Inspired by Joker's post in the neverending post, I wanted to bring the topic to the AniGen board. Who here remembers their dreams? And what are some of the most unusual ones you have had?

Here are a couple of mine:

I drove behind this one building and there was this older guy there and some older woman standing there and they were having car problems and I talked to them for a while. It was raining, and the path behind me became flooded. I got in my car and drove ahead, around the building and found the building was a strip mall but a crappy strip mall. So I went in side, actually, drove inside the mall....and I was looking at all the run down stores in there. I came to one nice furniture store, called Carpenter's Furniture or something like that, and it was supposed to be this carpenter who made furniture and the owner of the store was a Christian (I got all of this in just a moment in the dream) and I drove around the center display in the front of this store and drove out, but it was very posh and nice. Then I come to this office in the mall, I don't know what they were selling but I was looking for an exit. By this time I am no longer driving a car, but apparently I am driving on a couch. I don't know, it was a dream, and I have to pick up my couch to get past all these desks. The lady receptionist there told me where the exit door was, as all I wanted was out of this mall...and I walk to the exit and I see all this weight lifting equipment and she tells me the owner works out and enters competitions. I open the door and I see this dog that looks like a dog I used to have, a young and healthy dog and the sun is shining behind her and she looks so nice. I asked the lady if this dog would bite me, and she says yes, the dog is very mean. The dog is biting at me and she calls for the owner, he comes and hits the dog but it does nothing, and he puches the dog hard and knocks her out. Then I look at the dog and it looks like it has mange. Then the next thing I know in this dream, I am watching a news story about this guy and he's being busted for running a secret puppy mill illegally.

And another one...

I had a dream in which I was travelling thru snow, driving at first on a highway, then coming to a city where I was walking down a street. Though on my journey it was getting increasingly snowy and by the time I reached this city the snow made it hard to see and it was deep, it was a happy scene. I was running thru the snow like a little boy, playing and having a good time, and other people were like wise having fun in the snow.

I got to one block down town where there was a canopy of sorts hanging over a shop and the snow hadn't been falling as hard there and the sidewalk was clean. At this clearing on the sidewalk I met several versions of Annie, both of stage and cartoon. There were several Annies and each one looked different. Each one represented a different period in time. They were all crossing the street to get back to their time period. I decided to follow them back across the street. Across the street was a city block where each building represented a different period of time, starting with the most modern and ending up at the end of the block in a 30's style building in black and white. The Annies all crossed the street singing and having a good time.

Across the street I found a building representing the 60's, to which no Annie was going, so I went into the building. It was like walking into a store but they weren't selling anything. As soon as I walked thru the door, I felt that I had travelled thru time. The door closed behind me and the first thing I noticed was a 60's style TV with an 60's telelvision program on, but I didn't know what the show was. I looked to the front of the store/building where the window looked out on the street and I saw a teacher reading a book to a young child, almost a baby. She had a pile of books beside her.

Enchanted by this pile of books from the 60's, I went and picked one out from the pile. It was a book about a man who was trying to decide between a life of religion or a life of reading. I began to read it standing up, leaning up against the door. The teacher tried to explain to me that somebody was coming. I didn't know who this person was but I got the distinct feeling he was against the books for some reason. She closed the door and had me sit down on the floor as to not be seen by this man who regurally makes visits to this building. She takes out a dollar and puts it under the door, then two tens and a five, and slides it under the door. I understand this money to be some sort of a bribe to make the man go away, only it doesn't work. He takes the money but forces himself in anyway.

Once inside, the man and two other guys dressed in suits, hassel the woman about her books. They take the books and the man has his suits begin to destroy them. While this is going on, I am reading my book down there in the corner, hoping they don't see me. It is a good book, and I am nearing chapter three. In chapter three, the story is from the view point of the main character and he begins to write about his religious life. In this portion of the book, it is set out to look and read like scripture, so when the man looks down at me he thinks I am reading the Bible and is content to leave me alone.

Soon, though, upon a second look, the man realizes that it's not a Bible. The names of the "books" aren't the same and none of the passages are familar, as this man has memorized the Bible word for word. When I finally look at him, he is standing there without a shirt and a perfect physique, very muscel bound, and he has blonde hair. He takes the book from my hand and I stand up, angry. This book is the one thing from this time period that I felt was mine, that I felt was given to me, and that I feel I could take back with me to prove that I was in the 60's. The man gives the books to his suits to destroy and says that morality isn't up for man to decide. I say something to the effect that he isn't any more qualified to decide what is moral or not and he challenges me to hit him in the chest. I strike him but his chest is hard as rock. He and his suits laugh, and he says that's why he is qualified to decide. I assert that he is qualified for nothing and kick him in the head. Shortly after that, I woke up.

Will have to think back to some of my own unusual dreams.

In the meantime, for anyone who likes odd dreams I would highly recommend the novel "The Unconsoled" by [first name escapes me] Ishiguro. It's an amazing work, of episodes that are shot thru and linked to each other thru dream logic. Example: The protagonist leaves a small cafe in the middle of a large city, travels many miles into the country, and eventually has lunch in a small inn in the middle of nowhere. When he wants to return he suddenly "remembers" that this inn shares the same building with the cafe, and feeling no surprise walks thru a door to find himself back in the small cafe in the middle of town.

