View Full Version : Freddie Prinze Jr. as Captain America? Why?

O.k, I'm not here to say Freddie Prinze Jr. is a bad actor, or 'he sucks', or he seems totally oblivious to the world around him in every movie he makes, or he's a skinny little rich boy who girls like, and thus the only reason why he gets any roles in any movie, or that maybe he's done a few good jobs in his life, but otherwise he's a complete duntz...I'm not here to say that.... :D

BUT, apparently Freddie Prinze Jr. mentioned that he was in talks to work on the Captain America movie  , which has been in some form of Limbo about as long as the Spider-Man movie was :( . While nothing is comfirmed, the very idea of Freddie Prinze Jr. as ol' Cap's upsets me.

Why?

What do you mean, WHY? Thats a stupid question! :p

Honestly, I'm not going to criticise him personally, anymore, BUT, he's just not right for the part. I honestly can only see Cap's being played by a more muscular, and much older actor. Someone who isn't just a soldier who ends up getting genetically tested on for one reason or another. I'd like to see someone who appears as an older, more experienced soldier, who gets chosen because of his experience. Something accurate. Someone WITH MUSCLE MASS. haha...sorry, but Freddie Prinze really looks just...twiggy  . He doesn't look the part, or act the part. I guess thats what I'm trying to say....

Yes, I'm happy that we're finally seeing our comic heroes being adapted into big screen flicks. But, I'd really like to see appropriet actors being chosen to play our heroes, not just these 'hot young actors'.
I really do love Ben Affleck's work, but I still dont feel he's really the best choice for DareDevil. Sure, he is a fan on DareDevil, and he is a good actor. I'm happy they got an actual fan of the comic for the role, because I know he's at least try to play it correctly. But, he simply doesn't have the look or feel of our good friend Matt Murdock.
Vin Dessel, he's a great actor. I have so far enjoyed all the movies he's in. But, even if it was just a rumor, he IS NOT the right person for The Flash. I like Vin Dessel a lot, and I don't know if I'm spelling his name right, but the fact is, he's simply not right for The Flash. But, I dunno if that was just a rumor, or what?

From the moment I heard the announcement, I was extremely happy with the choice of Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker. :D He looks the part, he does make for a great geek, and he's an excelent actor. He was totally perfect for the role. And it was only a coincidence that he was one of these 'hot new young actors'. :p

I'd like to see the right man chosen for the job, as opposed to someone who's simply a media-frenzy kid. Honestly...Brad Pitt was a better suggestion for Captain America. At least he can pull off the look & personality. ;)

Hopefully Prince will only play Steve Rogers pre-Cap. Rogers was a skinny, sickly little twig-boy before the chemical treatments beefed him up....

Come on don't you want to see Freddy play the hero of America? It will be fun almost like Scooby Doo.

Freddie Prinze Jr. is not Captian America! Casting him as ol' Cap is A big mistake. Heck, Brad Pitt looks like Cap than Freddie. (Just shave off that goatie, okay?) For the love of God I hope this is just A rumor. Here's A word of advice to any of you supposed "Hot" young actors out there. If you plan to jump on the comicbook bandwagon, make sure you look the part of whoever you want to play. Don't just do it because of Spider-Man's success, and not look the part. That'll make you A whore, and we don't want you to become A whore. It's bad enough we had an awful "Captian America" (http://www.stomptokyo.com/movies/c/captain-america.html) movie A few years back (Not to mention an ever worse TV movie from the late 70's) Cap dosen't need another bad film to add to his movie legacy.

I doubt he'll get the part. Movie studios aren't stupid when it comes to $$$. The main demographic of comic book movies would be the teen to 20 some year old guy. I'm pretty sure that they know Freddy Prinze is universally hated within that demographic.

Of course, those Hollywood folks have a totally weird handle on reality.

Isn't Cap in his mid-30s? Not really the best image for a guy who plays high schoolers in all his movies.

He's over 60. But he started out a teenager.

I do agree completely, no offense to Freddie: please stay away from my movies. But I'm in slight disagreement with Jack. I didn't think Tobey would do very well at all as Spiderman. I liked him a lot, but I thought he was took goofy looking and had hair that was too dark. But he made it work. Michael Keaton didn't look the part, but he made Batman work (for the most part). Jack Nicholson was a biiit too filled out to be the Joker, but he made it work (and oh boy did he).

Of course, I'm talking about great actors there. Now if only Freddie was an actor....lol, I'm kidding. There's something Sara Michelle Gellar sees in him. So there's gotta be something. :) But I don't think he's right for the part of Marvel's most patriotic and outstanding hero.

If he's dead set on playing a superhero, he should be Captain America. His presence will ruin any superhero movie, so I'd rather have him ruin that than something like "The Fantasic Four" or "Iron Man".

I can just see it now...Freddie Prinze Jr. as...Mr. Fantastic!! Wooo!!! Oh wait, even better, he can play Tony Stark, a 30-40 year old billionair business man, with a heart condition! That sounds SO right up his alley. :D :p ;)

And thank you, I do believe those are the words I was trying to say, but simply couldn't think up. ;)

I'm sure this is a Hollywood gag. What is it with this guy? Is he really going out with SMG or is he seeing the entire staff for every company planning on doing a movie about superheroes?

I'm guessing his agency feel he is "superhero material" and put him forward for every film that comes up, then moots his name about town as a possible contender for Spider-man, Batman: Year One, Captain America, Daredevil (I recall at some stage he was rumoured), Batman Beyond, Scooby Doo...

Fortunately he has only got one of these roles so far and it looks as if that film will bomb.. hopefully that will clear him out of the running!

I can't see Freddie playing 'ol Steve Rogers - mainly because he doesn't even come close to looking the role nor would he be able to act out the role effectively.

It looks like Freddie has gotten desperate enough now that he's created his own comic that he says he could get published anywhere but he needs an artist. Instead of persuing this he's decided to opt it for development and make it a movie and then do the comic. The story revolves around a group of four friends that were all born on the same day, March 8th (which just happens to be Freddie's b-day). One day the world goes nuts and these kids find out that they are the template for what humanity will look like in the future. After that they team up with a geneticist who is also a Template carrier and he begins to train them in their powers - leading to all types of whacky fun.

I guess that's one way to finally get to play a superhero - create one that looks exactly like you. Although maybe they should cast Tom Welling in the lead role....;)

Prinze is just a comic fan desperate to get any of these roles. In the same article I read about the Cap rumor, he also said he was really disappointed he didn't get to be Spiderman. Don't worry, nothing will come of this. It'll probably turn out the way all of those rumored Nicholas Cage roles did. First he was going to be Superman, then Iron Man, then Ghost Rider...

Cage was going to be Superman. That was no rumor. He was signed. He did screen tests, SFX tests. Burton's SUPERMAN LIVES would have been dark, so Cage might have worked.

It looks like he will be in GHOSTRIDER according to Avi Arad.

What's with Freddie and wanting to play superhero's? He wanted to be Spiderman and a couple of others and now the Cap. I say keep him out of Comic Movies. Its alittle freaky how he wants be play a superhero so bad... He's already in Scooby Doo (Which Im not happy about)...

Freddie wrote a script for the X-Men movie and writing a comic book right now.

It was rumored that Prince was to write a Spider-Man story.
