Cowboy Bebop was such a great success, have there been any plans for a 2nd tv season or a oav series or anything? I know a movie came out, but are there any tv or oav plans of more cowboy bebop?

in one word no.

in two words, hell no. im not sure why people would want any more of this series. if you seriously want more of this show then go pick up the manga which is also good.

EDIT: By special requst, spoiler about Spike being dead added.

I'm not sure Zero Angel meant it as "Bebop sucks! No more Bebop!" In essence, Bebop has been so perfectly molded into what it was meant to be. If they did more of the series, they would make it trite. You can't continue Bebop since Spike is dead, and doing episodes retroactively isn't exactly the best idea, since people like to see characters PROgress not REgress.

If there is another season, it should be different characters and plots all-together. Perhaps even centering around something other than bounty hunting...

There are many reasons against making more, and so few for it. Especially from people who love the series.

There were rumors that a spinoff series featuring different characters was in development, but they were debunked.

We might get one or two more movies, but that will probably be it.

Another series would basically just be another attempt to cash in. They could make it look like he survived, but then the ending to the actual series wouldn't be nearly as moving.

They could make a oav, same characters, different story. Most animes have oavs.

If you are so interested in seeing more stories involving the characters in Bebop then read the manga. it has all the same characters with a slightly different telling.

well, they really never said that there wont be any more new bebop. if i recall correctly, shinichiro watanabe said that there might be more movies made if fan base is still strong (and bebop still isnt dead, the movie dvd when it came out in japan debuted straight to number 1 and Spike Spiegel and Faye Valentine had been running on Newtype's Favorite characters lists for months))

Well, maybe a series around a grown-up, somewhat less gawky and more stable Ed...I can see her visiting Spike's (and maybe Jet's--though maybe he's still alive but retired from bounty hunting) grave...Faye would still be kicking, a little greyer, and maybe in a new line of work. And of course, her faithful canine companion Ein--the third or fourth, anyway--would be with her.

Sure, anything is possible...

It likely wouldn't have the same name, but would be in the same universe. Most likely none of the original show characters would return, except in cameos (any fan knows of a few characters who COULDN'T return anyway =P).

Also, it would be a third season, as eps 1-13 were season one, and 14-26 were season two, but that's just nitpicking =)

That sounds like something along the lines of "Angel Links", the sequel series to Outlaw Star.
BTW, that might be a good show for ASA

I don't want to offend here, but when the whole Bebop creative said hell no, then there is no chance of ever seeing a sequel.

how on gods green earth could they. if you're really a fan of the series you would appreciate how it ended, and just be happy that there is going to be a movie, and there is already manga and a dvd set.

If they were were to make any new Cowboy Bebop episodes they would have to make a prequel for obvious reasons. They would beable to do it if they wanted to. Outlawstar is also making a prequel.

Watanabe and co. are respectable anime producers. They're not gonna go and milk the thing and ruin it like what happened with Tenchi Muyo. No more is needed, and no more will come.

And don't forget, a lot of Bebop is about the characters developing and us slowly learning about their pasts. They accomplished everything they needed to in that respect. Any attempt to make episodes that take place before the finale would lack that charm, and thus wouldn't be up to caliber with the stuff we have.

Galaxia

I agree - I think it's fine just the way it was. If it continued on to another series, it would just become redundant and, dare I say it, boring. It would lose a lot of its charm. Just the 26 sessions and the movie strike my ears just fine. :)

I'm sorry, you remember wrong. This is what Shinichiro Watanabe said (I kept the link for just such an occasion):

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/article.php?id=1069

"In an interview Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe expressed his belief that they should quit while they are ahead, 'It's more in keeping with the Bebop spirit.'

"Furthermore, in another interview, published in Asahi Shinbun (Japanese), with Watanabe and music director Sugano, it was stated that 'Watanabe stated that he was not willing to make a new series, because the taste of BeBop lies in the sadness (heart-rending sorrow) that things have to come to an end (Owatte shimau koto no setsunasa). He is afraid that if he continues making new series, the work would be dull. So, he thinks it rather 'kakkoii' (cool) to end the title here.'"

Quite frankly, I find Watanabe's attitude refreshing.

Actually, that's not really true either. If you're talking about the original series broadcast on Japanese television, then it goes something like this -

These episodes make up the "television series", which was only 13 episodes long (actually, it was 12 episodes plus a recap):

Stray Dog Strut (2), Honky Tonk Women (3), Heavy Metal Queen (7), Waltz For Venus (8), Jamming With Edward (9), Ganymede Elegy (10), Toys in the Attic (11), Jupiter Jazz Part 1 (12), Jupiter Jazz Part 2 (13), Bohemian Rhapshody (14), My Funny Valentine (15), Speak Like A Child (18), and Mish Mash Blues/Session XX (the recap episode).

These episodes make up the "OVA" - in other words, the episodes that were banned from Japanese network television, and made for video only (but later shown on the Japanese cable station, WOWOW):

Asteroid Blues (1), Gateway Shuffle (4), Ballad of Fallen Angels (5), Sympathy for the Devil (6), Black Dog Seranade (16), Mushroom Samba (17), Wild Horses (19), Pierot Le Fou (20), Boogie Woogie Feng Shui (21), Cowboy Funk (22), Brain Scratch (23), Hard Luck Women (24), The Real Folk Blues Part 1 (25), The Real Folk Blues Part 2 (26)

So if you want to be really technical about it, episodes 2,3,7-15, 18 and XX are "season 1" and episodes 1,4-6, 16, 17, 20-26 are "season 2." ^_~

Yes, there will be a sequel series. Faye and Jet get married, and they have a kid (named "Pike") and join a space carnival. It turns out that Ed is the owner of the carnival, and the new show features them going around solving space mysteries. Oh yeah, and Ein talks a little now, him being super-dog and all. Ein's catchphrase seems to be "Einy-Niny Roo!" And Ed develops a strange habit of saying "Zoinks!" all the time.

Along the way, they meet up with a really cool nerdy girl with a turtleneck, and she joins up with the Bebop crew. Her catchprase is "Jeepers."

I hear the WB is going to help fund it.

Heheh yah yah I knew someone would go and look all that up -- I knew it had been chopped up like that, but that it was basically two seasons. Anyway, the real question is "Will a third season be made" and I think whether you feel the creators have said no to another season or whether the show itself just doesn't need another season, any way you cut it we're not likely to get another "Cowboy Bebop" series. At least, that is, not one that's just a simple continuation of the existing storyline.

And then comes the live-action movie, which grosses $56 million on the opening weekend and insures that the series will NEVER FARKING DIE.

Sheamon and Morgana are definitely right- it's refreshing not to see a successful anime get beat into the ground. That being said, while I wouldn't want to see anymore CB centering around Ed, Spike, Faye, Jet, or Ein, I wouldn't mind seeing a spinoff series. The Cowboy Bebop "Universe" is such an interesting and compelling place that I'd love to see some unrelated stories, or perhaps more background on characters like VT.

However, I gotta admit, a show which showed Spike during his syndicate days, tracing his affair with Julia and his escape would be kind of interesting.

Well, if you ask me, we pretty much got that whole story through flashbacks and whatnot during the main series. I mean, sure it would be interesting to see it all be animated out, but I'm not sure that would work as a whole new series... maybe a quick OVA or something, but still, it's not like there would be any suprises to it.

Pay more attention when the characters speak. What they say does have meaning, you know. Especially Spike's dialogue in the final episode and the lyrics of the end credits. Then hopefully you'll get what most of us accepted the first time we watched the show.
