I'm watching "curse of the kobra" right now (eh, not a bad way to spend a sunday) and i was thinking, I wish max would have had an episode or two where she's sort of fighting by terry's side. I thought it was cool how she helped out in the fight with the jokerz at the arcade, and how she wooped those egyptian looking honeys on the ship, so i wish she could have helped alittle more like that, instead of always infront of her computer. Dont get me wrong, i wouldnt want it to become a regular thing, but it would have been nice to see in an episode or two (more like just one). what do you guys think? maybe she could wear a mask like how terry did in "lost soul", not a costume, just a robin or nightwing like mask? All you max haters out there, please be kind in you responses :) peace.
To say that I would have LOVED something like that would be a gross understatement for this huge Max fan. But she did sort of help out -- not with the fighting, but in another important way -- in Final Cut.
As for her actually suiting up . . . I don't know about that. I liked Max-as-civilian. Putting her in costume would have been kinda lame, I think. Even putting her in a mask would have seemed out of place. I dunno . . .
But given the opportunity, Max has proven that she can kick butt.

Like I said in another thread, as long as Max doesn't go Batgirl Beyond on us, I'd like to see her taking down some baddies alongside Terry or Batman...

I've never been a fan of Batty having ANY sidekick and I think that Terry has enough problems in becoming the Batman without having to look after little Miss Perfect.
She can fight, providing it's several hundred miles away from Terry - in a box - with several angry mice - and that she loses.... oh yeah, and we don't have to see any of it on my TV screen....

Well it sounds like what DP is looking for is to have Max pull her weight physically speaking in one of BB's higher up episodes. That way we would enjoy the episode AND Max very much because she played a good role in it.
I mean, she's done that sort of thing before, but it's not always in really good episodes.

I couldn't of said it any better. I like seeing her as herself beatin the snot out of some thugs. But if she threw on a mask I would definately shut the show off.

I certainly wouldn't. Involve her in the fights and it diminishes the power from Terry and Bruce's role, IMO. If you are a superhero fine. If you are a computer wizkid and start bashing a few thugs along with the main hero, crediablilty is threatened and the strength of the main character is weakened.
Keep her away. As I said, keep her in the background along with the other characters on the same level as Dana and Nelson - that would be fine.
Problem with Max is... well, if Max was in it from the beginning I may be a little more forgiving about her. I wouldn't know any other way. She wasn't, and I have had a whole season to watch before Max and it was far better than the episodes where she came to the foreground.
The only fist fights she should be in is with the fans and I wouldn't fancy her chances....

yeah, but you CANT seriously blame Max for some of the lousy episodes. Sure, the pre-max eps were much better, but thats due to better writing, not max. For example, see "out of the past", one of the best eps, and it had max. so i feel when used right, max can be great. and if you think about it, during the btas days, we had a lot of episodes before robin appeared, so just because she was introduced mid-way has little to do with it. but i understand your points, and hey, i guess some people just DONT LIKE max. i'm glad i'm not one of them, cause i could when i watch an episode with max, i cant spot the parts when you max hatters would be getting annoyed, and theres alot of parts like that, so i'm glad i dont have a problem with her or some episodes may be hard to watch. peace.

"The Max Hatter"? Wasn't that Spellbinder's third cousin on his mother's side? :D
Seriously, though, I'm not fond of Max, but she has her moments. And I will forgive her most anything simply because she was necessary for "Hidden Agenda," which I thought was very good.

My favourite 'Max' episode was 'Where's Terry?'. Not for just for the excellent ending with Max being carted away by the police, but for the excellent interaction she has with Bruce throughout the episode. If they had mixed her more evenly with what I consider the more important characters (Gordon/Wayne/Dana) I think Max would have been an interesting addition. She juxtaposes Wayne perfectly in this on both serious and comical levels. They should have done more Wayne/Max episodes.
I'll second that. More Max/Wayne eps would have been good, but then there'd be complaints that this is BatMAN Beyond (as in Terry/Wayne), not supergenuis pink-haired girl Beyond (Max/Wayne).
I'm in agreement with Derek P: WHEN Max was introduced is beside the point. He hit it right on the head with the BTAS and Robin example. I still ove her character, and I'll bow to the fact that some people hate her like poison. I ain't mad at ya . . . we're all batfans here :)
The one thing I did kinda raise my eyebrows at was how they made Max and Terry such fast friends seemingly out of nowhere. In Bloodsport, she didn't even know who Matt was. And then in Hidden Agenda, she's all of a sudden his babysitter? That just seemed a little odd to me.
Maybe I'm in the minority who thinks Max was used just fine in every ep she appeared in. If Dana had been given a little bit more development, then I could see the point about her needing to get more ink . . . but she wasn't, so she didn't. To me, that's the end of the Dana story.

I'd rather have had the episodes explore the Terry/Wayne/Max dynamic than what we actually had - Wayne kicked into the background and Max moved waaaay to far into the action... I think if they had treated the other characters with a little more respect, and Max with less of a heavy hand, she would not be receiving such antagonism from the fans.

As Maxie pointed out in the sister post to this one, you are very happy to judge merely on what the storyline presented us, rather than what should have/didn't have happen due to sloppy writing/internal politics. I really do commend this, I have a hard time doing this on this topic (the one show when this outlook presents me with a problem), possibly because Max, in the method that she was used, simply spoiled my favourite show - totally and utterly. Being more endeared to Max, I think -IMO- that it's easier to dimiss the writing and creatice errors of Max and her overburden.
but she wasn't, so she didn't. To me, that's the end of the Dana story.
... and the beginning of Max's. As you can see, I harbour a lot of resentment on this score. Max REALLY ruined it for me. However, I'll try and level with any internal points to the characters that you present and not hark back to the -again IMO- crass overuse of Max!!!