Very sad, very creepy, very memorable. (Also, very long, so be warned.)

well ive had some really wired dreams the past couple of days, all having to do with camp and or superheroes.

some of them are kinda short

im playing basket ball out side with a counciler i met at camp, all of the sudden im bitten by a radio active spider. after seeing joey(the counciler) whips out a spiderman costume just like in the movie, two pool cues and a big ball of cut pieces of yarn in all different colors. he tells me these are my wepons to strike down evil with(i cant climb wall or shoot webs or do anything else the normal spider man would do). so i put on the costume and run around the nieghbor hood whith pool cues in hand scaring people. joey chases me down and explains this is not my purpose, it is to fight evil. later my dad gets home and we have to go to the hospital for no real reason. i pack my ball of colored yarn and my spider man costume thinking there might be some evil at the hospital. but i wont need my pool cues. my dad doesnt know where the hospital is. he looks in the phone book. we walk out the back door and the dream ends.

and yet another one. this ones really short
this girl from camp is making me go to a school dance a couple towns over. i decide to wear a coat and tie, shorts and i cant decied weather i want my green hi tops or my cowboy boot moccasins. i decide to wear the green hi tops. when we get there, there is a bunch of people from my school and i dont know what they are doing at the wrong school. at half court of the gym the floor dips down very steeply until it hits the wall. so the intere dance i slide up and down the gym floor.

thats all the ones ive had recently other than one on the never ending post

Two of my strangest dreams have actually turned up in the openings of fiction pieces I've been sending to publishers. In one, I saw the rotten corpse of Josef Stalin reanimated, breaking into the cabin of a family of Russian serfs hiding in a bedroom and stealing...their Pepsi. In another, I was seated at the computer when I heard a noise behind me, and when I looked, the ceiling fan was spinning faster and faster and about to break loose and come flying at me--so I got scared, turned off the computer, and left the room. (Scary thing--a few months later said fan did break free and fall to the ground, smashing into pieces.)

They say dreams of flying indicate either repressed carnal desire or intense creativity, and I have those frequently....

One from my childhood I still remember very clearly:

I was in the forest preserves with my family - having some sort of picnic. I wandered off on my own, and followed some lonely overgrown path. I started to get lost, but down the path I saw this archway made of old logs - sort of looked like the entrance to an Old West ranch - and it felt safe - it looked like an inviting place. I walked toward it, and just as I got to the archway, the incredible Hulk jumped down from the overhanging trees and stood in my path. He smiled at me and wagged his finger back and forth, like he warnging me not to go in. Then he jumped off into the trees again, and that's the last thing I remember.

Do any of you have dreams where you can either hear music you've never heard before, taset things or smell things you've never tasted or smelled before (or since?)

YES!!! Just last night, I dreamt that I was at a royal ball. I was all dressed up in a baby blue ball gown embroidered (sp?) with white lace but when the musicians started to play they played this beautiful waltz that I have never heard before. It was so melodic and pleasant to the ear. When I was coming out of the dream state and into reality (waking up basically) I was still huming the unusual melodic tune :)

I also dream frequently of spreading angelique wings and jumping off buildings to fly. I love that soaring through the air feeling.

Eating in my dreams is weird for me because I could smell and taste the delicious food. I am usualy eating chocolate or cookies. I tend to see also strangers of different ethnicities. They are usualy friendly but sometime they are just plain mean and chase me to kill me.

I usually look up the little details in my dream books or whatever stood out more during my dreams. I beleive sometimes that dreams can reveals things about us that we hide deep in our subconscience. Or dreams tend to reveal little messages to us that can be helpfull. I like interpreting dreams, it's better than reading the coffee cup. ;)

I had this dream where my family went to an amusement Park. We where all enjoying it, and we even made fun of my brother for going into a bathroom when he thought it led to a thrill ride, or arcade or something. Anyway we come out and its like 4 pm. So we're there and all of a sudden this guy comes running into the park. The gates begin to close lock down style and I'm like "What's going on." suddenly he brandishes a firearm. He holds it out and aims it at this elderly couple. He then see's me and points it directly at my feet. He fires and misses, then in an instant he falls over dead. Then out comes a police officer with a firearm. They carry him away and as I go to thank the officer, he just shruggs it off like he doesn't really care that much.

The next one was really weird. This freind of mine/ former classmate is visiting from Colorodo and we greet eachother with big hugs and hand shakes and everrything. So we go walking through my school with our arms around one anothers shoulders talking about stuff. We then sit down and continue to talk, then I put my arm around her and she socks me angrily. Like I've done something to her. Funny thing is when I told her about it over the phone a couple days later she laughed and said she would never do that. Oh well.

So how would you interpret either Stalin or a wobbly ceiling fan, I wonder? I'm almost scared to ask, truthfully....

Hey Calhoon! I tried to interpret your first dream you described according to my book. well here goes...

"As a general rule dogs in a dream are a good omen and symbolize friends. But this dream varies according to the action and the details of the dog". For instance you said that:

The dog is biting at me

Since it bit and attacked you, you are being warned to look out for actual deceit or harmfull trickery from someone that you have placed your trust in. And if you heard it barked fiercely, you are being warned of possible trouble up ahead (the kind of trouble I do not know, it depends...to my knowledge it can be financial or petty little troubles that will pass). Also , you said that the dog was:

a young and healthy dog and the sun is shining behind her and she looks so nice. I asked the lady if this dog would bite me, and she says yes, the dog is very mean

Well Calhoon, i know from experience that this symbolizes that looks can be deceiving! Beware of your friends especially the ones you least expect to stab you in the back.

Now you mentionned that you were driving...well a dream about driving is not good unless someone else was doing the driving for you. You will have a stroke of money luck if YOU were in the passenger seat and not the driver. If you were driving (which is your case) this dream is a warning to be very cautious in money matters. Manage your money well for the next few weeks.

