Okay, we know how Joker, Bane, Ra's Al Goul, Talia, and Mr. Freeze end up. But what could have happened to the Riddler? Clayface? Scarecrow? Though we'll probably never find out, I have a few ideas of my own. Tell me what you think. Can you guys think of any more villains and their demises?

Scarface/Ventriloquist - The Scarface personality never truly goes away, forever tormenting the Ventriloquist. Likewise, it's Ventriloquist's body, so Scarface can never control it by himself. After constantly battling each other in a grueling mental showdown, whoever gained the upper hand committed suicide in order to murder the other that he so hates.

Clayface - As we saw in BTAS, at one point Matt Hagen's body couldn't hold itself together without treatments. I think its safe to assume that his body kept deteriorating until he fell apart.

Penguin - This rich bird was always pulling scams or hiring people to do jobs for him (like Roxy Rocket). He might have double crossed someone. That person got mad, came back and shot poor Penguin.

Two-Face - With Two-Face it was always about stealing money (robbing banks and robbing gangs) or revenge (killing gangs, enemies, or for no reason at all). With all this violence, all it would take is one bullet and one clear shot. BANG! Two-Face dies in a shootout.

Mad Hatter - Gervase Tech never fought with his fists but with his brain. During a lunch in Arkham's canteen, a riot broke out. A big riot. Defenseless, the Hatter was beaten to death in the commotion. And was stabbed with a spoon!

Catwoman - Catwoman was always a traveller. She was a girl that sought after cat-based jewels and artifacts. In some dark ruins on the islands of South America, she stumbled upon a 2 foot long jade molded cat statue. Not passing up the chance, she stole it. Once outside, she was stopped by a small native tribe. The tribe chief ordered that she be irradicated for trespassing on holy ground. In a mad rush, the now older Catwoman was no match for the hundreds of tribesmen scattered through out the island. Eventually she reached a cliff. It was either stay and be filled with spears like a pin cusion, or jump. Taking the chance, she leaped off, hoping to grab a vine or rock protrudence with her whip. But her day did come. She missed the rock and plummetted to her death. Smashing against a rock on the waves, her heaving chest gave her last breath as her eyes closed. A smile of sweet victory of escape lay on her face when she died. Her hands still grasped the jade cat, a thief to the end.

Killer Croc - The last we saw him, it was in Love Is A Croc, and he was going to be on trial for murder. My guess? He was convicted and sentenced lethal to injection.

Baby Doll - Also in Love Is A Croc, we saw how Baby Doll falls in love with people who are like her. I think she began to fall in love with Scarface! Why? Because they had so much in common! They both were the same height. People treated them like toys. They were both adults in little bodies. So Baby Doll found Scarface and tried to swoon him. Too cold to love anyone, Scarface called her a "...."and threw her out. Heartbroken and convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that no one loved her, Baby Doll shot herself with her doll/tommy-gun.

Clock King - Oh, the possibilities! Anything could have driven this man completely insane. His watch could have stopped. He was sentenced to community service in a stock market. He saw someone forget about daylight savings.

Can you guys think of endings for Riddler, Scarecrow, Andrea Beaumont/Phantasm, etc?

Well, these are just jokes, but:

Riddler: Since the TNBA times, he was a devout head-shaver. However, and accident soon occured that ended his life and reminded everyone to never just take "a little off the top."

Scarecrow: The Rogue's Galery's most humiliating defeat. Someone came up behind him and pulled that nuce (sp?) around his neck. Ya can't say he wasn't asking for it though:)

I'll let someone else take Phantasm...

SCARECROW: Exposure to his own triple-strength fear gas caused a massive fright reaction that increased his adrenaline levels too heavily, and he dropped dead of a massive coronary.

ANDREA BEAUMONT: Undramatically slit her wrists in the bathtub; left some cryptic blood-stained note behind that the cops couldn't comprehend. Possibly a Bible verse with personal meaning to her.

TWO-FACE: "The Judge" sentenced him to the electric chair for his crimes.

KIRK LANGSTROM/MANBAT: Flew into power lines and fried himelf.

CLAYFACE: Made the mistake of going out during a heat wave and dried up.

MAD HATTER: Either killed in a prison riot, or one of his own inventions backfired and turned his brain to porridge.

RIDDLER: Brain tumor. That would explain the shaven head (chemotherapy). Fitting end for a man who valued the brain above all....

POISON IVY: Trampled or strangled by one of her own freakish plant hybrids.

What about Two-Face eventually being "saved"? What I always loved about the Batman/Two-Face conflict was that ultimately, Bruce wanted to help him. Bruce and Harvey were great friends after all. I think that would be the best ending for both of them.

As for Andrea, I think it would have been great if she'd eventually returned to Bruce. She wanted vengeance for what had happened to her and her father, going after the gang members one by one. Joker was the last one left, but I doubt his death in ROTJ truly erased any of the pain she felt. It's similar to what Grayson was going through in "Batman Forever." He wanted to kill Two-Face, to which Bruce said that if he did, it wouldn't end there. He'd need another face, and another, then another. The pain would never go away and soon his whole life would be about revenge. I'd guess that Andrea would eventually realize that. Killing as the Phantasm truly didn't bring her what she thought it would. With that realization, who better to go to than Bruce. She could deal with her pain in the same way that he did, by being a "dark knight" and not a killer. Andrea could be his partner in his fight against crime, and as his wife, his partner in life.

Does anyone have a copy of the interview (just before the BB premiere) where Paul Dini made up jokey fates for the classic villains? (E.g., Two Face got plastic surgery and became a Hollywood lawyer.) I'd love to read that again; it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I actually wanted to write a last of the Riddler BB fanfic once. He was reformed and quietly dying in a nursing home when his old ways came back to haunt Gotham in the form of a Y2KL virus, programmed to shut down computers on January 1, 2050. The crux of the story was that he would finally learn the answer to the greatest riddle: who is Batman, anyway? And then, I don't know what. He and Bruce put the virus to bed and he goes away to die. I never put much thought into it.

That sounds nice, a good change of pace. The idea of some of the old villains dying peacefully has a warm, humane glow to it.

Well, I'll think about it and see if I want to do something with after all. Feel free to use it for your own if you like, Maxie.

i think being clayface has made him able to live a verrrrrrrry long time, well into batman beyond's time. he's been able to come back together no matter what, so i just think he's in hiding.

same thing could go with inque......
