 episodes only :(

I read about it in an old issue of Comic Scene from 1993 or so when they interviewed TImm around the time of MOTP. They also had the design for Nocturna. Think Inque but with a dark Spectre-like cowl and yellow freaky eyes and slicked back hair. I would love to find that issue again. The episode sounded so cool. But from what I read of it, I don't think it even would have made it on KWB. Remember how FOX KIDS made (Spider-Man villian) Morbius a plasma obsessed "bat" who sucked blood through suckers on his hand? No way FK woulda done that Nocturna ep.

What are the chances they will be able to finish the animation on this lost episode? Even if we have to settle for the story boards on the DVD, I'll take it.
It sounds like a great episode, tho. Too bad they couldn't turn it into a direct to video movie.

I can already picture this episode in my head and it just seems amazing. I can totally understand why FOX KIDS wouldn't allow this episode to be produced.

Well quick question, how do you cut and paste messages so people know which post you're responding too? Anyway for the person who said that they used more villians from Arkham for the second season, and less gangsters, I remember reading in the Hero special eddition of Batman, that it was done becuase the kids fox polled wanted "to see Batman fight Joker, and less gangsters." Also, while were talking about episodes which weren't made, they had an idea for an episode that had a Catwoman/Black Canary episode. It got axed becuase it "didn't include Robin."

Well, if you hit "Reply" on the post you want to respond to, it should automatically include that post's text in your edit field. Then just do normal word processing cut, copy & paste.
If you want to quote from other messages, scroll down below the text editor screen, and many (and usually all) of the other posts in the thread will be printed below. Again, you can highlight the text you want, and copy it into your text field.
Does that help, or did I misunderstand your question?

Yeah, i guess that would have been a little too dark for the network. But it would be perfect for us!!!
And i don't have much Spidey exposure other than the Fox Kids show, so how was Morbius different in the comics?

Morbius? He was mostly the same in the comics... weird degenerative condition that gave him powers but required him to replace his blood. But the comic version got his blood the old-fashioned way... the classic chomp n' suck.

Glad to help. There are a lot of things on this board that I still haven't figured out.
I bet we'd get some nice dark episodes, including Vampire ones if Timm and Dini were given the controls to a anything goes HBO show like Spawn. Itd be the Batman everyone dreams of seeing, and Timm could finally do blood and death to create a dark past for the heroes. Its probably the only thing that would be non-pornographic on late night HBO too if they did it. But of course, Batman on HBO is a far fetched reidiculous idea at the time....but we can still dream ............