I hope that helpes you calhoon, Dog and Driving were the two main things in your dream so I hoped i did my job well.
:)

Well, I posted two of them above. Can you interpret those? I don't know where I would begin looking in a dream book to find interpretations for time streets, singing Annies, driving on a couch, strip malls, etc.

Well Dr. Belch...I will try my best:)
This is what i found out so far.

Seeing a fan in a dream pertains to love affairs. You are in some sort of danger of losing out on love because of fickle behavior. Now, if you turned on the ceiling fan...it forecasts unexpected recognition for past efforts or favors...but since the ceiling fan failed in your dream...this means that your dream is telling you that you suspect you are wasting your energy: so redirect and reasses your ambitions and a change or direction is needed. Will do you good.

Now for Stalin in your dream...geez that one is tough but I think i can do this. Well, Stalin is a famous person so...if you saw a famous person (Stalin in your case) in your dream it suggests that you are trying to acheive and grasp something beyond your reach but this famous person changes everything...because you will get help from an unexpexted source. So your dream is positive in the outcome.

Oh, I should have read a little further down before posting my first reply. Oh, well. That's one down, two to go!

I often have musical dreams, and some have resulted in me waking up and writing songs. Well, not songs per se, as I cannot read or write music, but I will write down the lyrics to certain songs. The music in my dreams is always more beautiful and more complex than the music I hear in my waking hours. And I've had some pretty powerful music dreams.

Ever have a dream where it feels like you're watching a movie? I mean, it's just this one long mega dream that just does not end and you can wake up to the alarm clock in the morning, hit the snooze button and go back to sleep, and that dream continues right were it left off? I might have to post one of those or two on here when I can find where I wrote them down...if I still have them.

Okay, here's one I had recently:

I'm going out on a date with a beautiful woman. She's not based on anything I've seen in real life, but she seems remarkably graceful. The two of us are canoeing down a river, but somehow the canoe flips and we get dunked. I manage to get us to shore, but she's taken in a lot of water and needs CPR. I do it... unfortunately, I had just been eating Pay Days (why? I NEVER eat Pay Days), and she's deathly allergic to peanuts. So we rush to the emergency room... but there has been some sort of minor disaster, and the place is packed. So the two of us are sitting there, waiting to be seen and waiting for the peanuts to kick in and kill her. Then I wake up.

--I hate to step on KyleWayne's toes (or paws, as the case may be), but Hatter's dream interests me. In the spirit of Freud, I'll offer my take on it and then compare it to hers:
I don't know how much AM radio you listen to, but I listen to at least 3 hours a day, and I've been hearing a lot about peanut allergies and how they're making trouble on airplanes and in school cafeterias. One can't even enjoy a sandwich without fear that a tiny dollop of peanut butter on a tabletop will cause someone's throat to swell, or peanut dust will get sucked into the ventilation shafts....
The woman represents a loved one, and her drowning indicates some sort of trouble ahead. You want to help but are hampered by percieved inability or weakness, and all efforts only exacerbate the situation--as represented by the peanut consumption and deadly allergy. Why a Payday? That's just how the mind works, playing on whatever data it gathers and stores for later (maybe a commerical seen shortly before bedtime, like with me and Pepsi around the SW re-release.). It could have just as well been a corned beef sandwich or a glass of milk. The packed hospital seems to be further complications, like a bill or a medical emergency coming when one is strapped for cash.

Another thing I've noticed--I can't read in dreams. The text makes no sense. There was the explanation given in "Perchance to Dream", but is that true? None of my psych profs seem to agree whether or not one part of the brain controls dreams and another logical tasks, so that problem may be more the power of suggestion than science.
I also note that all my dreams seem to happen in my old neighborhood, though I haven't lived there in eight years. That place was such a hellhole it made an indelible impression on me. So basically I know on some level that what I'm seeing isn't real.
There's nothing worse than not being able to remember a dream clearly, though. I had a trippy one this morning and all I remember was that everything was underwater, it was very peaceful, and it took a sick turn when this girl took a hammer and smashed the private parts of several marble statues. I'm not sure I even want to know what that means....

Calhoun07

I can read in dreams, and quite often. Usually, it is something I have written that I am reading in the dream. In one dream, I wrote and drew this complex comic book that read one way when you read it thru like any other comic book, but became a totally different story when you read all the words backwards.

Kylewayne
08-05-2001, 06:18 PM
I found all the keys words to your second dream that stood out the most: travel/journey, weather/snow, scenery/landscape, streets/highway, strangers, reading and book(s). Well after looking all this up and putting it all together...the outcome is positive :)

Now let's begin firt with the travel/journey interpretation:
Changes are predicted in a dream of a journey, but whether for better or worse depends on the details which should be carefully considered. If it was a pleasant journey then it indicates favorable changes, the reverse if it was an unpleasing one. However , the meaning is modified by such things as the weather, the scenery and mode of transportation.

If the vehicule in your dream was merely a means of transportation, it has, in itself, no particular significance. this applies very well to you Calhoon.

On to the weather/snow: seeing snow in a dream is generally a good omen. Deep snow or a snowstorm signifies hard work but with an unexpected big success at the end. And since the scenery of the approaching city struck you as being beautiful and pleasing, this signifies bright future prospects.

The other main feature that stood out in your dream is STREET :

Strange streets signify profitable new ventures or associations. (if they were) curving or crooked streets (then the dream) indicates travel and surprises.

