The 3rd Summers brother...

Yello.

I used to read X-Men some time back, but quit during the Age of Apocalypse stuff, because I didn't want to spend $46.75 on 14 issues of the Deluxe Gatefold Chromium Holofoil editions for 'Ultra X-Men Spetacular Sigma' each week.

Anyway... I was re-watching some of my Xmen tapes, of the FoxKids series and got around to the episode titled "Orphan's End". Seeing as to how this explain's Scott and Alex's history, I got to thinking about hearing there was a mysterious 3rd Summers brother who emmerged a few years back. Dows anyone know who it is, or what became of it... or if my info is wrong?

The third Summers brother thing has never been resolved but it has long been speculated that it is in fact the character known as X-Treme. This character has long blonde hair and made a couple of appearances in X-Force in the early 90's or so. I'll try and dig up some more info for ya on him.

Yes his name is Adam but the theory is this 'Adam X, aka X-Treme, might be the son of Shi’Ar Emperor D’Ken forcing himself on Katherine Anne Summers. After the Summers couple were captured as earth specimen by the Shi’Ar they were separated. Chris was sent to the slave pens, but he later escaped and found Kate in D’Ken’s palace, forced to serve as his pleasure maid. Before they could talk, D’Ken murdered Kate to punish Chris. It is unknown how much time passed between the couple getting separated and Kate’s death, so she could have been given birth in the meantime. [Uncanny X-Men #156]'

This theory would suggest that Adam is actually part Shi'Ar and not from the mojo-verse - although he does look a lot like Longshot. Here's the main reason that the storyline has never been completed - 'Fabian Nicieza confirmed online that Adam X was the intended additional brother, but he was removed from the titles before he could fully finish that story and so it’s left dangling. Current Marvel policy forbids the usage of Adam X, as his codename X-Treme might cause confusion with the title of the monthly X-Treme X-Men book.'

I'm pretty sure that the creative team figured that it was Gambit, but it never actually was revealed in any issue so far.

Fabian Nicieza (the guy that actually started the whole third Summers brother arc) actually intended for Adam X (X-Treme) to be the third brohter. The fact that he was born to a human woman and a Kree leader also supports this because Scott and Alex's mother was the only human woman in the area at the time.

The idea that Gambit could be the third brother is a theory but talking from a fan perspective I would rather not have him as the third brother. X-Treme was a cool character and I wish that one of the X-Books would finally announce that he is the third brother and build on the character (altho with the current teams I don't see this happening). Someone needs to change his name so that he can make a comeback and finally be revealed as the long lost third Summers brother - reunited with Cyclops and Havok.
