in my opinion these two issues were the best ones of the whole "our worlds at war" arc (so far). actually, id say wonder woman was better than action, but since they both deal with the death of hippolyta i sort of count them as almost like a joint comic. but, i think they were great. Action really showed superman's confussion, it showed his whole world start to crumble. That was great. the art was superb too. wonder woman also showed great character motivation, and was beautifully paced and very emotional. the art was also REALLY great, which was a surprise to me. it was great, better than action, imo. and the use of panels and the detail and the pacing, wow, it was great. OH, AND THE COVER! i love the cover, i think its one of the best covers i've seen during the whole owaw arc. who else read these issues? what did you think? i'd love to here some other opinions. peace.

Well, I also enjoyed The Wonder Woman issue better than the Action one. Phil Jimenez has come along way in both his writing and his art. He really built the drama in WW 172 and the story really pulls you in. This has to be one of the best issues of the series, the only other issue of the OWAW series that I found had really good writing was the Batman OWAW special which was excelent. Unfortunately they never really build on what Batman finds out outside this issue which is one of the huge problems in this series the lack of continuity between one issue and the next.

I think that if the writers and editors of comic books don't stop killing off characters (like Aquaman) in big cosmic events, they're going to continue to disenfranchise a large part of their target audience, until their circulation dwindles down to the point where the mass media marketing value of the intellectual property is the only reason to publish comic books.

What they are doing isn't working but they just keep on doing it, year after year.

I'm glad DC is whacking off some of the lesser characters. Do we really need GUY GARDENER still around? PLus I think having heroes die in this just shows that DC is serious about this event. Plus AQUAMAN had his run. Time for Tempest to be the new king of the sea.

I respectfully disagree. I think the only reason this is an event at all is because they are killing off characters. Since Secret Wars, Marvel and DC have used the crossover event to temporarily boost sales for the comic book readers who have extra disposable income from summer jobs. What they haven't yet examined is the long-term loss of readers that the deaths, maimings, and costume changes bring about. Need proof? Look at the circulation of an average comic book then, and look at it now. The circulation of some of the top ten sellers now wouldn't have even allowed those titles to be printed 15 years ago.

What I believe needs to happen is an editorial change that establishes solid characters in books that the reader can count on for entertaining stories published on a regular basis. That way, when the crossover does occur, readers will actually care what happens. You're right about Guy Gardner. But here's another thought: If a substantial number of readers cared about what happens to Guy Gardner, he'd have had his own successful book and not have been sacrificed to the crossover to begin with.

I agree that this is a sales booster, and it is working. The NIGHT OWAW tie-in sold 10, 000 more copies than a regular issue of his title. This is a sales booster, but this is also a damn good one. A reason why these are done is becuase sales usually begin to falter and having big events draws some readers back in. Another reason is the overabundance of books. There are just too many! There are 13 BATMAN books. 13! Do we really need all these books? No. Can it be a partial reason for why sales are slipping. YES! Comics are slowly getting their footback again, though.