Now onto the people in your dream. I do not know about the multiple Annies in your dream but maybe you must of been watching too much of Annie's X-Mas special cartoon. :p (kiddind!)
As for the other people you did not know them (man, thugs, woman/teacher)....Since they all were strangers then I could tell you that seeing strangers in a dream forcasts happy reunions with valued friends. :)

Book(s): You can anticipate slow but steady progress and a calm pleasant life. And since you were reading a book it is also a favorable meaning signifying progress.

So all in all Calhoon the outcome is good. All main feautures in your dream have said the same thing but in a different way.

This is KyleWayne saying Good Night and Sweet Dreams :D

Were you actually able to make out the words? I have had dreams where I am "reading," in the sense that I glance at a book or newspaper and glean the meaning contained therein, but when I try to make out the individual words and form them into complete sentences, the effort causes me to wake up.

If this were literature and not dream analysis (though the two are obviously related) I would suggest that the Payday represents your career, or something else related to your financial wherewithal. You're headed for trouble with this loved one, and when it hits you find that your concentration on monetary issues (literally, "pay days") doesn't help, but actually exacerbates the problems.

Pay Days as a literary metaphor? That would be a hoot, but I think my brain just picked it because it has peanuts in it.

Admittedly, that's an easy dream to interpret... a lingering anxiety over what to do in relationships.

Speaking of dreams, anyone remember the episode of the Tick wherein he attempts to interpret Arthur's classic Freudian dream? That was a hoot.

Your dream is a very interesting one and since Dr.Belch and Maxie Zeus gave you their interpretation...well, now it's my turn according to my books.

Everyone has interpreted your dream with the beautiful woman as losing out on love. Just because you see a pretty face does not always means so. The main features of your dream and witch are considered important for this dream are the words: River, canoe, allergy and woman. The word chocolate might be one of the main words, it could explain the pay-day chocolate bar that falls into the chocolate category in my book.

#1: Canoe/river: As for all water dreams the meaning is modified by the condition of the water. I need to know if the water was clear , murky, calm or if it was rough waters. If you were paddling a canoe and fell into the river, it indicates approaching domestic difficulties. However, to dream of swimming towards the shore prophesises security but only through diligent effort.

#2: Allergy: A dreamer might think that this feature in a dream would be something negative but in reality it is not. This is actually a good omen however you dreamed it. In your case Hatter, since the allergy wasn't your own and was someone else's then this signifies that your immediate plans will floorish. And as for the chocolate bar in your dream. Well, I know that any dream featuring chocolate (drinks, bar, candy, or anything of this flavor) predicts modest contentment and good health.

#3: The only way I can interpret the beautifull woman is on the fact that see became ill will eating the pay-day. Seeing others being ill and not yoursel means that you can expect to be upset by a broken promise. So the beautiful woman in your dream is a warning of deceit amongst your immediate circle of aquantances(sp?) or friends.

There done! Now, you have three interpretations of your dream :) I hope this was accurate for you :D

I once had a dream that me and my friends were reading comic books and everytime I saw Venom in a Spiderman comic, he would appear and start trying to kill me. While my friends just looked at me and started laughing. Then when I went into my house, Godzilla would appear outside and start attacking the city.

Oh yeah, I also had a dream where I was siting in my 9th grade class with Raptors learning how effecively take down my cat.

weird, huh?

Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for your thoughts on it, all of you. Though Kylewayne, I have to say that, since you asked, the water was clear, though moving at a steady clip. It wasn't rough... it was a lot like the Buffalo River, which I really enjoy canoeing down. The pace of the river was just right, we just hit an unexpected rock. I was able to get her to shore all right... it took a little effort, but it wasn't a Herculean effort.

I love to dream! I havn't had a nightmare in 5 years. Only when I'm sick and having those neverending dreams that are a pain cuz they get so freaking boring!!!

Anyhow... I very often have musical dreams. I once dreamt that I was among aliens and they played this wonderful music! I have never heard such great music b'fore!

Most of the time I dream about superheroes and fictive characters. I always see my dreams as a movie. I lean back and enjoy the show :)

When I was a kid I used to sleep in my moms room. I was reading a spiderman comic and during the day I had made this graph of how the x-men universe was put together.
Then in the middle of the night my mom wakes up and stares at me with this starnge look in her eyes

she says: "I got the answer!!"

me : "what???"

Her: " I got the answer to the secret of the universe!...Dr Octopus!!

And then she point at a vase

her: "Pusing!!! Puuusing!!!"

suddenly she stops talking and says : " oh no..I forgot" ..and she closes her eyes and sleeps.

So if you ever wondered about the secret of the universe it has something to do with Dr Octopus, a vase and the word PUSING...

Go figure...

Those are some quite interesting dream experiences there, Fish! My most beautiful musical dreams were of angels singing to me, singing songs so beautiful and complex and you just wanted to stay there forever. It's a shame that more people can't hear this music in their dreams.

One dream I had when I was a kid was that there was this thick pea green fog that surrounded the mobile home I was living in at the time, and the smell of that fog was so horrible and repugnant, and it was a smell I could not forget for years to come. I never smelled it before or since, and have no idea what could cause me to smell something so bad and unusual in a dream.

I once had a dream were I saw an angel. He was all in white and spoke to me in a soflty pleasing voice. That was the first time I had ever seen an angel in my dream and I think I haven't seen him since in any other dream :(

My dreams are usually like movies. It' s like I could see myself from head to toe ,move and all...it's if I was an invisible spectator.
Sometimes, I am not me it's like I am seeing and talking from somebody else body...now that is weird. When I wake up and go back to sleep...it's like my dream is being continued to were I left it or I will have little mini series happening all at once.

