Didn't Commonwealth buy the Flip cartoons as well? Of course the Commonwealth library ended up in Blackhawk Films' hands, which became part of Republic Pictures.

I also noticed that Flip actually had a MGM pseudo logo and copyright on one of the opening titles. Maybe AOL-TW may actually own these cartoons via the MGM library.

Or did Iwerks or Pat A. Powers control them?

Argus~

Convoluted story... In brief Pat Powers owned the Flips (and Willie Whoppers & color toons) outright originally. They (Flips and Whoppers) were actually COPYRIGHTED though by the "MGM Distributing Corporation". Which was a subsidiary of the regular Loews owned MGM, and it released the work of notable indie producers. Thus the cartoons really did originally open with Leo roaring his silly head off. It also does make them qualify as MGM cartoons. The films today are in hands other than either Warners or Viacom/Paramount/Republic/Blackhawk... (Namely, Film Preservation Associates, who win the award for 'MOST POMPOUS NAME');););)

Now Warners could BUY them (hint, hint)!!!
