What do you think of this game? Im playing it right now and so far, Im loving it, this is my first Final Fantasy game. I will admit though, it is VERY slow at the beginning. I now have just met Auron after beating the Goers at the Blitzball match. What are your thoughts on the game?

Having played FFIII and V-IX, I have to say that FFX is probably the weakest in the series. It's starts off slow in gameplay with way too many cut scenes. And the way the summons are in this game, it makes a lot of the battles way too easy. It does get harder though after you get the airship. But once you get the hidden Aeons, the game becomes a pushover.
Also, I really don't like the airship in this game. I like to be able to control the airship, but in thsi one, you just push a button and BOOM, you're where you have to go.
And since there's no world map, there is no chance for you to actually go around an explore all the areas.

I would like to echo these complaints. It just felt too linear, and I didn't like having the characters hold your hand and tell you what strategy you should use in the beginning. If you missed something important item-wise, you couldn't go back to it since you'd be sucked into a cutscene and forced along the way. Also, I'm one of those people who's stubborn and would rather achieve something by dying ten times & finding out the right strategy on the eleventh time than have the game say, "Hey, we need a projectile attack right here!"
Also, the dubbing needed work. A lot of times, the mouth motions were way off compared to the dialogue. I can't fault the actors, though--the man who voiced Titus gave a justifiable reason for his whinyness and kindly explained that the "Walla" credit on Futurama he had meant "all-purpose background & incidental voices"; Quinton Flynn had several cool incidental roles; and Tara Strong was GREAT as Rikku, as was John DiMaggio as Wakka. The big weakness was really the lip synch, which was distractingly silly.
I did like the grid, though. If they decide to make XII not exclusively online (like XI), they should retain the grid while returning (1)the world map & nonlinear quality and (2)the let's-see-if-you-can-figure-it-out strategy instead of a prolonged tutorial.

I'm in the middle of the game right now, right at the part where...
the party crashes Yuna's wedding and she jumps off the balcony into Valefor the aeon
My impressions at this, granted relatively early, point in the game are that I am having as much fun playing X as I had playing many of the previous (exceptions being VI and maybe VII). To me this is less the classic RPG and more like a playable movie, which is alright to me for an installment or two.
Two other things...
1) Can you go back to areas you visited at all? Because I'd like to learn more of the Al Bhed language, but I didn't really spend a lot of time looking for translations, figuring I would do that later along with blitzball and chocobo breeding(if it's in the game).
2) Is FFXI exclusively online? Man that stinks if it is. Sure, it would be nice to build a party and take them out amongst others, but the strong story element and CPU are the reasons I have bought every installment released in the US (and played roms of those that weren't)

yeah, you can go anywhere once you get the airship (except the Al Bhed Home, it gets blown up)
as for the language thing, make sure you get the primers at the al bhed Home before you leave, if you dont--youre screwed.
so far, XI looks to be online exclusive, which is UTTER CRAP. and you have to PAY FOR IT! im not against MMORPGs and all, but this is stupid. paying $50 for a game and then spending $15 more every month just so you can play it is just not right. its going to be like EverQuest. and you have to buy the HardDrive!
oh, FYI, you dont have a party in XI, its a solo adventure, although im sure you can just travel around with friends.