The only thing I hate seeing in my dreams is cats or a black cat...Evrytime I have a dream about cat(s), I will either here bad sadening news that will ruin my whole day. Or an illness will take place from my immediate family or far away relatives.

It was probably over 5 years ago, I forgot exactly when...

Here is a brief description:
I was having trouble breathing. I was sent to the hospital to have a test done. I had some machine attached to me. I could walk around, but I was unable to talk or hear. I could still write, and with surprisingly good handwriting. I asked questions in my notes. Then came the worst part. A test result came in saying whether I will stay alive or I will die. I was given a note saying "You will die." I assumed I would die in about five minutes when the machine was to be taken off of me. Then, I woke up!

I value this dream for its vaguely allegorical qualities (which I have not altered or "improved"; this is the real thing), but am curious what kylewayne can make of it.

First, you will note, I am not a participant in the dream, only an eyewitness. Despite some odd or frightening things that occurred, I myself was never the least bit frightened during it. And because it had the quality of a story being played out for me, in what follows I deliberately try to heighten those elements, to communicate the cinematic effect it had:

The tour bus was old, rusted and worn in many spots and without distinguishing markings, except for the obvious shape of the body, which identified it as a converted school bus. Nor were the passengers a distinguishable lot, except for one woman who seemed more elegant than the others (in some undefinable way), and hard, dirty and mean-looking man (a migrant farmworker, it seemed). The road it traversed descended from the mountains in harrowing arcs, passing from dessicated pines to low scrub, and thence to barren mounds as it approached the desert plain below. It was a clear, late summer afternoon, hot and bright.

Then the road came to a fork. One lane passed on along the side of a the valley, winding like a ribbon onto the plain, but the other sprang across the valley over an impossible bridge. ("Impossible," I know, is an undescriptive word. I know of no other way to describe it, except to say that although the eye registered its presence, the mind rebelled at its concept.) Over this bridge the bus passed.

At once a wind sprang up,. It was only a breeze as yet, and yet all were suddenly seized with the fear that they had been cast onto an untamable tempest. The passengers would glance uneasily at a sky that suddenly carried a hint of brown dust, and perhaps more.

This road apparently passed back up into the mountains for some distance before descending by another route into the valley below, and higher up, by a stand of broken trees they found the wreck. In a ditch beside the road, almost obscured by tall grasses, was an armored car of some kind. It was clearly an ancient derelict, and all the passengers dismounted to gaze at it in wonder. (But no one stopped to examine the rags of clothes and dust nearby.) The migrant, before anyone could stop him, crept into the cab and thence into the back of the truck, and there he jimmied open the rear doors. Inside they found several sacks which, upon opening, proved to contain great quantities of currency and coin. It seemed strange, of course, that such a fortune should have been abandoned at such a spot, but all congratulated themselves on their find, and agreed to divide up the money equally.

Re-embarking, they continued to follow the road higher until they came to a large and seemingly abandoned house. Apparently, the road they were on had once been a highway of some importance, for they recognized this building as a hotel of some kind. But the paint had long since peeled away, and the porch sagged, and the windows of the upper room gaped like empty eyesockets. On closer inspection, they saw it was not wholly deserted, for a single figure stood in the doorway, beckoning to him.

Struggling against a stiff breeze, they took their luggage (and sacks of loot) to the hotel, whose inhabitant was a tall and angular, with skin rubbed by the wind into a raw red color. He seemed to be a minister or preacher of some kind, for he used biblical cadences in admonishing them to come out of the wind. But his appearance was fearsome, and it was soon believed that they had fallen into the company of a madman, for he seemed incapable of any conversation but barked exhortations, and would abruptly stalk about without a word or gesture.

The inside of the hotel was equally cheerless, and a noxious smell, as of sulphur, lingered about the place. But none were eager to leave, for the wind continued to grow stronger, and the sky blacker. A storm seemed to be brewing, but one composed mostly of apocalyptic anticipation. A fantastical surmise, but one might suspect that such a storm could forever build and forever strengthen, without actually breaking and releasing its energy. It promised only to get worse, and simultaneously promised never to get better.

Some of the men, to pass the time, improvised a game of cards, while the ladies (including the elegant one) found the kitchen. In certain drawers they were old and dusty vegetables, and sacks of white rice, and so they decided to make a soup. It was also decided to hide the money they had discovered (all distrusted the minister) in a cupboard with these supplies. Though the water had a bad stench, the women had soon prepared a poor but edible soup of vegetables and rice. But upon passing it out, a horrible transformation came over the soup; it had the taste and texture of raw blood.

A real fear began to settle on the company at this point, and another soup was prepared. At every stage of the preparation it was checked and rechecked, and at every stage the results were consistent with a thin meal. Every stage, again, except the last, when upon its being ladled into bowls it transmuted into a product of the charnel house.

All at once the migrant worker declared that they had to leave the hotel; the house was diseased and had to be quitted. The determination only grew when the women went to retrieve the money, and found that although the sacks from the armored car remained, they now contained only rice and dusty vegetables. However often they plunged their hands into them, they never found a single bill or coin.

As they were about to leave, a noise from another room reminded them of their host, and some of the men went to find him and settle accounts. The door to this room was closed, and without knocking they opened it.

Behind them, the main part of the hotel was crimson with the lurid sunset, and the wind mindlessly tormented the landscape. But this room was illuminated (if such a word can describe the ghostly light) by a cold, dead moon set against a black and starless void, and shining drearily onto a chill landscape of absolute stillness. The room itself was bare, save for a single bed. From this bed arose the only other source of light, a greenish glow that flickered from a headless and limbless torso, through the cavities of which crawled the unending toils of a monstrous python.

