Missing episodes of the Batman Cartoon

Aren't there some "missing" episodes in the cartoon, between the original and the newer one? I never saw when Robin left to become Nightwing, or when Barbara joined up with Bruce. It was like one second there's Batman and Robin (Dick Grayson) and the next Batman and Batgirl. What happened in between? Were the episodes made or were they canceled? I've been wondering for a while.

Old Wounds is the episode you want. It comes later in the new series and explains the time lapse. It's definitely a fan favorite.

I'd also suggest you pick up the BATMAN ADVENTURES: THE LOST YEARS trade paperback. It sums up everything that happened between BTAS and TNBA in a five-issue miniseries. It's not fabulous or anything, but it does tell how everything happened. Both SINS OF THE FATHER and OLD WOUNDS are directly taken from this mini.
