I just picked up the DVD yesterday and so far, so good! :D
I've only seen the first episode so far but it was really funny!
Does anybody know how many episodes there are in total (or how many DVDs will be out after this one)?
The "pop-up video" type feature is cool too. I had no idea about a lot of that stuff.
On a side note, I want the avatars back. :( I guess I'll have to wait a few days but it does give me time to work on a new one. :)

I think it is 26 episodes...
Yeah 26 episodes sounds right, should be 8 volumes, I think.

It's basically an anime which parodies/skewers anime cliches. Most episodes don't really have a plot, just a vague skeleton to set up a main situation, therefore setting up vicious gags and satirical observations about the anime world.
At any rate, it's about a really, really childish teenage girl who works for an organization (basically with only 3 members or so) that tries to take over Japan. So every episode they come up with new ideas to rule Japan and run into all sorts of hijinx while doing so. The plots, as you might guess, are pretty bizarre, this being a parody and all. Excel is sent to do things such as killing the creator of Excel Saga, and other "breaking the fourth wall" situations.
Another thing is that Excel dies quite frequently in the show, in a manner similar to Kenny from South Park.
I guess that's about as well I can explain such a crazy show.

I'm not what you would consider an "anime expert" by any means, but I caught most of the jokes in it. Some of the jokes that make fun of Japanese culture flew over my head (like the whole "paying taxes to recieve social services" thing mentioned in episode five), or I associated with a parody with the wrong anime (I thought that Excel getting hit by the car in the first was a parody of (Yu Yu Hakusho") but, then again, that's what the "pop-up Menchi" feature is there for. The only episode that might be really confusing (thus far - I've only seen the first five) if you didn't know what they were parodying would be episode four. To truly understand that joke, you'd have to sit through one of those god-awful dating/texted-based games. I just wish that all of those games had a "put it in" option like it did in the show; it would them a lot more interesting :).

It's 26 episodes but it's going to be in 6 discs (ADV's current standard for 26 episode shows)
I've heard that as it goes on it just gets funnier and funnier XD
Like the anime version of crack, to the point where its just completely bonkers :)

I downloaded the first episode through Kazaa. It was subtitled and the audio track was about two minutes off of the video track... so distracting that I finally just muted it...
But what I saw was hilarious! I've decided not to watch anymore crappy downloads; I'm just going to go buy the DVD! :)

It shows everything about the show so its spoiler filled. Well, kind of.
But I think this one of the best shows out there. Every fan of anime or pardies should watch it.

Funniest straight comedy anime I've ever seen. I mean, Ranma 1/2 was funny, but this anime had my friends and I consistantly in tears.
Great stuff and fully worth the dough! I look forward to seeing the added popup video stuff!

Sigh, I'd hoped to cut back on my anime habit, but this one sounds too good to miss! Back to the DVD store for me! :D