At once, the door slammed back in their faces, and when it opened again the room (though containing the same bed) was lit by the same hideous red light, and occupied only by their host, the minister. When they explained their intention to quit the hotel he was aghast. "The wind! The wind!" he could only say. "This is your only refuge against the coming of the night!" But when they persisted he abruptly acquiesced, and requested only that they take with them certain documents for his dioscese in the valley below. They agreed.

Once quitting the hotel the bus passed quickly down into the plain as the wind howled ever stronger. Above, the undersides of vast cloudbanks were torn and tossed by the wind into vast streamers and cloudy stalactites. The setting sun, a sinister red, lent a glow more subterranean than celestial.

Vision soon became impossible in the murk, and the road itself vanished beneath wandering sand dunes. The passengers were obliged to disembark, and were soon lost in a senseless chaos of blowing sand, and of flying snakes and insects.

Your dream IS very interesting but from you have described the dream is bad news...I will give you my interpretation soon.....I have to go get my accurate ancient book of dreams from a friends house.......so next week I will post it......too many symbolic and scary features.......

Kylewayne

Sorry for the delay, this is the second time I tried to write the interpretation of your dream...Somehow I got booted off the boards after having written a long interpretation....AHHHHHH!!!! I am too lazy to restart but here goes one more time  ...

In all, your dream is telling you that you are approaching a time in your life were you will have to make important decisions. You will go through a period of difficulties and obstacles to overcome.

The tour bus was old, rusted and worn in many spots and without distinguishing markings, except for the obvious shape of the body, which identified it as a converted school bus.

Dull, dirty, old and rusted objects ( such as the and the building in your dream) forcasts obstacles and difficulties.

Road: twisting and descending roads represent difficulties to be overcome, and the meaning will depend on the outcome of your dream action in the relation to the road. A Road Fork is a straightforward sign that you will soon be faced with a decision which will be important to your future. Choose wisely and look at the ups and downs to your decision.

Difficulties are forcast ahead if you saw a displeasing landscape. A desert in a dream predicts contentement and good success in your efforts; BUT if the weather was bad or if there was a sandstorm, you can expect some immediate difficulties due to hidden opposition, but the outcome will be better than you expect. :)

Bridge: The meaning of this dream depends on its aspect. As a general guide, if it was daylight and the structure was in goo condition and you crossed it without difficulty, it signifies a satisfactory change and prosperity. But in reverse, if the structure was damaged in any way, you are being warned against making any hasty decisions for the time being.

Wind/storms: Stong winds= You will have to fight some tough and probably tricky competition to get what you want. Don't give up! Storms are obstacle dreams and portend a season of discontent from which you will only recover whenb you realize that you are the master of you own FATE. You will need a lot of courage and determination to overcome those stressfull days ahead.

Ruins/accident: a contempory ruin in a dream is a forcast of unhappy news concerning a close friend of relatives. If ancient like for example the ancient ruins of Greece , Egypt, any ancient archeoligal site...is a lucky omen of improving conditions.

this building as a hotel of some kind. But the paint had long since peeled away, and the porch sagged, and the windows of the upper room gaped like empty eyesockets. On closer inspection, they saw it was not wholly deserted,

Building(s) in a dream represent your life achievement; therefore if the structure was imposing, well kept, beauriful or impressive, you can expect eventual luxury. If it was old and dilapidated inside and out, you' better start saving for rainy days ahead.

vegetables: If the vegetables lookek sickly, rotten or spoiled in any way, you must prepare for a period of disapointment but you can rest asure that it will soon pass.

Soup turning into blood:

Be prepared for for a period of hard work against hostile forces against you if you saw blood in your dream.

Snakes: According to the ancient oracles of Greece. Seeing a snake(s) in a dream is a warning of various troubles and obstacles or even treachery.

Sun: this symbolic feature has many interpretation but according to your dream it predicts a minor or major change and struggles from which you will emerge VICTORIOUS :)

The coins (money) that you saw in you dream portend to your financial status. You financial success will be accompanied by a disapointment in its efforts. (I hope you don't have any stocks)

Well Maxie, I tried my best. All the symbolic features of your dream say the same message over and over again. Just hang on when the rainy days arrive because there is always sunshine in the end. :)

difficulty breathing in a dream is a WARNING of illness. The book of dream suggests a visit to your doctor. But this dream happened 5 years ago and besides they ARE ONLY dreams :D I never take dreams too seriously. I only interpret dreams for fun.:)

As a Freudian I think dreams have meanings/carry warnings. One of my most memorable dreams was in college, and to this day I think it was trying to tell me something. I only wish I had it sooner and didn't realize its significance after the fact.
I saw myself in an elevator, the sort we had in the dorms--but not. It was three times the size it should be and garishly decorated with pink and purple satin and silk and little throw pillows--rather like the interior of Barbara Eden's bottle on I Dream of Jeannie. While I was in the elevator it began to move--not up and down but from left to right, then around and around, performing all sorts of mad impossible gyrations. I recall being terrified as I was being flipped around like a bingo ball that the cable would break...and I awoke panicked. Shortly thereafter I recieved a phone call from my boss to come into the office that afternoon...which as it turned out meant a pink slip (long story).
In short I realized later that the elevator was my life, the size and guady decor was the success I'd built for myself, way too grand and flashy; and the movement of the car was my empire being shaken and crumbling around me by unseen hands.
So in short, if that vision was a warning, why didn't I have it sooner? I could have resigned with dignity and spared myself a lot of embarassment and grief! Anyone else get that feeling from a nightmare?

