I recently browsed Jerry Beck's site, and thumbed through the archive/FAQ, just to see what was updated. He told us to keep our eyes out for a new "Classic Popeye" show to appear on Sunday nights.

A new Popeye show? Maybe they are going to show them in new versions. What version do you think we'll be getting?

From what I can remember, I do believe the B & W Popeyes are being restored with their original openings unlike some of the Famous titles which have opening from other cartoons pasted on them to make them appeared to be restored. You can spot these a mile away.

Personally, I like the AAP openings. Why don't they just show those? I can't stand to watch the redrawns -- they're just too awful to watch.

WHY AREN'T THE POPEYE CARTOONS RELEASED ON VIDEO?

Believe it or not, Warner Bros. and King Features are finally talking and are expected to make a deal soon. Keep watching my NEWS page for the latest developments. Keep your eyes open for a new "Classic Popeye" Show on Cartoon Network, to air Sunday nights next to TOONHEADS.

So I guess we will be losing one episode of Toonheads. That's OK, they get repeated too quickly, running 2 episodes a week.

I wonder if this will be part of Adult Swim? I guess so, since that will be on Sun. nights. If they're putting Toonheads in Adult Swim, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for new episodes.

I've been thinking about trying to tape thw B&W Popeyes, now I have to consider whether I should wait for the home video release or just try to tape this show when it comes on. I guess I'll have to hear more before I can make a decision. I could start taping them off of LNB&W. but I guess there's no point to put in the effort of colllecting them 2 at a time, and dealing with repeats, if there would be a Popeye show. Hopefully this will show all of the Fleischer Popeyes, I don't think that there was anything that they did in that series that was less PC than what they showed on the Clampett show.

Of course, I would much rather see B&W with restored Paramount logos, but knowing Cargoon Networm, I chose choice #1.

Steve:

Recall that much like with Warner toons, CN is not the supplier, Warner Animation -- by acquisition of Turner's library -- is. If they know where real Par openings are, good for them!!! :D

Argus:

They're not going to start another show just to show us redrawns again...ya silly! {BEEee-whoop!} And who would do computer colorizing?

Joe Tully:

Adult Swim is something else entirely. It's been well-established that classic toons won't be any part of it.

Trust me on this one fellas, tape the B&W Popeye cartoons on LNB&W NOW, which is your best bet....
In my opinion, it's going to take a few more years until AOL/TIME WARNER and KING FEATURES will see fit to release the B&W Popeye's on video/dvd, considering the TW is only (at this point) interested in coming out with CN home made cartoons. such as:The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Labortory, and more Scooby Doo crap.

I been taping the B&W Fleischer/Famous Popeye cartoons since the birth of CN, knowing the it will be years until one of the companies will decide if the cartoons will ever see the light of day on home video.

So tape them off CN...you'll be better off that way

True, but it's a real shame.:(

Is Scooby Doo really a CN home made cartoon? I thought it was Hanna-Barbera.

Scooby Doo was created by Hanna-Barbera, and Hanna Barbera is pretty much Cartoon Network Studios now. The name "Hanna Barbera" is now only used when concerning the old HB characters and shows, it only exists in name, I believe. Some of the earlier Cartoon Cartoons were made by H-B, I recal seeing their logo on Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, and Powerpuff Girls (PPG used an older logo from the late 70s or early 80s, unlike the other shows).

I think that at first, the Cartoon Cartoons were created in the H-B school of cartooning, they referenced old H-B a lot in the shows and commercials. Now the Cartoon Cartoons are going in a direction all their own, I personally don't like it too much, but that's just my personal opinion.

I was kind of hoping that they would leave Toonheads in the slot where it's been, actually, which would have left it in the Adult Swim block. I know that they've told us about all of the new shows they've been developing...just wasn't sure about the actual schedule. (The anime Cowboy Bebop was only recently revealed to be part of Adult Swim, for example.) I have a bad habit of being too optimistic about things & being let down. Oh well...

I wonder where they'll be putting Toonheads? I can't see them dropping it. Adult Swim will take over Thurs. and Sun. from 10 to 1. Maybe just on Fri.? Or would they move it to Sat.

See The second post in this thread (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2327) for the Toonheads September time. It is on the first page.

That should help!

Thanks, Sveven. I had forgotten about that post. I could remember that LNB&W was a half hour later but forgot why.
