Since Walter Lantz week continues on the TTTP, what's your favorite Andy Cartoons?
Here is mine:

Crazy House-Where Andy and his pop are trapped in a funhouse during a rainy night, and Andy drives his father nuts through out the entire night, while making his blood pressure go way up, and to the point when he counts ten, he skips the numbers and is half his color and the rest purple.

Apple Andy-Andy is tempted to eat an apple, and his good self and his bad self are telling what decision to make. Thus leaving Andy to eat almost the entire apple tree.

The Poet And The Peasant - A great cartoon, where Andy is the conductor of a barnyard concert, and where things to turn out so wrong.

The Wacky Weed - This is one very bizzare Andy Panda cartoon, when he gets a sexy looking female flower and the evil flower, plants himself right next to her and starts choking her like crazy, while Andy trys to destory the nasty flower.

Fish Fry - Simply my all time favorite Andy Panda cartoon, Andy buys this cute little fish and the hungry cat decides that he want's to have the fish for lunch. One of the funniest scenes in this picture, is when the fish ask the cat if he is okay, then the fish pulls out the huge set of false teeth, but the camera points to the straight into the sky and we see the cat flying straight into the air holding his finger after the fish bit him..What a cartoon classic.

My picks:

"Under the Spreading Blacksmith Shop" (1942) - An absolutely classic Lantz cartoon, even though Andy barely appears in it. The cartoon belongs almost entirely to his father who dresses as "Charley Horse" to prove that Andy's too young to shoe horses. Eventually all hell breaks loose when he swallows a magnet and is pursued by an anvil and hot horse shoes.

"Crow Crazy" (1945) - Again Andy only appears as a minor character. The real stars seem to be the looney crow who makes it through the entire cartoon without even a scratch and Andy's dumb dog, Milo, who trusts an instruction book before trusting his own eyes.

"Mousie Come Home" (1946) - Do you sense a trend? Yes, Andy doesn't appear much in this one either. He and his dog, Milo (from the above listed cartoon), move house to get away from a pesky rodent. With no one left to torment, the rodent considers suicide but changes his mind when he discovers their new address and heads straight for their new domicile.

"Scrappy Birthday" (1949) - Okay, Andy does have a major role in this one. He presents candy and flowers to his girl friend, Miranda, but she wants something fancier... a fur coat. With help from a tracking hound, he pursues a fox who has no intention of being caught.

My picks are:

"The Poet and the Peasant"
"Fish Fry"
"Scrappy's Birthday"
"Apple Andy"
"Nutty Pine Cabin"

Since the thread was brought up, does anyone else notice that Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (comic book form) and Andy Panda (comic book form) make cameos in "The Woody Woodpecker Polka". Look for them at the beginning when Wally is taking the dancer's admission dollar to the dance.

Well, I'll attempt to select my favourite Andy Panda cartoons:

1. Meatless Tuesday : I think this is one of the best Andy cartoons going. The tension during the axe-throwing scene is probably one of the best uses of dramatic staging I've ever seen in a classic cartoon.

2. Apple Andy : This is by far my favourite Andy cartoon. The song is great, the supporting characters are good and the storyline is simple and enjoyable. This is a great example of how Andy's character should have always been....

3. Mousie Come Home : Any cartoon that deals mostly with a character trying to commit suicide always gets my vote, only because this type of cartoon is becoming fewer and more far between. Plus it was said that this is a good cartoon because Andy has such a small role in it.... Hmmmmm- could be?

4. Scrappy Birthday : The grandaddy of beautiful Andy Panda animation- he's at his most like Mickey Mouse in this one (but there's no coincidence.... Dick Lundy directed it). If it weren't so visually satisfying, this cartoon would be lower on my list- but that's enough to bring it to a more appreciated level.

5. 100 Pygmies and Andy Panda : Andy is still at his infancy stage in this one, where he wanders away from his mother in the jungle and comes across a camp of hostile Pygmies. He's still cute enough at this point to actually like, because the distinct threat of becoming another "Sniffles" was really evident- thank goodness his character went through a few more hands which prevented that!!

6. Crow Crazy : Another Milo cartoon featuring Andy Panda as a supporting character. Great jokes and unique presentation of an overused idea.... Don Williams got the best of this cartoon, his animation is everywhere in it... and it looks fantastic!!

7. The Poet And The Peasant : Another nice musical cartoon from Lantz with Andy as the leader. It could have been any character really, but Andy just seems to have the silent demeanor that makes the music used more effective. Plus, the classical tune is one of my favourites as well.

8. The Painter And The Pointer : This cartoon always scares me- Andy is painting a picture of Milo who keeps squirming for one reason or another. To keep him still he ties him to the trigger of a shotgun mounted aiming stright at his head (he really doesn't seem to mind that if the dog moves he will be blown to bits.... boy, that painting has some importance!!) To make matters worse, two spiders land on Milo with intentions on eating him alive.... and, Andy has gone in the house for a drink. The scary part lies in the tense moments of the spiders trying to slowly strangle the dog as their prey in their ever-growing network of webs, which incidently, they're trying to set off the gun to kill Milo too (I guess it will save them the trouble of having to do it over time as spiders do).... nail-biting to the very end!!!

9. Knock Knock : Duh- it's obvious why this one is on the list, not just for it's historical value.... it's funny!! My favourite scene is the shot of the racehorse lineup at the beginning ("Opium.... this one is a dope")

10. Musical Moments From Chopin : Okay, so I love classical piano music, too, and since there are i) more than one mini etude played in this one, ii) both Woody and Andy together in it, and iii) an underlying story with NO dialogue, it gets my vote. Another cartoon I could (and probably have) watched 1,000,000 times.

About the cameo appearances in "Woody Woodpecker Polka".... Yep, that's right, and "Charlie Chicken" is in line also.....