My obvious Freudian dream hit just before I defended my dissertation.

The department is on the second floor of a very old building, and in the dream I started to climb the stairs to the second floor. But the stairs continued up, farther and farther, as though the dept. were retreating from me. Finally I came to the top, but the stairs stopped short of the landing--about 3 feet away and 5 feet below. So to get to the dept. I would have had to jump up and over that distance, across a chasm many dozens of feet deep, a plainly uninviting prospect.

At that point I said to myself, "This has got to be a dream" and instantly woke up.

Dreams are usually hide little messages that are unconscious is trying to tell us. The important thing is that whatever yyou do in the daytime that has impacted you or if you are feeling stressed happy, anxious, etc... these feelings will usually affect your dreams. Sometimes though, dreams can predict your day ...the dreamer only has to pay attention to the details in his dreams and the outcome of them. For instance, whenever I see a black cat or any cat in my dreams , I know that disapointments and petty annoyances will hapen during my day...or worse.

Good night!
and Sweet dreams :)

Dream interpretation can be taken so many different ways. With all of the psychological theories out there, the same dream can have several different interpretations.
We know what kind of people we are (while we are conscious). Trying to figure out what is going on in our minds during sleep can be freaky. Some wonder why a tree just can't be a tree in a dream, and not a symbol for other kinds of, ah, wood.
If I fall asleep with the tv on and dream about what was on, does it mean that was in my head all the time? Does it mean that the outside stimuli (the tv) influenced my dream in some way? Or could it mean that my mind is using the stimuli from the tv as symbols for something else? Interesting stuff...

I don't take the dream books too seriously because my mind randomly jumbles items in them. I think if I play a certain video game in my dream, the genre, the characters, and the company that made it are all symbols. Books don't even have an explanation for video games.

I think if we obsess (sp?) over something it doesn't exactly mean we will have dreams about it. I would have cartoon dreams every night if that were the case, but what from I remember I have never had cartoons in my dreams.

I think that dreams explore a topic that we get a sudden extreme interest in and not a gradual interest.

Do we dream in color?

Calhoun07
11-09-2001, 09:57 AM
I have been able to have lucid dreams, but not too often. But there have been times I've been able to realize I am dreaming without instantly waking up and then begin to manipulate that dream world.

As for cartoon dreams, I have had them, but the only animation dreams I really recall right now are dreams of music I've had where I would see wild animation set to the music.

And I dream in color for sure. In fact, I don't think I've ever dreamt anything in black and white.

-Standing at the Statue Of Liberty and looking out over the Hudson to see a deserted plain. Apparently, the rest of New York City was destroyed in this dream.

-Dropping dead under an apple tree, looking like a withered version of Kevin Spacey.

-Having sex with actress Jamie Lee Curtis.

-Eating a hot dog and transforming into a woman (who looks like the chick on the cover of "Rio" by Duran Duran). I then rode a beautiful white horse through a forest and an art museum.

-Flying to the top of a bending pole and then sliding back down (Phallic symbolism, maybe?)

-Attending the funeral of gospel/soul singer Al Green, but the funeral was at my last high school

Any interpretations? Anyone, anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Here's a weird dream I had: I was eating something (I forgot what) and I just couldn't chew it. My teeth starting developing holes in them, and they became extremely loose, not unlike loose baby teeth when they are about to fall out. But in this case, all my teeth became loose and filled with holes. The more I ate, the looser they got...

And my teeth are very clean and healthy in reality, and I'm not a big eater, either.

Freud would say that dream of hair/tooth loss indicate fear of male sexual inadequacy or impotence. Most dreams contain both overt and subtle meanings, most of them sexual in nature. If you buy into that sort of thing....;)

Actually, Caps' hot dog dream interests me even more than L. L. Jojo's bad tooth dream. May be the Jungian concept of the animus archeotype (male half) being overpowered by the anima (female), with the hot dog as a phallic surrogate and catalyst/stimulus. Now whether that is seen with joy or apprehension I can't say....:D

Calhoun07

I would think something else falling off in a dream would equal sexual inadequacy. I always felt that when I had that dream it was because I wasn't going to the dentist and flossing. And I wasn't. I know, call me a literalist! My mother has horrible problems with her teeth, so upon witnessing what I have, I guess it was a reactionary thing.

Says Captain Caps: It's seen with interest. I've been having trouble with women for years now. I'm looking for a good-looking woman with whom I can have a committed relationship, but most of them don't want that, and a few of them don't look that good. There is a woman who I said I loved, but she doesn't know if she'll be ready for a relationship anytime soon. I'm somewhat overpowered by a quest for a loving relationship with a woman, so Belch's interpretation makes sense. If any single ladies are lurking on the boards, please e-mail me. I'm getting desperate.

You know, I've always been pretty confident about my sexuality, though I guess you never know...

What I do know was how scared I was at having loss my ability to control my food. I do like to be in control of my own destiny, and I do hate it when things are out of my hands. So in a sense, losing control and ability is one thing, and that could be related to sexual inadequacy, but in that sense, it could be relationship-oriented as well, as I do like to have a sense of control over where the relationship is going.

Do not fear the Lady of interpretation is here ;)
Well one must, of course corrrolate the action and other details of the dream, but as a general guide:

-loose teeth are a warning of untrustsworthy friends; decayed teeth mean health problems; if they fell out or you spit them out, it is a sign of a season of financial reverses. meaning if your finace is going well it will not during the next few day and vice versa.

