Once again, this comes from The Digital Bits....

"Although neither studio will officially confirm this, we've been told by a number of distributor and retail sources today that DreamWorks will debut their 2-disc Shrek on a Friday (surprise!) - November 2nd. Jurassic Park III will follow on December 11th. And while Warner released Steven Spielberg's A.I. theatrically, we're now told that DreamWorks/Universal will distribute the DVD and VHS versions, sometime in the December or January 2002 time frame."

What get's me is that yesterday they reported that Warner had announced that A.I. would be out December 18th, but now with this revelation that Dreamworks/Universal will do the DVD, there appears to be no street date set yet. That means no SNAPPER CASE now!!! :) I guess news changes day by day.

Shrek on a Friday??? It's been done before with some titles. Don't ask me which ones, I just remember it's been done before. Why studios do it is beyond me. While I was disapointed in JP3, I know I'll be getting the DVD. It's only smart to bring it out in time for Christmas. This title though I won't be anxious for like I will be when Planet of the Apes will be announced. :)

No Snapper Case? *snaps fingers* DARN! Shrek on a Friday? WHy? I think that's...pretty weird. Although it is a sorta smart movie. People can pick it up on the way to the new Friday flick. Battlefeild: Earth did this and the DVD still sunk.

In the three years I've worked at the video store, I've only seen two titles come out on Friday. I forget the names, but they were MASSIVE titles, and it was a holiday weekend when they came out, so it was in anticipation for a busier weekend. While they MIGHT do this with Shrek, I won't believe the rumor until it's actually confirmed by Dreamworks.