My mom told me that if your top canine teeth fallout, something bad is going to happen to your mother, and if your bottom canine teeth fallout, something bad is going to happen to your father.....in other words, if that happens in your dream you're supposed to run to the dentist and get them stuffed back in.

Ok.. Unusual dreams are my fortee! (well.. having them.. NOT interpreting them...)

but here's one for all of you who want to interpret it...

I'm sitting in my room when my older brother comes in. He's a vampire. He Tries to bite me and I jump out my window. Next thing I kow I'm at my grandparents house. I run inside and they tell me to go out back, they'll tell my brother I was never here. So my brother comes in and they tell him I'm out back. I hear this and run around to the front yard and he's standing there and then I turn around in run in the other direction back inside the house. My brother is right behind me, I go out front and run across the street into an apartment building. On every staircase is my brother. He starts advacning toward me and then...

I wake up. I've had this dream at least once a week since I was like... 5. (and NO that is NOT an exageration.)

Here is another one...

I'm sitting outside my house when my second grade teacher comes up and starts telling me that I'm the most powerful witch. She doesn't like it so she decides to kill me. She starts throwing little sparky things at me. Suddenly I'm on top of the roof. I run to the other side and jump off then keep running suddenly she's all around me. There are like ten of her all saying "Burn witch die!" Simultaneously. And then I wake up.

AAAAND.. One more! (this one has SEVERAL holes in it...)

I'm a vampire, but I don't want to be a vampire. I'm with my family and they don't know. (Coincidentally my family is the family from Happy Days). Then there's a party and I meet another me, but She's (or mayeb that should be I'm?) not a vampire. She(I) decides to help me. She says something about getting into a little jeweled container as a bat. SO I do. and She(I) starts running from my house and trying to get to the desert (which actually takes like two seconds) But it takes her(me) all day. I (vampire me) break out of the container and bite her neck blah blah blah...But she(me) is ammune somehow. She says something about being a vampeel (OK.. I KNOW I spelled that wrong) and being half vampire and that her father was bill clinton (heh...) and her mother was the daughter of dracula. ANd then my mother woke me up...

Wow, unusual dreams... :)

I love to interpret dreams, and I keep my own dream dictionary, although i haven't written in it lately cuz it's private and living in the dorms don't provide all that much privacy, but i had a creepy one lately.

I went to sleep earlier than my roommate that night cuz i had to wake up at 5:30 am the next day. when i went to sleep she was still up, but i was so tired i passed out even with the lights on. i think i was half-conscious or something but i remember having these old people (ghosts) that asked me "where are the keys???" and i had NO idea what keys they were talking about so instead of explaining to me, they proceeded to strangle me. =\ i coughed and that's how i woke up, gasping for breath. it was dark and my roommate was about to go to bed.

it doesn't seem all that creepy now, but wierd things happen in our room so that dream didn't make it all better. and even worse, that weekend i was at a friend's house sitting next to the window. we were talking about ghosts and the blair witch project when i heard this hiss from the window (like air coming out of a tire except really loud). NO ONE ELSE HEARD IT so i dunno if they were lying or they really didn't hear it. i'm gonna believe they're just playing with me, just to keep my sanity :p

Here's mine. This is from when I was like four.

I go to a theme park called Seasame Park. It's like 10 PM. We go and we see a ticket taker dressed as Big Bird. I turn around, and who starts coming? BIG BIRD! I then look up and see a sign. It has Big Bird pulling a man.

Here's one when I was like eight.

I am home being beaten up by video game character "Boogerman". I yell to my grandmother. THE END.

Strange stuff eh?

Hmm, weird dreams... I've had 2 old ones that I remember vaguely.

The first was several years ago I think, and I was fighting people who were actually aliens in disguise. I was in front of my house and I beat the throttle out of one alien and got my friends to safety. Next thing I remember is that the setting moved to the roof of my school and there were a lot of people there. I was trying to convince them they should get out of there. This is where I've started forgetting, but in the end I think I found out that the aliens were good guys.

Another dream was from a few years back and I dreamt that people were at my funeral. Then I walked in, but nobody could see me, I looked in the coffin and there wasn't anybody there. Actually, I think there was more to this, but I've forgotten some of it.

Here's a weird dream I had today--

I was travelling with my family and then suddenly everything became so blindingly bright. I couldn't cover my eyes from it--there were white spots all over the place and no matter where I ran to, I couldn't get the brightness out.

When I woke up, it turned out that I had slept all the way to noon and the sun was shining on my face while I was dreaming. Hence the white spots in my eyes, as the rays were so bright my eyelids couldn't cover all it.

Okay well lieiing alseep one night I saw a giant gate with the destinct words of "Parkensons(spell check this some one) Desiese" in the clouds then I saw fruit(grapes, bananas, apples, strawberries, ect.) floating around and sorta revolving around the gates.

Yet another dream to figure out, but thankfully, a short one.

In this dream, I'm on a street that leads out of the subdivision where I live. Along the right side is a huge, deep ditch that runs at least a third of the length of the road, and is probably about 5 or 6 feet deep. (It's that way in real life as well as in this dream.)

In any case, I'm looking down into this ditch, and there is a '78 Corvette lying on its side. It's black on the top, tan on the bottom. (I don't know anyone who owns a car like this, the only place I've seen it is in a picture.) I think I see someone inside, but can't really tell. Just as I'm about to inch my way down there to get a better look, the dream ends. Or at least, I can't remember any more after that.

Maybe it doesn't mean a thing, who knows...
